August 27, 200619 yr Member Just heard about this a little bit ago. A Delta Comair flight out of Bluegrass Airport in Lexington went down this morning shortly after leaving the runway and caught fire after impact. 49 confirmed dead. One survivor was pulled from the wreckage. From what I hear, the bulk of the passengers are most likely people in the horse industry since the flight was headed to Atlanta where the Equestrian Games are currently being held. This is the largest air distaster in KY history and the 2nd largest loss of life in KY in single incident (behind the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire tragedy where about 180 people died in the late 1970s). Terrorism has been ruled out and the accident is being speculated as having been caused by the plane's taking off from the wrong runway (one about 1/2 the size of the length needed for a plane of that type). I slept with a Comair pilot once and am acquainted with a couple of Comair flight attendants in Lexington (only one FA was among the crew of 3 on board -- the single survivor was a co-pilot), so I'm anxiously watching the news to see if anyone I knew was on board.
August 27, 200619 yr Member I hope that everyone for your sake, Matt, is OK. That is terrible to hear, tho. my heart goes out to the families
August 27, 200619 yr Author Member Associated Press is reporting that a former UK baseball player and his wife were on the plane. They were married last night.
August 27, 200619 yr Author Member The flight attendant on board was *not* someone I knew. However, I'm still unsure about the pilot and co-pilot. I've never been good with names.

They were married last night. The local news announcer here for WYMT went to school with both of them. She seemed to have a tough time keeping it together when speaking about them. She had talked to a friend that was in the wedding party and said it was just complete shock. Matt, I just now noticed you were from Frankfort. I have family that lives there. Small world.
August 28, 200619 yr Author Member Well, I wouldn't exactly say I'm *from* Frankfort --- I've just lived here for the last 9 years. I'm originally (born & raised) from Campbellsville and went to college at Eastern.
