So what was the story as to why Peter Bergman left AMC? Was he fired. I just caught the last few moments of his soapography...and he seemed to really love his time at AMC and even talked about how people thought he was "sticking it to AMC in 1991 when he won his first Emmy"

Also a sweet story: he said when he was in NYC one year for the Emmys after he had won two they were tearing down the old AMC studio and it upset him...so his wife Mary Ellen went to the construction site and got a brick for him! How sweet is that?? I love to hear stories about Peter and his wife, the same with Robert Newman and his wife!!!

He always said it surprised him when he was FIRED from AMC, but he still speaks fondly of the show and still keeps in contact with a few AMC co-stars.

Anyway, at this point, I can't see him as anyone but Jack Abbott. Some might still argue Lester will always be Jack, but Bergman has more than made that role his own.

In the end, being fired from AMC worked out just fine for Bergman. Jack is a way more interesting character than Cliff ever was.

Yes he was fired from AMC.

He has said several times that he that he fully believed that he would be on AMC forever. He loved working there, and honestly felt that his role of Cliff Warner was going to be the next Dr. Joe Martin.

I think if Taylor Miller had stayed put he probably would have, but no one they put him with after she left was ever accepted by the audience. Cliff & Nina were it.

Honestly I liked him with both Angie and Devon and think either would have worked, but with Angie they were still nervous about them being of different races.

Just a note of trivia Peter Bergman originally auditioned for Jeff Martin - he didn't get the role but they remembered him and hired him to play Cliff. I don't think it was one of those things where the role was created specifically for him but was planned and they remembered Peter. I know that they were looking for a Jeff recast in early 1979 when James O'Sullivan left the role. They went ahead and scrapped bring Jeff back on at the time and wrote him out. He did not come back to town until 1986 then played by Jeffrey Byron.

Anyway Peter ended up as Cliff instead of as Jeff. I honestly think it would have been interesting to have seen the show keep Jeff around but I guess at the time it would have been weird as Jeff was still married and they would have had to have him divorce for him to get involved with Nina.

I love Peter as Jack and he has made the role his own, but the definitive Jack for me is still Terry Lester. They both play a different Jack and made the role their owns, but Terry's jack was so devilish and so sexy. Peter has some of that but not the full sexiness that Terry had. One thing about both actors could act and both were equally talented.

Peter Bergman had these famous lines:

"I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV." They had him on some TV Land special, Famous Catchphrases, and he was on there talking about how he was in the commercial for cough medicine, and how everyone who would see him on the street, would ask him for medical advice

Peter said that Debbi Morgan (a Y&R fan) is the one who convinced him to play Jack Abbott. I am so thankful for her because I can't imagine not having Peter as Jack! He is absolutely amazing, being fired from AMC is the best thing to ever happen to him.,

I had never heard any rumors of Peter being a diva. Quiet the contrary actually.

Peter was fired at a very trying time for the show. It was at a point of transition in 1989. Ratings were down, and the show needed a boost. They fired a lot of legacy characters and actors at the same time including Mark LaMura (ex-Mark Dalton), Kathleen Noone (ex-Ellen Shepherd Dalton), Vasili Bogazianos (ex- Benny Sago) and Peter Bergman (ex- Cliff Warner). There was an interview about that time on the show with Felicia Behr I think it was, and they talked about how they were banking on the younger cast, especially Maurice Bernard (ex- Nico Kelly) and Rosa Nevin (ex-Cecily Davidson Brent), and we saw what good that did them because they jumped ship themselves. At the end of the day, the cast cuts did not really hurt the show, quiet the contrary actually as AMC lead the early 90's.

I love the Peter Begman story. Mary Ellen actually grabbed the brick right after he won the first Emmy. I think Peter and Cliff could have stuck around Pine Valley sans Nina (in the form of Taylor Miller or otherwise). His chemistry with Debi was very good, but the public, and abc, was not ready for that. But there was a big part of the canvas that he did not have a chance to interact with in any other capacity than go-to doctor/wedding guest. It did not help that he was not a direct family member of any of the major families. By the end of his run, he was a "floating" character, much like Simone Torres (Terri Ivens). He was just shifted from one relationship to another, from one group of friends to the next.

The thing about Peter is that he is really loyal to his AMC roots. He loves James Mitchell (Palmer Cortlandt). If James ever retires, or heaven forbid he asks for his character to be killed off, I can see Peter asking for an out in his Y&R contact to make an appearence as Cliff in his honour.

You have inside sources do you? Because every interview I've read with Bergman, anything I've ever heard about him is he is nothing like Eric Braeden in terms of being a "diva".

Peter Bergman is one of the few actors on daytime television to have two roles that were made for him. He will always be remembered as Dr. Cliff Warner, but he has also made the role of Jack Abbott his when for a while people assumed no one could ever match Terry Lester.

Peter Bergman is one of the most talented men to ever grace the daytime screen. I am cheering him on for another emmy this June!

