Audra Lindley played Liz vaguely similarly to Ruth Warrick's Phoebe Tyler on AMC -- minus the alcohol problem.

Though there was much more of a comedic element to Phoebe. There was nothing funny about Audrey Lindley's Liz -- she was scary.

I doubt Sophia is really dead mostly because I don't think they would let Kristen commit the murder of a teenage girl. Days seems to really want to hang on to that character for whatever reason.

One of my biggest pet peeves about the show since the Reilly era is treating attempted murder as no big deal. So many characters have been tainted by that.

probably the best solution is to avoid asking the performers involved to be in scenes together.

Yes, I love 'em both and Maggie and Marlena should be close friends – but I'd rather they never share a scene together again, no matter how illogical that would be, if Dee can't hide her disdain. And it appears she can't, going back years.

  4. I never cared much for the character of Luke Spencer but I certainly recognized Geary's skill and dedication, and his uncanny ability to stay front and center in story long after other GH vets had been swept by the wayside. He was indeed a legend of the genre.

I have vague memories of him on Bright Promise, where, IIRC, he played a very different role than Luke.

RIP and condolences to his family, friends and fans.

I don't know.  The animosity seems to be more recent than the mid 80s.

Upon reflection, I think you're right, their chilliness toward each other was more recent. She said women on the show in 1984 were not supportive and she still stays away from them. She seems friendly with Susan Hayes so Deidre is the only woman still around from those days, though I guess Kristian Alfonso and Leann Hunley could also qualify. And it might be someone long gone but who is still present in Suzanne's social circles.

It's a shame because those two actually did seem like they were close offscreen and it's sad Marlena/Maggie aren't able to be there for one another as longtime, dear friends on the show.

They were indeed close at one time – Suzanne played herself in Dee's "Never Say Never" TV movie, supporting Dee on her surrogacy journey.

It really is wonderful that Days was able to bring back the only surviving actor from the original main cast to be a part of the 60th anniversary celebrations. To have her/Marie be a part of this just feels right.

Maree is not "my" Marie -- that would be the dearly departed Lanna Saunders -- but I'm awfully glad she continues to pop up. And I'm thrilled that today featured some clips I've never seen. I loved action hero Tom Horton breaking the glass doors into the office where Bill and Mickey were struggling, and seeing a young Susan Flannery.

It's true that I was disappointed in AW by 1981 and couldn't stomach watching the show live, but a break of 44 (!!!) years makes me less bitter about the show's destruction, and just seeing folks like Jim and Pat is nostalgic and touching. I'm looking forward to watching these eps.

Yes, I didn't like most anything from that year, but it was a treat to see (what was left of) the Matthews in that Christmas video. But I know at the time I didn't like Linda Borgeson or Jennifer Runyon, and I wasn't happy with a Pat-Brian pairing, either.

  9. AW:

    • Rachel taunting Alice about Steve: "We had a love you could never know."

    • Practically any scene between Vicky Wyndham and Beverlee McKinsey

    • Rachel saving Mac in St. Croix

    • Dennis and Jamie discovering Rocky's dismembered body beneath the floorboards of the Cory boathouse

    • The sound of Olive Randolph wailing over the end credits after she discovered that her husband killed her lover

Abe, Steve and Shane's and Roman and Kayla's eulogies stood out to me the most.

They were all effective but Paul's is the one that got to me most. Christopher Sean has the same ability Drake Hogestyn had –- to make me absolutely believe that his character cares deeply for his onscreen family and friends.

  11. Going back to the Reilly days, so many Salem residents have killed, tried to kill and/or threatened to kill people with virtually no fallout for them. It's bothered me for decades. With the new writers, it seems there might actually be actual consequences to Xander's violence this time. I hope it's not resolved quickly. Paul and Linsey both did a great job today.
