  1. Or did it just mean those 4 actors would not be appearing on the Monday episode? Not sure how they would indicate on the previous weeks list who would be needed for a Friday rehearsal for the Monday show. Again @JAS0N47 thanks for continuing to share.
  2. Jill pilfered a crate of Jabot heavy hold hairspray and dammit, she was going to make the most of it!
  3. I'm in favor of a separate thread. Justice for Day in Court!
  4. Eight is Enough really fell off in the ratings in its final season. It was 12th in 79/80 but the following season the premiere ranked 12th and it didn't reappear in the Top 20 all season. Viewers preferred Real People on NBC and Eight was shunted off to Sat @8, replacing another former Wed winner Charlie's Angels. Greatest American Hero replaced it on Wed late in the 80-81 season.
  5. They made two attempts with Sandy and both actresses were duds. A pity, because that was it for Sandy- a legacy Horton character. Now if Deidre Hall had have been Sandy instead of Marlena....
  6. @jam6242 Thanks so much for that article.
  7. @DRW50 Check out Deadline a 1959 syndicated series. All 39 episodes are on YouTube. Filmed in New York and every episode features actors that appeared on soaps around that time, some well known and others lesser known. It's a good opportunity to see those actors and get a feel for how they would have presented on the soaps. The likes of Henderson Forsythe, Mary K Wells, Jada Rowland, Paul Stevens, Bernard Grant, Mark Rydell, Lanna Saunders and many more.
  8. Thanks for more Day in Court info. At some point around 65 I think they went for a more soapy serial format with the cases lasting a week and maybe some out of court sequences? Information is scant. Wasn't originally just a case a day? And the casting budget was increased so we see some more established names. Bringing back those 1920's and 30's movie actors may have garnered a little publicity. I wonder how many of them were happy to do it for a bit of fun, or for some was it in the hope of getting more work? The next goal is to find out more about Hotel Cosmopolitan and some of the other anthologies like For Better or Worse and House on High Street.
  9. 11 episodes gets you top ranking? Most of the cast was barely on. Is this a budget thing? Sharon with 4 eps is keeping consistent. Phyllis with 1 ep. Good to see!
  10. Great analysis and comments @DRW50 Had Jacquie stayed there probably would be more interest in Alice's family or maybe Pat still would have been dumped with them figuring they had enough over 40 ladies. It just seems foolish that. when a show is struggling, the core family is dropped. Pat and her kids had plenty of story material and there was Ricky in the wings who could have come to stay with Liz, a long lost child for Russ (that did that later). Or at least give Tracey a kid that Russ could step parent. Maybe Lionel Johnson wanted to leave, so send Mike off for a few weeks/months and recast. Instead they married him off and he left for good. The dismantling of the show at that time was something they never recovered from.

  12. Love Boat reruns continued on ABC right up to mid 83 when Loving debuted. I imagine that the ratings softened as the years went by but once Love Boat was gone, ABC really struggled in that 11am timeslot.
  13. Some New York ratings from first six weeks of 80-81 season. Interesting to see how various shows were doing in those major markets compared to nationally. 15. Thanks for the 87 episode @YRfan23 The seldom seen Newman dining room. Wonder why they decided to use it?- as often they would be just having a coffee/juice in the living room post breakfast. Maybe so Nikki could have her fall down the stairs w/o being seen. A 4 and a half minute opening scene-no way would that happen today. Nice to see Casey-a pity she didn't stay around as a recurring doctor/talk to. And John and Carol turning up at the very en, always nice to be surprised. I always wondered how Nikki would have these elaborate hair do's day to day. Did she have a hairdresser squirreled away upstairs?

Roots the Next Generation (R) 7.0/15 The 80/91 season was affected by a strike which delayed production, so some of these mini series were scheduled to provide new content early in the season, or like Centennial, repeated to fill in timeslots, maybe not originally intended for airing at that particular time. Murder in Texas established Farrah Fawcett as a dramatic actress and lead to more challenging roles for her.

  19. Bob had a daughter Emily who was around in the 60's and early 70's, so Bob would have had more to do then.
  20. I am always puzzled by random stuff like that. Search seemed pretty uninterested in the past, yet here is Dr Bob, who really had no connection to the current show. Maybe it was a favor to Carl Low by someone at P&G or CBS that liked him?
  21. When Brenda left, that was the time Ashley should have been rested for a while. Having to watch sad sack Shari and the crap stories she was given did nothing for the character or the show. We would have been spared the pointless Cole/Ashley marriage, for example. And then Eileen could have returned guns blazing with story possibilities from her time away.
  22. I stand corrected. Actually. The end of Here's Lucy reruns marked the first time that Lucy wasn't represented on the overall CBS schedule.
  23. Jay Kerr talks abot Y&R Interviewer: Tell me about The Young and the Restless. Jay Kerr: I’ll tell you the honest to God truth. I was offered a chance to go read for that soap opera a couple of times and never would. Everywhere I go, people don’t say Five Mile Creek or Wizards and Warriors or First and Ten. They say The Young and the Restless. To me, it’s funny because that’s kind of the bottom. I hate to say this, but actors really want to do everything else. The last thing they want to resort to is a soap opera, and that’s where I was. It’s kind of like playing in the Superbowl, and somebody comes and remembers you, and then talks to you about what high school you went to. I had done prime-time television, which isn’t the Superbowl -- I mean, I never did film, but I had some success. I wasn’t working for a while. I had a Busch beer commercial that was doing real well, but as a last resort I went to work on The Young and the Restless. God almighty, I didn’t enjoy it. I was a terrible actor on it -- wore glasses and was completely miscast. My last line of the show was, ‘I’ll be back in ten minutes,’ and I never showed back up for years and years, and nobody seemed to care.
  24. Chico & The Man reruns were scheduled in May 77 after Lovers & Friends was taken off after 65 episodes. Up against SFT and RH. Here's Lucy went off the air in Nov 77 when GL expanded to an hour displacing Match Game which moved to the morning following TPIR whichin turn moved up half an hour to displace Lucy at 10am. That was the first time that Lucy reruns hadn't aired on CBS mornings since 1959. The end of an era. Family Feud was up against Love of Life and Knockout at 11.30 am. Gong Show was at 4pm opposite EON and Tattletales but NBC would move it to 12.30 replacing Chico in December.
  25. Didn't Felicia have Miss Devon? Was she more of a personal assistant? What happened to her?
