GH: Changes coming for February Sweeps

Dan J. Kroll at SoapCentral (he is the website administrator) has started a thread at SoapCentral about something ABC has released about Shriners return and new story telling technique.

This is what he says that ABC is saying:

[shriner's]return will coincide with an explosive storyline for the upcoming February sweep where a new storytelling technique will be used, a first in daytime.

In the thread at: http://boards.soapcentral.com/showthread.php?t=199313 they are speculation about what the change in storytelling might be.

Any ideas?

Could they be going to the arc format that Port Charles used to use. But it says this is a first for daytime so I guess that is out.

Just wondering what your thoughts are.

Guza said there is going to be a catyclismic event coming, probably for February sweeps

As long as Guza is writing this crap I wont hold my breathe about anything ''new''

Since GH is huge with stuntorama events they might copy "24"'s real-time idea?

It will be a movie or series rip-off anyway, that's for sure.

Although I've always felt that a half-hour show like B&B could more easily try to pretend to tell stories in real-time...

I sort of like the idea of doing a real time storyline. Unfortunately it would take so long and in soap world i dont think they can afford 24 episodes so one day.

What if they did just really key hours from different days? Each episode would still be in real time but the episodes wouldn't have to consecutively follow the last in the timeline. It would take a lot of thought arranging the characters and storylines so that it makes sense, but it's possible.

Will this only be for sweeps or is the new storytelling technique a permanent fixture?

And BTW, there is a soap already that tells stories in real time. It's called PASSIONS. One day takes three months to complete. LOL.

well anything new to daytime gets a welcome from me. Breath new life into Daytime. lord knows we need it.

Maybe they will jump ahead a few years, like "Alias" did?

Ok I can solve that mystery of what the new storytelling technique is.Anybody watch the television show 24 with Keifer Sutherland?Well GENERAL HOSPITAL is going to be filming in the same technique called real time filming.

I don't watch 24 so help me out. Is that something to do with the type of film they are using or the way that 24 is based upon one hour in a single day?

Hah, I knew the hacks at GH would see this as a suitable addition to their show.

This means that one episodes last now 60 minutes of real-time action and 24 episodes make one day...

Still think that a slower paced (or better written) show like B&B should have rather chosen it.

Oh please don't tell me B&B is better than GH. GH is probably not in it's best shape right now, but B&B was never really in a good shape. GH was very, very good over decades. Do you even watch GH? I would be interested for how many years you watch B&B and GH and the other soaps you might watch. And when was GH good in your opinion and when B&B was good.

Please take no offense. I'm just want to know. Most of the time i really enjoy your postings.

I watch B&B and Y&R daily, I totally love the Bell soap format (hence why my interest in Y&R is zeroing in). Used to watch GH but dropped it in 2004 and have ever since just sporadically checked it out and added DAYS, which I can currently highly recommend, permanently this year.

I won't get into comparing B&B and GH as a whole, which wasn't my intention above, although my verdict would be clear and simple. My main problem is that B&B has a history of having very long days filled with one cliffhanger following the other and therefore seemed more suitable for me than GH which has very fast storytelling but also very short days...

Don't be fooled by this. There are no changes. They are doing a different format for GH but everything else stays the same with the same old characters crammed down our throats and Jason & Sonny are the heroes in the crisis.
