DAYS: Casting Rumor for NuPhil

Just like that rumor at Coffeerooms' Today board, I'm just relaying info. Not sure if it's true or not. But just in case it is, here's some info about a possible recast for Phillip:

Posssible Casting Spoiler

Apparently Andrew Samonsky auditioned for the role of Phillip. Some of Andrew's credits include Jon, in Tick… Tick… BOOM!, Nick in the national tour of Disney's On The Record. He also played a small part in Guiding Light, so he's no stranger to daytime! He has also gotten rave reviews all over the net! After his August 17th performance in Tick… Tick… BOOM!, Lily in Lakewood, CA writes, "A definite must see for those who love musical theatre!!! Andrew Samonsky clearly owns the role of Jon. I have seen (the show) four times and his acting has been consistently flawless and amazing."
Then later the moderator of the board had this to say:

Anyone remember seeing him at Guiding Light? I don't know if the poster was Andrew's agent and decided to post this at soapcentral to encourage TPTB at Days to hire him or what? I just think it's strange that this is the 2nd time that whoever decided to post info about a new actor at soapcentral and provided links to pictures. Remember a poster at soapcentral did the same thing about a supposedly new Will about a month or so ago.....

I did a quick google search and found some more info about him:

In that pic, he looks kind of like JKJ....

He has his own website too, with his resume and some more pics.

He looks really different in the pics on his website compared to that pic with Scott Bakula. Weird.

He reminds me a bit of JKJ.

I don't know though. He doesn't have the evil look and that may be a problem given the character's new direction. Days has made some great casting choices so we'll see since it's only a rumor. He looks quite young.

Do you know who he reminds me of in some of his pictures? Like the blond-haired guy with glasses in Rent.

I've been reading some reviews of the musicals where he was cast and apparently he does a good job at playing a full of himself, arrogant guy.

Here's a review of the latest musical which he performed:

GO tick . . . tick . . . BOOM! Long before he scored a posthumous Broadway hit with Rent, Jonathan Larson wanted to act in and write musicals. When production opportunities proved elusive, he created a one-man show for himself — an autobiographical rock monologue that he could perform with just a piano and a band. Later, producer Robyn Goodman, director Scott Schwarz and writer David Auburn joined forces to expand and produce the piece in its current form. The title refers to the obsession of Jon (Andrew Samonsky) as he approaches his 30th birthday with little to show for it. He’s launching a workshop production of his musical Superbia!, but that’s not enough to satisfy girlfriend Susan (Tami Tappan Damiano), who wants to move to Cape Cod, or gay friend Michael (Wilson Cruz), who wants him to give up waiting tables and go into advertising. The monologue form sometimes works against the piece: Susan and Michael are never fully developed characters, despite exemplary work by Cruz and Damiano, and Jon can seem exasperatingly solipsistic. But the songs are invigorating, the cast is terrific and the production, leaning heavily on rock-concert style, inspired opening-night audiences to near-hysterical delight.

Here's another review of him:

Andrew Samonsky

tick … tick … BOOM! showstopper)

He had us at … whatever it was he said when he opened his mouth on stage for the very fist time in the Rubicon Theatre Company’s production of tick … tick … BOOM! It may have been “tick.” It could have been “boom.” Whatever it was, it was the beginning of an inspired performance built on a foundation of solid-gold talent.

The fact that he’s a local treasure was probably lost on the full house that had no clue Andrew Samonsky is from Ventura, and gave him an enthusiastic standing ovation nonetheless. It was an ovation he would have deserved had he been born in New York City, Kalamazoo or under a particularly large rock.

Yes, the future of musical theater, dinner theater, hell, any kind of theater, sitcom, soap opera or feature film has a name — and that name is Samonsky with a capital “Holy crap, where did you come from?” The Answer? Ventura.

Yes, tick … tick … BOOM! is a show well written and creatively surprising. The great talents who made it happen for the Rubicon wielded their magic wands astoundingly well. As an experience in theater, it was a revelation. And at the center of that revelation was 30-year-old Samonsky, who recently relocated to his hometown from New York and continues striving to secure steady work as an actor.

Samonsky attended Buena High School before going on to earn a degree in voice from California State University, Northridge, and a masters of fine art degree in acting from the University of California, Irvine. Locally, Samonsky portrayed Algernon in a musical adaptation of The Importance of Being Earnest, at Ventura College. His regional credits include Forever Plaid, Into the Woods, Once Upon a Mattress and Smokey Joe’s Café. Samonsky also appeared on television on Guiding Light, and recently completed a tour of Disney’s On the Record.

Since the wonders never cease, it does boggle the mind that Tom Cruise is a millionaire while Andrew Samonsky and others like him are not. Still, money doesn’t make the world go ’round, and watching Samonsky succeed as an artist is an inspiration to anyone who continues to feed the artist inside. No, Samonsky isn’t a millionaire — but if the respect of the people in his hometown could be converted to currency, he’d be driving a Rolls to the airport right now to take his eighth trip around the world.

He’s one to watch, and someday the whole world’s going to know it.

Too Broadway-y, which means he can act and he's girly. Both are a big N-O for Phillip. He has to be played by someone manly, neanderthal-like, and not very talented.

I disagree on the non-talented front, King, given the direction they're going for. Just look at Aniston. ;)
