I used to be Shawn :)

I knew it was you. :P

I'm very proud of my gain this week. All the ANS posting must've given me a boost.

Juniorz, I never heard of the Best of Everything. When did that air?

To be honest with you, I have no idea. When I started doing the top 40, I was off on some of the soaps listed and some of the members (All My Shadows, R!ck, and SteveFrame) helped me fix it. You'd have to ask one of them. :)

I want to thank winterguy for his help getting me here. Thank you for the honor and award. :P:lol:

I also want to thank you soapsuds and also several of the other great posters here at SON for helping get into the top 40 :)

The Best of Everything aired on ABC from March 30 to September 25, 1970. It was created and written by James Lipton who does the Inside Actors Studio show. It aired from 12:00 to 12:30 each day.

It was a soap opera based on a movie by the same name. The movie had starred Joan Crawford. The soap starred Gale Sndergaard (Hollywood movie actress and Oscar winner) in the role from the movie that Joan Crawford played.

The leads were Susan Sullivan (who later went on to Another World) and then primetime fame on shows like Falcon Crest; Patty McCormick (former movie star and Academy Award nominee before she came to the show); Katherine Glass (who would later go on to Return to Peyton Place, One Life To Live, and The Doctors).

Jean Dadario Burke who would later have a long stint with All My Children was the producer.

The basic story followed the experiences of April Morrison (Sullivan), Linda Warren (McCormick), and Kim Jordan (Glass), secretaries at Key Publishing, as they struggle to fulfill their lives.

Geraldine Fitzgerald (mother of Mia Farrow) had a role too as the mother of Glass' character.

Where the movie focused more on Crawford's character she was more supporting here. Trivia: Later another Crawford movie, Flamingo Road, would be made into a primetime soap opera. Again the creator switched focus away from the Crawford character. Crawford's character was central to the movie, but she became secondary in the series.

With the cast the show should have been a success, but ABC was quick to cancel back then. AMC didn't do well that year, but it had Agnes Nixon on it's side and that is the biggest reason it was probably not cancelled in it's first year. ABC was trying to build a soap lineup back then and got rid of several good shows before their time.

It was a short-lived soap on ABC in 1970, based on a 50s movie. I believe it was about several women (I think young women) who aspired to make names for themselves in NYC. Very "Valley of the Dolls"-like. Matt's site has some info regarding network, time-slot, etc: http://www.soapoperahistory.com/daytime/se...thing/index.htm

Wow, looking at the list it is suprising because I barely ever see half of you post, lol. I think I need to start hanging out in more parts of the Forum.

Someday I will have to try to get onto that list.

I hate being the correction b!tch, but with you I'm pretty sure you'll appreciate it.

Maureen O'Sullivan was Mia's mom. (and actually appeared in Hannah and Her Sisters with her)

Gawd, it seems so great! A daytime soap set around young women in the publishing business...it just REEKS of soap! I'd love to create a cable channel and make new versions of short-lived soaps. I'd start with "The Best of Everything" and "Bright Promise."
