If Alden and Smith could be fired after winning an Emmy, then so can Latham. Ultimately, the demos will decide her faith just like it did Alden and Smith's. Although Y&R remains no. 1 in two of the three desired groups, the actual numbers have been declining along with the overall ratings. CBS isn't going ignore the bottom line no matter how many Emmys Latham wins. When Latham's contract up anyway?

I don't think that Latham needs to be fired though. CBS needs to insist that she work with a strong soap consultant to slow down the show's pace, tell stories more consistently, improve the editing, stop dropping stories and having things happen off screen, stop the repetitive storylines, and put a break on her obsession with the Baldwin/Fishers and Brad.

I'm convinced that something has happened behind the scenes at Y&R since February. Before then the show was much tighter and very focused. This was reflected in the ratings for February sweeps. After the reliquary mystery and Carmen's murder was wrapped up, I thought for sure that the show would take off. Instead Y&R has become a hot mess. I don't know what they were thinking with May sweeps. The summer spoilers hint at more of the same to come.

I am thrilled that Passions went up in the ratings. It even got a 1.6 on Thursday. I guess fans were kind of p*ssed that JER faked them out again with Theresa and Ethan which explains the 1.3 on Friday.

On a personal note, DIRECTV wasn't able to find a signal on the side of my apartment complex so I can't get DIRECTV. I'm devastated. I guess September 7th will be goodbye for me too. I hope someone will be able to get episodes online somehow. That will be my only hope.

I disagree about B&B, the show is terrible right not. Nick and Taylor are one of the worst pairings ever, This whole egg drama is stupid, Con adds nothing, Rick and Ashley look like mother and son. The only good thing was the Stephanie/Brooke scenes, and even they are getting old. Where's Thorne, Felicia, Eric, Jackie?? I hope the show continues to fall. Bell thinks he can stay at #2 by riding Y&R coattails in most markets, but I have a feeling that a lot of viewers are getting fed up with the crappy writing and the focusing of Bell's pet of the moment.

Wow, sylph. It looks like there was a precipitous drop in ALL soap ratings around mid-Feb or so, not just Days. B&B seems less affected than the rest for some reason. Anyone have a theory as to why they all dropped at once? A change at Neilsen?

I think around that time Nielsen added in some college campuses to the ratings but I would think that would make the ratings go higher. So my theory as to why the ratings dipped is because the weather got better. When the ratings spiked up it was not only the beginning of February Sweeps but there were also a few days where many people throughout the country were trapped in their homes or opted to work from home rather than go out in the snow or ice storms (and those just happened to be the days of out of the normal higher ratings).

I like the looks of Days' demo numbers. They are building a lead again in 18-34 and have improved alot in 18-49. Slowly, things are getting better.

There was a drop for most soaps after Feb sweeps. Days went down first and the others soon followed. I kept saying that and some thought I was making excuses for Days. Primetime shows began seeing drops in March too. I wonder what the heck happened?

Oh, and Angela, the 5/22 episode was the day Philip/Belle/Shawn buried the hatchet and their boat went down, and Kayla saved Bo from Steve and he had a breakdown on the island. Other then that, I don't remember anything notable happening. The vets were back full force on Thursday. That was the episode I expected the big numbers for but whatever. As long as they went up.

    • I agree. For now. I am sure in a year's time...a new family (or old) will start to appear on the show.
    • There's some irony in Philip being forgiven, because it forces everyone to admit that Victor was wrong to change his will.  Everyone, eventually including Xander, (I presume), seems to think it was wrong for Victor to divide his estate in Xander's favor.  I appreciated Stephanie forgiving Philip, because she's got no skin in that game.  But, Belle's line about Philip missing Xander because he misses Bo did not ring true.  I think Philip would be sad if Bo dies, but I think he's more concerned currently about Xander. I am enjoying this EJ mystery so much that I am hereby taking a vow not to read spoilers.  I am also vowing — for the last time — to stop harping on this, but: the concept of a “sepsis treatment” remains absurd. Hospitals prevent sepsis through vigilant infection control; once sepsis sets in, it causes multiple organ failures. Treatment involves supporting each failing organ individually. The notion that a single medication could magically reverse organ failure is medically laughable. However, I like the contrast of Kim going through cancer, which is incurable in their universe.  Kayla's comment on the health of both of her siblings was both heartbreaking and an interesting twist.  MBE is also totally underrated.  She is carrying the weight of so many stories.   And, I like the use of Kayla as an audience surrogate.  She's arguably the most "real" person in Salem. Kayla isn't psychic, she wasn't SORASed, she's not a billionaire, and she doesn't have a bionic eye.  So, I enjoy that we get her perspective of the nuttiness that surrounds her. However, I don't get what gives her the authority to turn down EJ's offer.  I understand that they need a hospital figurehead to show us scenes of the competition to buy the hospital.  But, unless the entire administration has been let go, the Chief of Staff wouldn't make those choices.
    • But why worry about something that might not happen? Right now, most things revolve around the Duprees. We have no idea if or how long that will continue. For now, it's working.
    • The Duprees not having any staff is a bugbear for me. They've included the background staff at the Country Club but no one at the Dupree home. Even just an extra bringing in a tray of food/drinks or responding to a request from Anita would suffice.
    • Shut up, Dante and Lois.  I actually don't mind this particular soap trope, but in the context of this storyline, it just feels forced and unnecessary. If anything, this Dante/Gio tension needed to begin months ago. Plus, this storyline, in general, isn't doing Lois any favors either.  Emma comforting Gio was really sweet though. It's definitely time for the two of them to have their first kiss. And, Joss playing Secret Agent Barbie will just never work.
    • Note to makeup - Smitty’s eyebrows, bad clamshell look.

    • Okay I can buy that when Brook Lynn was a teen.  Now she knows the child is a boy one would think she'd be slightly suspicious.  Then again, Gio looks nothing like either of them so maybe not lol.
    • I've been behind & just got caught up & the last 3 days were amazing!
