I wonder if Rosemary was ever asked to return in the 70's and early 80's? Would she have been willing to return when Grandpa Hughes passed away for example?

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
Days initial ratings were low so I guess they felt changes had to be made. The initial stories were centered on Marie and her triangle with father and son Craig and Tony. Julie was troubled and hooked up with David Martin. Tom was involved in a malpractice suit and then some stuff about poisoned water supply that pitched Mickey against Tom. Bill Bell brought in Laura to set up Laura/Bill/Mickey and the Susan/Julie/David triangle.

Isn't it the case that Richards had taped a weeks worth of episodes before all of this went down and therefore they are being shown in fairness to the contestants and the integrity of the game.

Days of Our Lives: September 2021 Discussion Thread
Having read SSH's SOD interview about the Doug story I am more postive about the story. Doug/Bill is 96 years old FGS. I am sure he is finding it harder to act, especially on the fast paced way Days is taped. So they are setting it up that perhaps Doug is slowing down and needs care. That way he can be offscreen and viewers can be assured Doug/Bill is being well cared for. Some scenes for Julie that reflect how hard this is for a partner. Julie can keep appearing as Susan seems fighting fit. And I think it would be great for Susan to know she has a place to go to. I think this is better than seeing Bill ailing onscreen as we saw with Frances Reid, as that was quite distressing, or Doug suddenly passing away when Bill does (hopefully not for a while).

Ratings from the 70's
One year later Nov 71 1. As The World Turns 10.6 2.General Hospital 10.5 3. Days of Our Lives 10.4 4.The Doctors 9.8 5. Another World 9.6 6. Edge of Night 9.4 7. Hollywood Squares 9.2 8. Family Affair 8.8 9.Search for Tomorrow 8.6 10.Let's Make A Deal 8.4 11. Newlywed Game 8.4 12.Jeopardy 8.2 13. Guiding Light 7.9 14. Love Is A Many Splendored Thing 7.7 15, Dating Game 7.6 16. Password 7.6 17. Love of Life 7.3 18. Gomer Pyle 7.1 19.Love American Style 7.1 20. One Life to Live 7.1 Big jump for Days and corresponding drop for LIAMST. Both Days and GH would hit #1 around this time, marking first time that ATWT was not top weekly soap in over 10 years. CBS would bring Irna Phillips back to ATWT and move GL up against Days under pressure from P&G. ATWT did go back to being regular #1 as I never read that another soap deposed it in the weekly ratings until AMC in 74 I believe. SFT was always a self starter as Love of Life and then Where The Heart Is never provided a solid lead in. Interesting to see that OLTL was the first ABC soap to make an impression apart from GH. With its 3 soap block in the top 5, NBC couldn't get its 3.30 soap to hold viewers after AW. Bright Promise is nowhere to be seen and Return to Peyton Place would be introduced in 72 with hopes of changing that ,but no dice.

Secret Storm and Love of Life suffering. This was after CBS took over production and started tinkering. No sign of any other ABC soaps (AMC,OLTL, DS, AWA) Days closing in on Splendored Thing.

Linda Grover had already written for The Doctors and failed to lift the ratings. Wonder how these writers get chosen? Doesn't seem from what happened onscreen that she had a bunch of story plans that dazzled the execs.

Cosmetic Work of the Soap Stars
The Knots Landing Ladies Joan is 78, Donna is 80 and Michelle is 79. Donna and Michelle look nowhere near their ages but Joan's work has been a problem for years. Nonetheless its kind of spooky to realize they are that old and to think of 'ordinary' folk you know of that age. The hands are always a problem. People forget to apply sunscreen from an early age to their hands. i wonder how they would look in real life. I saw Joan Rivers once and she was had the face and big hair on this tiny skeletal body.

Y&R September 2021 Discussion Thread
Such a waste . And like Tara, he just got dropped without any follow through. I am getting distracted by Eric Braeden obviously reading his lines via cue cards etc. When he was talking to Nick at Society he was doing his usual non eye contact thing and odd phrasing. When Victor left the table you could see writing on the menu that was placed on the table and I'm pretty sure it wasn't 'today' s specials'. If he can no longer remember his lines he should have the dignity to bow out, or take a more limited role. It must be frustrating for the other actors. Also, last week,Sally,Adam and Chloe had an encounter at the deserted Crimson Lights. Then later in the episode,Adam was in his office and I'm wondering why the scene wouldn't have been staged there? Were those CL scenes taped at a different time and all 3 actors not on set for an office scene? Puzzling. I was watching some 2017 episodes and the difference is obvious. Larger sets, more of them and extras...

Ratings from the 60's
I think that was the time Jane and Ira Avery were headwriters. The ratings only give us one side of the story. For example I was surprised to see Where The Action Is scoring so high for ABC and when I investigated it made sense as ABC were showing it mid afternoon during Summer. Once school went back it was moved to late afternoon in the hopes of holding the teen audience but viewing patterns change once vacation is over and it never rated that high again. Similar to the 70's when Happy Days repeats were scoring high for ABC daytime but it really was a Summer only phenomena.

Networks & Network Execs
Madeline David was head of NBC daytime January 76 till November 77. In October 79,Orin Tovrov who wrote for The Doctors in its first few years landed a gig as daytime consultant at NBC. Wonder what input (if any) he had? I've read that sometimes these consultants get paid but there advice is ignored.

Cosmetic Work of the Soap Stars
Thought I'd resurrect one of the most popular threads from the past. Let's talk about who's had work done and our thoughts about it. hopefully we'll get some input from our esteemed poster Daytime Fan. I was inspired by photos of Lisa Rinna in Beyond Salem. She seems to be taking her look to the extreme.

Michael Brockman took over in Jan 78 at NBC and an announcement was made in June that the idea was canned.
