It just seems like Steve reaching out to someone he feel comfortable with and someone who never knew him before his amnesia (or did she ). I think it makes sense and we already know from Fall spoilers Steve/Kayla has big story coming up so this may be nothing but a step on the way to them reuniting for good. But for now I don't see this as being forced, it's happening naturally and I think it's nice. Pinson and Nichols definitely have chemistry. Also I don't think it would be possible to just have Steve back and hanging over Kayla. There has to be conflict plus Patch is a very charismatic character and him just being clamped down without knowing Kayla (even though he's Nick) would seem very weird.