    • I think it's the next day, or nothing explicitly ties this one to the prior one, unless Shawn had on the same clothes as when he called in sick? So maybe I'm wrong. Did they acknowledge that Tate's little sister and babymama seem to have the same birthday? And why wasn't Tate invited to Rachel's tea party?? Javi trained to be an EMT (I thought it was in Corpus Christi, though). He revealed this after he saved Sarah from certain death -- by reminding her that she had an EpiPen -- and Leo questioned how he knew what to do.
    • He refuses to have a dad bod.
    • Lol. For one...that jacket was off. For another...the costume designer went for comfortable BUT form fitting at the same time. For another...I guess JM is working out again cuz he looked yummy.    That said...yep. BtG suuuuuure do.
    • Same as me. So you already know what's coming as soon as I sit down to start watching this week.
    • 5-19   You know what? I actually didn't dislike it as much the second time around. But tbf, I didn't hate it the first time either. It's already been established so far that RC's breakdowns can be pretty hit or miss. And I would say his average so far on this show has been 50/50.   Outside of Jacob vs Silk Press Sheila, it was all B/C plots. However, I got the sense that there was plot movement...something for better or for worse, RC does know how to do. And even within those plots, I felt there were so good character development moments.   What really stood out for me was Doug and Vanessa's last scene. FINALLY, they stopped dancing around it. And we got more information on what their arrangement truly is in terms of their marriage. Given the building toward it through Vanessa's sexacapedes and Doug's gambling storyline, it felt earned. And lest we forget...he still didn't tell her about his addiction nor what's going on with Joey. Meanwhile, Dani is slowly getting clues from seeing Vanessa with Joey one episode to seeing Doug in the middle of the afternoon on this episode. I don't see it as them shoving her into a storyline unlike Carly on GH if an example is needed, but it wasn't exactly organic either. Then again, the Vanessa with Joey scene was organic. Not the gambling stuff.    I did like it though. It was a nice spotlight for the Dani/Pamela friendship. And I also liked the idea that was mentioned about a Pamela vs Vanessa feud. After all, regardless of what's written on the page, they both appear on screen to be close to Dani. And I find it relatable to see two friends have issues when they are close friends to the same person, but NOT to each other. And their scene with Diego was ripe with tension.   Just cuz...HEY, DIEGO, HEY!! lol.   I loved Jacob vs SilkPress. The web that girl stays weaving continues to be fascinating to watch. I know we have discussed at length about how long SilkPress can stay on the canvas. As soon as it's figured out what she's done with Laura and allegedly Eva/Kat, it's OVER. And such a soap find...it's fascinating to watch a crafty villainess worming her way around getting caught. Which is giving old school soap. I also love that in her worming her way out of the charges, no one is being dumbed down to keep her on the canvas. So this next turn in the story is great, refreshing, and probably should be studied by other soaps.   I enjoyed Dani and Andre. Again, it has had a build. And technically if we are going there, it's about to be three months. Usually three months is the perfect time to start having the 'what are we' conversation...whether someone is casually dating or just being a booty call. And that look Andre gave Dani when she said Bill's name...oooooo he's finally over her talking about him and showing a sign of possessiveness. It's also not lost on me that his reaction to her saying her reasons...was to leave. Big uh oh for them. Where will Dani/Andre go next?   Well...look who got comfortable enough in his role that he gave some good acting aka Tomas. I liked the scenes with Tomas and Kat on a second watch. But I don't think Kat's wrong with what she said. She's so busy and focused on Eva though, she's ignoring red signs with him I am afraid.   And speaking on comfortable...look at Derek trying to act. lol. Personally, I thought both actor and actress did good jobs. And again, it's had enough of a build, you knew it was coming. And I'm surprised to type it, but I was Team Derek for that argument. He was trying to make her feel better, and it just made things worse. And Ashley was being unsufferable. How was he to know about the curry? And of course, she runs right into Andre.    Decent cliffhanger though I'm a firm NO to Andre/Ashley versus me being open to it at the start of the show. Wow...how things have changed.
    • IMDB credited that episode to Bill Bell and Pat Falken Smith, too, so obviously way off!
    • Sonny and Carly look ridiculous with this child thats the same age as Michael’s children. Maurice literally looks like he’s babysitting a grandchild but instead she’s calling him daddy.
    • Several legends here. Like @DRW50 I grew up knowing Joe Don Baker first and best from Mitchell (and his other infamous MST3K appearance, the equally hilarious Season 10 episode Final Justice - there were funny rumors he wanted to beat up the MST gang after Mitchell, while others claimed he actually took it all in good fun). I only learned later what a great actor and personality he truly was in things like Cape Fear, The Living Daylights and the original, strange and mystical BBC miniseries Edge of Darkness, where he played a CIA operative laughing in the face of nuclear annihilation. There's nobody like him. Same goes for George Wendt. Norm speaks for himself, as does Cheers. He'll never be forgotten as long as there's still television.
    • I want SHELLE to be friends, like Belle is friends with Philip.  It will always be awkward, but they've known each other since high school (24 years ago).  And it has never worked out for them romantically. One assumes Shawn-D could've used a computer at home (or Black/Patch), to continue his investigation. So, why did he show up at the Pub after he lied to take PTO, and then lied directly to Jada's face about being sick?  Unless, of course, it was just a totally inorganic, nonsense device to run into Belle. When is Johnny's first day of work?  He got the offer, met about the offer, talked about the offer.  When's he actually going into the office?  And does he own a suit (other than the red devil one)? I liked that Chad had to rule out EJ for having Philip beaten because of what happened with Rex vis-à-vis Kate, that's a cool linkage, especially because I think everyone forgot to say goodbye to Rex. 2 Questions: Is it the next day, or do Sofia, lil'Rachel, and Ari share a birthday?  Also, I missed it, how old is Ari? Did everyone skip prom?  Because I thought Prom coincided with Sofia's birthday. And what was Javi's dream job in Florida?
    • I always had the impression that Blake turning out to be Christina was a storyline switcheroo after they decided to bring back Roger. She used to talk to someone on the phone and it sounded like it was a younger sibling. Maybe originally they were going to be Spaulding cousins, like Johnny was a Bauer cousin? I'm pretty sure in the Spaulding backstory Brandon had a brother.  LOL. Nola was established as the youngest, the name Chelsea doesn't fit in with the other Reardon sibling names, AND she had a very prominent Southern accent. Kassie would have been more believable as a Lewis or a Shayne. Plus, the character was boring as heck.
