Y&R Discussion Thread Week of December 18th

Yes, this week was pretty flawless despite a few glaring mistakes. Like what happened to Daniel? Did we even get to see Katherine and Jill celebrate Christmas? Katherine is one of Nikki's closest friends, so she could be at the Newmans place. And I'm pretty sure Brad wanted Abby for Christmas (crazy since he's Jewish) and Ashley said that she and Abby were going on a trip.

I loved seeing Joanna (FIERCENESS!) and Gloria fight, it's about time someone gives that cow what she deserves. And how fabulous does Tracey Bergman look with her hair straightened? FIERCE! With Jana talking of a strained relationship with her parents, I could only think that Finola Hughes would be perfect for her mother. A reunion of David/Anna? Hot! But I want 2007 to be the return of several legacy characters. I'm still in the mindset that an Abbott family revival will 100% happen.

Say what you want about the character but the actress Sharon Case is SO damn fine. IMO - and probably lots of people will get riled up - she's best actress below the age of 50 on soaps, period. Now get her finally in the lead actress competition for the Emmys...

I agree, I think SHaron Case has done a brilliant job with a very difficult character to play. Many feel last year was her Emmy year, but I completely disagree, 2006 is where it's at. Seeing Sharon stripped of everything in her life has really allowed Case to shine and the writers have actually been consistant! I only wish Drucilla's arc could've been better mapped out.

It's sad whenever I see Ashley knowing Davidson is leaving. Those evil bastards need to hurry and recast the role. I do NOT want to see Jack alone and Ashley is the easier Abbott to write for. My husband, Ji Min, is sitting on the sidelines doing nothing and his only potential romance is Ashley. It would've been best with Davidson, but I'll take whatever I can get.

Oh yeah and another unpopular opinion...I really love Amelia Heinle as Victoria! I hated her last year, but I think Latham's writing for her is a little better, though she needs her own story. We rarely get to see what all she can do. She could carry a story much better than Don Diamont.

Has anything been mentioned about Daniel? Has he been forgotten to spend Christmas alone in the hospital? Does Phyllis know about him yet? I'm sure I've missed something, a throwaway line, anything?

Nick said that he was released today and that they would see him later today.

I am getting tired of the Gloria and Joanna backbiting.

I want them in the tradition of Krystle and Alexis of Dynasty to have a catfight!LOL!

A down and dirty catfight.

And I want Joanna to win!!!!! :D

ETA: Jana just compared them to Krystle and Alexis!!!

Has anything been mentioned about Daniel?

Blandily mentioned he's doing so much better and Nick & Phyllis also mentioned that Daniel has already been released from the hospital...

BTW: Nick & Phyllis still bore me to tears. What's their purpose? Are they hitting the barn again so that this once great character can end up pregnant with "the Newman heir" again? They're definitely one major annoyance...

Haven't seen today's show but it seems Xmas is falling a bit flat. Y&R has more days left till the end of year than the other CBS soaps so maybe Monday will also be Xmas-themed??? I'll keep my positive spirit du jour because this week was good but I can't help it even now but to look at general problems of the show.

I really have to chime in and agree with how great Sharon Case is. I only catch Y&R occasionally and it's always surprised me that she doesn't get more kudos than she does. She's a really natural actress and even when she's trading barbs with the likes of Phyllis, it never descends into stereotypical soapy melodrama.

Someone the other day likened her to KKL's Brooke (whom I also love) but the difference is while Brooke has always been clamouring for acceptance with *very* little dignity, Sharon's just "Yeah I know I'm flawed but so are the rest of you." There's very little pretense.

Okay, I saw them say something about Daniel a few minutes after I posted, but still... LOL! What was the point of the car accident? They could have held up Nick any number of ways so that Jack could deliver the Swoop baby. We get no reaction from Phyllis and I doubt it'll impact Dily. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I love me some Joanna. Was anybody else expecting that vegetable tray to go flying in the air when she and GloHo were playing tug of war with it? LOL! Jo mentioned that she's staying indefinitely, so perhaps we'll be seeing more of her through the New Year and she'll keep making Gloria's life miserable.

I thought it was weird how they were playing this ominous music during Jana and Kevin's making out, then they panned to a book about serial killers. So, was that a huge clue that Jana murdered Carmen and will be striking again?

I wouldn't eat anything that the Newmans had spread out on the table, cause I'm sure Zapato gave everything his special taste test. Bleecch!

Lastly, B&B definitely outdid Y&R this year with the Christmas episodes.

I think both Gloria and Joanna are annoying as hell. This is the first time Ive seen Joanna and cant stand her. Those 2 deserve each other, just get them off my screen

They did it last year too.

Wow, the Newmans give out some STUPID gifts! LoL

What a stupid gift they gave Victoria! No wonder she looked totally annoyed.

The Newmans gift were odd

But I guess when you're mega-billionaires there really isn't much to give.

Hey, not everyone can get a book on serial killers to enjoy the spirit of the season... LOL!

Kevin & Jana were a hoot, so were Glo and Jo - those two are priceless! - the rest was rather meh: I totally got Zapato's sentiment (If you don't know what I mean: He was lying terribly annoyed at the floor...).

The one thing I loved about the Nemwan presents: The payback is a [!@#$%^&*]-presents to Jack & Brad. My jaw dropped south when Victor referred to the Coup d'Etat at NE in 1998. The frozen faces of Brad & Jack - LMAO!

Those were the glorious Kay Alden years! I guess I should watch my tapes from back then instead of the current drivel?

That's another moment I enjoyed from yesterday's episode.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, Victor got his pimp coat back. LOL! Wasn't he sporting that just last winter?

I guess after Nikki received Victor's gift, a donation made on her behalf to some epilepsy foundation (great for the foundation, but seriously?), she figured she just as well just dig something old out of his closet and re-gift it to him. LOL!

With Brad, Jack, and Vicki's gifts, Victor and Nikki were letting them know that they knew they were either lying or up to no good. Victoria's gift was a essay she wrote in elementry school where she lied and told her teacher she left it on the bus, but really he hadn't finished it. And later she told the truth. Nikki and Victor dropped a little hint that they knew she was lying about Brad. The NE letterhead that had Brad and Jack as Co-CEO's should have let them know that Victor was about to bring the hammer down on both of them.

I have to admit that this Christmas episode was much better than last year's. Last year was so gloomy and dull. And thank God they didn't overdo the Hanukah stuff. I liked the Victor and Summer scenes. Victor seems to really love his granddaughter. Can you imagine if somebody deared to mess with Summer Ann Newman? They'd have to deal with Victor AND Phyllis. Forget Nick.

While I was watching I thought to myself, maybe there was no Winters because VR and CK just couldn't even pretend to play nice for an entire episode  Seriously, Devon is there only child now lol.

How could I forget to mention. The moment I saw IT I wanted to jump to my computer but it was late... LOL!

The pimp coat rocked, put it back on Vic-baby! LMAO!!!

Overall, the Xmas show was still very bland and blah but it had its highlights. I was hoping for more of Chanukah though, could have been interesting...
