OLTL: Wednesday ~ I Love Cat Hickland

Today, I found myself enjoying Lindsay/Bo/and God help me, Paige (by default). Often, when ignorant ass hats like Higley and Frons have refused to focus on a character (Lindsay) for so long, or to recognize that said character had connections to people like Bo, it can be jarring when they are suddenly in a scene reminiscing about old times. However, Robert S. Woods and Cat Hickland are such pros, that the whole thing really resonated with me, and I enjoyed Paige's interaction with Lindsay as well.

Forbes March is hot. I am glad Nash is taking the job at Capricorn, because I would like for him and Jessica to hurry up and get together so that OLTL can have a couple worth rooting for other than Blair/Todd and possibly Marcie/Michael. Couples aren't a big deal for me, but it would be nice to have a trio of strong ones on this show, and I think Forbes-Bree is just super. Antonio showed his true colors of jealousy, and I was glad Jessica brought up his gig as a stripper. I think Bree is definitely playing integrated Jessica with a dash of Tess, because I don't think old Jess would have said stuff like "what's beneath the undies is all yours." I also liked seeing Roxie flirt with Nash.

Don't care about high school students, even if Marcie is their teacher, but at least the girls are fairly good actresses (not so much Cole), and I enjoyed seeing Starr plant that kiss on Cole.

Don't really like the guy subbing for Marston, and I'm not sure why we really needed a replacement ... couldn't they just write around this?

The fallout with Rex and the Mannings should be good!

If OLTL is entertaining me with this minor stuff, I can't wait until we get to some dramatic moments and storyline payoff soon.

Still annoyed with the history rewrites in the Todd/Marty stuff, but on the plus side: less John and Natalie lately!

I loved the scenes between Bo and Lindsay, and for once I actually was liking Paige, go figure, but I think its the simple fact is that I LOVE Lindsay, and it was great to see her with Bo and with Tommy. As much as I hate triangles, I'm going to enjoy seeing her involved in this Bo/Paige/Nora storyline.

Man is Rex getting deeper and deeper in this Manning baby stuff. How will he be able to come out of it the same?

And just what else does Spencer have up his sleeve?

When this Starr/Cole storyline first started, I really was enjoying it, now I just wish it would end.

I totally agree Shane. I have one minor difference. I do like the guy who is subbing for Nathaniel, I just don't like him as Michael. Now if they want to revert Michael to Al and have this guy play Michael fine, LOL. I think the guy has a certain charm. I agree with Shane, however, that I don't know why it was necessary to have a four-day sub.

Lindsey is a great [!@#$%^&*] and nobody plays catty better than Cat. Ohhh, I wish they would keep RJ though. All-in-all, I enjoyed today's show. I am ready to see the return of the pros -- Erika Slezak, Robin Strasser and Jerry VerDorn.

The show still has many problems, but if you like Lindsay, I think you will be happy with some of the developments at least. They really seem to be making a concerted effort to bring her back onto the canvas, touching on her relationships with everyone from Bo and Nora to Cristian and, of course, R.J.

I love Roxie. Her scenes with Nash are always good. I agree about wanting Nash and Jessica together. There are days I love them and days they are a little boring (because of the writing), but to me, they work better than Jess/Tonio

I hope that Todd scares the hell out of Rex when he finds out the truth, but doesn't really hurt him.

First of all, thank you again Shane for starting this OLTL discussion thread in my absence. :)

Secondly, today was another good day.

Roxie is always a hoot, and Lindsay is a breath of fresh air. I also noticed the Will and Carlotta mentions today too. Seems like they are throwing in more and more little pieces of history here and there.

I love how anybody and everybody in Llanview seems to be able to waltz in and out of Spencer's room at their own convience. So much for having a guard at the door. Even Spencer noticed it.

I have to agree about temp. nu-Michael. Was a temp. recast really necessary? They could have easily written around it by having the specialist, Dr. Cushing or another doctor examing her and talking the family, instead of recasting Michael for two episodes.

But anyway, the school stuff is okay...Starr, Langston and Marcie are keepinng my interest. Cole is blah, Allison is annoying, and Britney is a she devil.

Overall, today was not bad.

That thought has crossed my mind as well.

You're too cool Shane... :)

My 'absence' the last few months can be contributed to a busy semester at college, winning my first election, a death in the family, and other factors....but I have a little more time on my hands right now, and ready to discuss OLTL. Now, I just hope the show keeps giving us something good to discuss.

And while I'm not sure about Pilar, OneLifeFan was banned last year.

Hey Scotty, what was the election? Was it a campus election? Also, congratulations.

I bailed out because the show just stunk and it wasn't worth watching.

Shane, I don't think we'll get posters like Cal back. I too am a little conflicted about the show. I'm very mad about them dumping Kevin and Kely and I don't OLTL will ever be what it was to me again because of that.

Thanks Jess...it was a city commissioner election last November here in the small town here I live. I had been appointed as a city commissioner when the guy I replaced moved out of town. That was on Dec. 20, 2005. I served the last 12 1/2 months of his two year term.

Last November, I was elected a full two-year term as commissioner, which began on Jan. 1, 2007. That was my first campaign and my first election win. I'm 1-0 on elections now, so maybe I outta quit while I'm ahead.

