October 16, 200718 yr Member #2 - fantastic, without any flaws from the pilot. Had a "SFU"-feel... #3 - not as good but still great fun and Donald SUtherland is easily carrying the show. The twins are getting slightly less obnoxious but from a Paris Hilton-esque level. My verdict therefore is: this show is a keeper! Yay because I love the score. LOL!
October 18, 200718 yr Member Awesome episode! I loved the Brian/Gustav stuff, and Brian's talk about why he became a minister was very revealing. And then there was Leticia/Tripp- and wow. That was a beautiful scene, and made one heck of a cliffhanger.
October 18, 200718 yr Member So which child do you think is Nick's sibling? I'm going to guess Brian. If it were Karen,Tish would have had to step in, so it can't be her.
October 18, 200718 yr Member My guess is Brian too. Good episode though I missed not seeing any of the Senator but I guess you can't have major events every week
October 18, 200718 yr Member My guess is brian also, but they made it so damn obvious would they do that? It would be a shock if it were the twins. I'm really loving the leticia/Tripp relationship, so far its the only rootable relationship on DSM.
October 18, 200718 yr Member If it's not Brian, I think it's Patrick. Tish seems to be protective of him. Karen was suck a bitch last night. I love her.
October 19, 200718 yr Member I'm convinced it is Patrick. The way Leticia is so protective of his moral integrity, far moreso than with her other children, makes me think he is the product of her "great love". If they are going for realism, though, Billy Baldwin is definitely older than forty.
October 19, 200718 yr Member When they said it was a 40 year old affair I doubt they meant specifcally to the year I was trying to figure out if there was some weird way that Peter Krause's character (man I forget his name) could be Tripp's and one of the Darling's is Dutch's but I gues that'w ay too convulated (And would add even more of an incest angle than we already have with the twins) One complaint--for a series called Dirty Sexy Money that airs at 10pm it's kinda disappointing this and next week's eps are rated TV PG.... October 19, 200718 yr Member Some information about the ratings, with commentary borrowed from TWoP CBS’ veteran CSI: NY remains the show to beat at 10 p.m., with a 9.4/16 in the overnights. Second was ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money (6.1/10), followed by NBC’s Life (5.4/ 9). "Dirty Sexy Money" is obviously not a blockbuster, but I wouldn't say its ratings are bad at all. Over the past 4 weeks the show has averaged well over 9 million viewers and I'm not counting DVR numbers. It's lead-in "Private Practice" pulls in about 12 million. That means the show retains 70-80% of its lead-in. For comparison, last year DSM's predecessor "The Nine" averaged 7.5 million out of "LOST's" 16-18 million (about 45% retention). Later the network averaged 5-6 million in the timeslot while airing newsmagazines out of lackluster "Daybreak." Only the return of "LOST" (a global TV phenomenon) improved ABC's performance in the timeslot to 11-12 million. DSM's task this year is to improve ABC's performance in the timeslot. Although ABC may have expected DSM to do better, it is still fulfilling that task. Also, last year "Brothers & Sisters" (also a Greg Berlanti production) normally retained only about 60% of "Desperate Housewives" audience and it was only a drop in DH numbers come spring that the retention improved. "Brothers & Sisters" is now considered a hit, but mainly because it remained stable despite a strong decline in DH numbers. Then, if you look at this Top-100 chart for season thus far through October 14 (that would include the first 3 episodes) DSM's average numbers were higher than those of "Big Shots." That means the only 10pm shows doing better on ABC than DSM are "Brothers & Sisters" and "Boston Legal" (the latter only slightly better) and they have blockbuster lead-ins in "Desperate Housewives" and "Dancing with the Stars." If DSM aired after one of those shows, I'm sure it would do better. Also, over the past 4 weeks, DSM fell only 15% since the pilot episode. Most new shows drop at least 10-15% immediately in the second week. For comparison, NBC's "The Bionic Woman" which premiered on a par with "Private Practice" and was one of this season's biggest new hits has now cooled down 37% and this week it did worse than DSM. Now, if you look at the above-linked top-100 shows, you'll see that the only new shows on other networks which did better than DSM were "Bionic Woman" on NBC and "Cane" on CBS. This week, both shows did worse than DSM. That means that as of this week DSM has higher ratings than any other non-ABC freshman series. The show also ranks #1 in the timeslot among adults 18-34 and women 18-34 beating "CSI: NY" in those demos. I could go on and on. The conclusion is - DSM is no blockbuster, but its ratings are not as bad as they may seem. Of course, if the show continues to decline and goes below 8 million, I'll get worried.
October 19, 200718 yr Member Some information about the ratings, with commentary borrowed from TWoP Great info Graciecat. Thanks a lot for sharing. That gives me hope that we'll get a full season. Here are the quick numbers form last night's show. "Dirty Sexy Money" (households: 6.4/11, #6, half-hour: -10.45%; adults 18-49: 3.1, #T7, half-hour: -15.15%). If I'm reading that right it did a bit better this week.
October 19, 200718 yr Member I was trying to figure out if there was some weird way that Peter Krause's character (man I forget his name) could be Tripp's and one of the Darling's is Dutch's but I gues that'w ay too convulated (And would add even more of an incest angle than we already have with the twins) I was thinking the same thing. Peter Krause's character is Nick George (I had to look it up because with all the new shows in addition to all the soaps, I don't know anyone's name) and I don't recall him ever mentioning his mother. In this week's episode there was a perfect opportunity for him to do so when they were talking about people who loved him and they only mentioned his father ... mention of Mom has been suspiciously absent and I've been thinking even prior to this week that his mom was Tish. I think this is probably my favorite new show this season.

I think this is probably my favorite new show this season. Yes, but we saw a flashback of her early on, and she abandoned Nick. I don't think he would mention the mother who left him as someone who loved him. I think it would be very, very hard to swing Tish being his mother. I mean, I supose a baby-swap of him and Brian or him and Karen is possible, but I doubt they'll go in that direction.
October 19, 200718 yr Member I love Trip. I really hope he doesn't turn out to be a villain. He does both comedy and the emotional stuff so well.
October 25, 200718 yr Member Another great ep I thought although I wish, like I said about last week's the "Dirty Sexy" over the top and even shocking bit was played up a BIT more (funny I never thought I'd be someone asking for more raunch on tv...) it just seems ot be gettign tamer since the pilot and second ep. but still probably my fave new show Great to read the positive spin in the TWOP article
