Is Passions being cancelled?

I need to pay attention to PSNS script writers and see who writes what. Which script writer(s) would you say is PSNS best?

The PSN writing team: James E. Reilly, Marlene Clark Poulter, Pete T. Rich, Maralyn Thoma, Nancy Williams Watt, N. Gail Lawrence, Mel Brez, Darrell Ray Thomas Jr., Ethel Brez, Peggy Schibi, Clem Egan

Since it's debuted, PSN has had the worst writing team in daytime, as well as ensemble. The scripts are cliched, contrived, convoluted, unoriginal. To sum it up: cringe-worthy. The show has had its moments, but at their best they were NEVER able to top the worst days of Y&R, GH or any other drama. (DAYS is the only exception)

NBC co-owns PSN, but it seems like they never cared about the show, cuz if they did, the show would have had MUCH better writers, directors & actors. They were looking for a cheap, easy way to grab their PRECIOUS demo (Women 12-34) & spin those numbers like there was no tomorrow. No wonder NBC couldn't wait to get rid of AW any faster! NBC is more to blame for AW's unjust cancellation in '99 than Procter & Gamble Productions is. It's disgusting the way all nets spin their ratings, but NBC, as a whole, goes above & beyond and lands it Bull-S!it Land.

Was J. E. Reilly fired from DAYS during his 1st stint? If so, he might have been harboring a grudge against Ken Corday, who is far from being blameless himself. I just know that Reilly is pissed that he was FIRED from DAYS during his 2nd show-destroying stint & that he wants the show to be cancelled & his willing to ""sacrifice" his baby, PSN, in order to accomplish his twisted fantasy. LOL My goodness, is JER the soap writer at which we laugh at the most? Also, did JER really think that his contract on DAYS would be extended upon its renewal in May 2006? Perhaps all that aspartame in the diet sodas he's been drinking clouded his judgement

PSN will only be renewed if there's a significant increase in the PRECIOUS female 12-49 demo (actual FEMALE VIEWERS aged 12-49, not rating points like 2.9 etc) b/w now & early May. Keep in mind that late last year, NBC Universal underwent cost-cutting measures to enusre a larger quarterly profit. Those cuts led to about 500 people being laid-off & the announcement that NBC will be pursuing "cheaper" ways of producing shows by picking up more non-scripted ones.

If NBC cancels PSN, they & James E. Reilly will be to blame. JER may never work again as a TV writter, but I'm sure he has loads of money saved up. Although, he might have wasted it on chips, cookies & sodas

DAYS, which came very close to being cancelled in May 2006, would NEVER air on a net other than NBC cuz T. Corday will NEVER relinquish control cuz he's a control freak. ABC will ONLY pick up DAYS if they owned it completely like they do with GH, OLTL & AMC. If DAYS was averaging just 500,000 more viewers than it's pulling, then NBC might consider slashing PSN's budget to record lows & renewing it for another year.

Sorry, Anti, but for the type of soap that "Passions" is, the writers have excelled. "Passions" has better one-liners than any soap I have EVER watched.

I think Days would do just fine without Passions. The difference in both shows ratings is huge. It is already like Days is the only soap on NBC anyways.

Must not be to bad, Passions has 3 Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Writing Team and a Writers Guild of America nomination. Soaps with "cringe-worthy" writing doesn't get nominations :D

That's right Jsf, Passions writing is great when JER is running on all cylinders. Heck PSNS has the same number of Writing Nominations as B&B and it's been on for twenty years compared to PSNS eight years.

Wow, Q Steph, why cheer on an inaccurate posting? I already proved Drew wrong. TONS of media cheered "Passions" in its earlier years -- not just Michael Logan. He was one of the SCORES of writers for major magazines who gave the show rave reviews.

I was cherring Drew because his post put into detail my feelings. I would love to be given a chancer and Jer has burned so many bridges. Drew made a comment about the aspiring wanting a chance and I can agree with that sentiment. He's not wrong in the declaration that Jer was given an opportunity and has failed to live up to the hype that ushered PSSNS onto the air.

Althugh, I will admit that PSSNS was my guilty pleasure in the first year for many reasons. I loved Timmy. My friends and I were all talking about the doll who came alive at work the next day. I was 13-14. I :P

The acting was also comical. Thankfully, some of the actors have gotten better; others haven't.

The show was innovative and trying different nuances but it became apprarent that PSSNS was satire poking fun at the entire genre. Jer is stuck in a wash & rinse cycle but everything is still wet.

All the praise is mostly coming from the same two sources we've already discussed, TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly, both of which are industry laughing stocks. Rolling Stone praised Passions when it debuted and was actually worth watching. And USA Today was not obviously watching daily during the hell in a closet story, as you can ask ANY fan where Passions started to go south ... where they stopped watching ... most will name that very storyline. And as I already said, media praise means [!@#$%^&*], it's what the fans and viewers are thinking that means the world.

You've proved nothing, except what I've already been saying. No praise from 2001-2007. Anyone can dig up praise on Passions from 1999-2001, those were its glory years. Try a little harder if you're going to try to go toe to toe with me again.

Speak for yourself, Drew.

I am speaking for myself. It's you and Rion who've not let anyone in this thread have their own opinions.

GH has some of the best script writers: Michele Val Jean, Mary Sue Price, Susan Wald, Karen Harris & their newest addition, Tracey Thomson, who wrote a very solid Jan. 5/07 ep. Thomson, their "weakest" writer, can wipe the floor with PSN's "best" writer. I hope u read a few scripts written especially by MV Jean, MS Price & S. Wald. They write scripts like it's nobody's business & they RARELY write anything cringe-worthy. You will be thoroughly entertained. If u aint, there's always the Spike/Jessica/Paloma etc stuff u can return to. When Eve was doing an internet on lesbianism, I couldn't believe how beyond-awful the dialogue was! It was atrocious!:lol: My goodness: Do PSN writers really think that their scripts are tape-worthy? If it aint tape-worthy, it aint watchable. MV Jean & MS Price deserve to be promoted as head writers. Kick Guza Jr. to the curb, Frons! :D

AMC had a great writing team up until late 2003. Anna T. Cascio is gone, so are a few others. A few, who have remained, are perhaps suffering from burnout. Who's a better HW? McTavish vs JER? McTavish wins hands down. AMC 1992-1995 trumps the best of DAYS 1993-1997. Contrived, convoluted, anyone? :D PSN doesn't even rate on the scale.

The Daytime Emmy have never been & never will be the measure of greatness for anything. Natalia Livingston for 2005 Supporting Actress is 1 great example have why the awards are ruined. That award lost a whole lot of credibility YEARS ago. I love Y&R & GH, but if they fail to get a single nom in 2007, I wouldn't be upset. The Daytime Emmy is a trash award. Even the Writers Guild Award is losing credibility. AMC nominated for Best Serial Writing? Yet, GH wasn't nominated. I rest my case.

Oh, I *KNOW* Emmy nominations/wins are not being thrown around as proof of quality soap opera. Because that means SO MUCH NOWADAYS!

Please excuse me until PSNS fate is determined as I am wearing blinders and will make any excuses for how great the show is.