And you're right, OLTL was pretty bad for much of last half of 2006. But it does show signs of impoving as of late.

    • I think they’re desperately trying to cover his awful tattoos. But anyway them being unable to style short kings properly has been a major pet peeve of mine for a while now.  I honestly don’t understand what some people expect from actors to even begin considering them for recognition. Let’s be real—awards mostly mean that an actor is respected by their peers and has some level of cultural relevance. Actual judgment on the acting itself? That’s often secondary—highly subjective and shaped by the times. I completely agree on both points. If you’re an actor or a dancer you shouldn’t get any tattoos (sorry not sorry). Tomas’ tattoos are ugly too. And regarding the couples- you’re completely right. These writers are unable to write romance.   Further comments: - Kat cannot be this dumb to keep tampering with evidence over and over again. And I’m officially not a fan of the actress—every time she’s in a scene with Leslie, she doesn’t seem intimidated at all. She plays it like comic relief, which is just too much, especially when paired with Leslie’s histrionics and over-the-top antics. Leslie is older, dangerous, and has literally been portrayed as homicidal—Kat should be at least a little scared. • I also didn’t like Kat playing damsel in distress with the hotel manager. It gave off the same weird energy as Dani with the cop. I would’ve much preferred the version Paul Raven suggested, with her sneaking in through housekeeping. • And yes, Dani again accused Hayley of faking the pregnancy—this time even specifying she might be using a pillow under her shirt. (No fake miscarriage being mentioned) I stand by my take: this is ridiculous writing. No one in the real world—except us, the chronically online soap watchers—would even think of such a conspiracy theory. Haley is no Beyoncé. • What in the world was Chelsea wearing in her hair the other day? And this whole thing with Madison is beyond cringe. Chelsea’s coming off as needy and toxic—basically like every other Dupree. • I’m glad the casino storyline is moving forward, but it’s still boring as hell. Honestly, I’d be so here for a plot twist where Vanessa and Doug take Joey out. • The direction and editing lately have been rough. Abrupt cuts, weird pacing… something just feels off overall. There’s a strange uneasiness to how it’s all coming together. • And finally: Tomas is too much of a saint. Where are the messy sluts when you need them? (Vanessa doesn’t count.)
    • I was watching some August 1987 episodes and they brought back so many memories. I had some thoughts: Lisa and Jamie were so dull. Lisa was such a nothing character. It boggles my mind that so much story was centered around her in such a short amount of time. Joanna Going is a talented actress, but the material was just not there.  It was so good to see Wallingford and Mitch again. I know there was talk about Felicia a while back, but these episodes reminded me how integral Felicia was for the show.  Sally Spencer was done so dirty. She is turning in superb performances in an icky storyline. I wish she had stuck around longer. She has chemistry with everyone. The McKinnons should have lasted longer. Spencer had some strong stuff with Stephen Schnetzer and Mary Alexander. AW waster such a talented actress by getting rid of her. Justice for Cheryl too. I also missed Ed Fry when he left. Sandra Ferguson was a star from the moment she came on. She was charismatic and just popped. She had immediate chemistry with RKK and blended in well with Wyndham and Watson. I'd forgotten about the teenage Matthew.  I have no memory of Peggy Lazarus. She must not have lasted long. Was the original plan for John that he was going to turn out to be the twins' real father?
    • If the new and improved copies that @rsclassicfanforever has uploaded can be manually moved into the "by month, by year" folders, that would be awesome. I personally don't think it's necessary to keep the older versions (which either have Dutch subtitles hard coded on them, or are lesser in picture quality). That's a lot of valuable drive space that could be cleared. Just my view but can appreciate others may feel differently. The structure had been by month by year previously, so I think it would be easier to conform to that, where so much prior work to get it to that format has already been done. Hopefully you can "drag and drop" so the new copies are in the right month/year? Re Clips, I never look at them now we pretty much have the episodes in full. Appreciate others may use, however. Thanks for all your hard work here @BoldRestless!
    • Oh yes defintely, Josh Griffith repeats and repeats the same storylines.
    • Isnt’t this storyline similar to the Cameron Kirsten situation though? Sharon thought she killed him. He ended up being alive and Sharon was being tormented with thinking she was seeing his face everywhere and that’s how we got that iconic scene with her and Nikki in the sewers.   I understand in Mariah’s case this is different circumstances but it does seem like a play on that whole thing. Maybe I’m wrong. I just wish if they were going to make any character follow in Sharon’s foot steps it would be Faith. Mariah wasn’t even raised by her, and her personality is different. I would expect her to take a different path. I understand I could be completely jumping ahead because the storyline hasn’t even played out yet but we’ll see.
    • Thanks again @Paul Raven Monica was completely without redeeming qualities at this point. I always found the whole Monica = Carly narrative regressive, as I don't think shows comparing characters so heavily is ever a great idea, but she's actually worse than Carly was. Was it the Pollocks who had Leslie have a miscarriage?  Giving her a child, especially by rape, was not a good idea, but a part of me wishes they'd committed to it just to see what story it might have had in later years.
