Switched to Direct TV

My grandfather told me today our neighbor got Direct TV installed today and he said that Comcast Digital Cable has gotten too expensive. So he wanted me to research Direct TV, and tonight we ordered the Choice Extra package. We get it installed Monday.

I've heard some good things about it, and I also know that there's a chance that bad weather or some disturbance could knock out our reception. If anyone has it here, can you tell me if it's worth it? I am looking forward to watching Chiller TV and Sleuth.

It's worth every penny. I love it! (When I'm home...and not at the dorms....LOL)

It does however seem to go out when the weater gets bad, but only severe weather. It's not like some un-named cable providers who lose reception when one little droplet of rain hits the dish.

Yeah. I get pissed when I'm watching DAYS (on NBC!) and it's stormy out. Make me want to throw things at my TV more than usual But other than that, it rocks.

I have NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS all on my normal TV though. I don't get those channels from DirecTV. I get them from....LOL....well, my TV!

Bree dollink, Direct TV is great. And as said before, it's not as if the picture goes out at will. There has to be a torrential downpour for it to go out.

We get ours installed on Thursday. We got so tired of paying $60 a month, through Comcast, for nothing. I'm really excited. Our neighbors have it and she says that they've had only one service diruption and that was dur to a pretty severe wind storm.

I have DirecTV (since October 2005), pretty happy with it except for the reception of the local NBC station but I don't know who's to blame on that one. The first month was kind of rocky... I don't know if the boxes just had to warm up or what but after that, it's been great. It does go out during really heavy rain though.

We have it (my Mom and I), and like it a lot; there are quite a few stations that Directv has that CableOne Digital doesn't have. The bad thing in our case is we have to get a package from CableOne that has our local channels and a few more for $18 a mo since Directv doesn't have locals available in our area; but I got Directv's retention dept to give us a $1o a mo discount for a year due to this....

I love the Sleuth channel, and love finally being able to get SoapNet; the only time it goes out is during really bad rain storms.....

I still have Comcast. I would like to get DirectTV, but we have several local channels here that I would lose if I went with DirecTV. They only carry a few of the local channels in my area.

The #1 reason why I don't have DirectTV is because of the whole loss of stations when the storms start to come....

Whether it be DirectTV or Time Warner, weather will mess up either one...A rainstorm knocked out one of my stations once and I have Time Warner

I don't even have Comcast Digital cable anymore. I did at one time, but it got to be too damn expensive.

Cable is expensive period...and the more ways they can find to up the price, the more they will; and just like folks who keep saying they will give up smoking due to the increase in the price of cigarrettes, we as cable viewers (me, especially) will not stop paying that increased price just to see the things that we want to see.

I've had DirecTv for about 3 years now. I love it. DirecTv only goes out here during a bad storm, but hey if it's storming that bad, you really shouldn't have your tv on anyhow. The cable companies lie in their advertising saying that DirecTv goes out every time it rains or snows and that's a total lie.
