  1. I think the biggest shift in the qualifying system was the creation of the younger categories and their eventual age limit. I feel the younger categories were created so that newcomers wouldn't overshadow long-tenured veterans and with the age limit, it made the supporting categories a holding tank for those who aged out of the younger categories but were not at long-tenured veteran level or at superstar level to be nominated for the lead categories. No other awards have a category with an age limit and that in a way detracts from the legitimacy of the awards. IMO the results of the younger categories from the mid-1990s to the end showed how much the talent pool in daytime dropped during that era.
  2. I think there was some controversy over Laurie Heineman win in 1978 and that lead to the creation of the supporting categories the following year.
  3. There's a reason why no 2007 episodes were shown during the classics. Halfway through the month and 90% has been "what is this mess?"
  4. Another World at the Daytime Emmys Wins Laurie Heineman: Lead Actress 1978 Irene Dailey: Lead Actress 1979 Douglass Watson: Lead Actor 1980, 1981 Ellen Wheeler: Younger Actress 1986 Anne Heche: Younger Actress 1991 Linda Dano: Lead Actress 1993 Charles Keating: Lead Actor 1996 Anna Holbrook: Supporting Actress 1996 Nominations Beverlee McKinsey: Lead Actress 1977-1980 Victoria Wyndham: Lead Actress 1978, 1979 Julius LaRosa: Supporting Actor 1980 Howard E. Rollins, Jr.: Supporting Actor 1983 Paul Stevens: Supporting Actor 1984 Don Scardino: Younger Actor 1986 Douglass Watson: Lead Actor 1989 David Forsyth: Supporting Actor 1989, 1996 Anne Heche: Younger Actress 1989 Stephen Schnetzer: Lead Actor 1990 Charles Keating: Supporting Actor 1992, 1993; Lead Actor 1994 Linda Dano: Supporting Actress 1992; Lead Actress 1994, 1996 Alla Korot: Younger Actress 1992 Jensen Buchanan: Lead Actress 1996, 1997 Amy Carlson: Supporting Actress 1998 Rhonda Ross Kendrick: Younger Actress 1998 Two things stand out to me: No win for Beverlee McKinsey. 1996 the most successful year. We know by then JFP had the block voting game on lock.
  5. @MLH Thank you for the link.
  6. Yet Frank Dicopolous was employed for 22 years.
  7. What blog? There are some GL-related SOD articles I've been trying to find online but no luck so far.
  8. I remember a Victor/Traci scene where Victor told Traci he considers her the heart of the Abbott family. I think that was sometime in the last 5 years or so.
  9. Exactly. Do not give Josh Griffith ideas.
  10. I couldn't find an episode guide for The Price is Right anywhere but I know of these CBS daytime soap themed episodes. February 1-5, 1982: One of the episodes this week was a Y&R themed episode w/ appearances from David Hasselhoff and Terry Lester. June 27-30, 1983: Items up for bid, pricing games, and showcases w/ appearances from Michael Damian, Steven Ford, Frank Runyeon, Meg Ryan, Bill Beyers, Rory Calhoun, Michael Tylo. February 4-7, 1985: Showcases w/ appearances from Eric Braeden, Melody Thomas Scott, Eileen Fulton, Gregg Marx, Todd Curtis, Bradley Lockerman, Judi Evans, Vincent Irizzary. December 1, 1992: Showcase celebrating Y&R 5000th episode w/ appearances from Peter Bergman and Melody Thomas Scott. AFAIK there were no CBS primetime soap themed episodes of TPiR.
  11. I think Earl Hamner producing/writing was reduced somewhat in season 5. I also think Earl Hamner was not producing/writing at all in the final four seasons. Earl Hamner involvement being reduced/eliminated probably is why the changes in direction in the final five seasons (season 5 Dallas with grapes/Miami Vice hybrid, seasons 6 and 7 high-octane action-packed thrill ride, seasons 8 and 9 off the rails plus budget mode). Falcon Crest had all the ingredients for a great show but the execution squandered the potential and I think network interference and backstage drama played a big part in that.
  12. It just occured to me that Michael Zaslow and Kim Zimmer were both on One Life to Live in 1983. I was never a ABC soap viewer so I wouldn't know if their characters interacted.
  13. @GL Oldtimer 29:25 start of segment talking about MZ being written off GL.
  14. I remember all the thirst for Tyler on this board. I don't know what Redaric Williams is up to now, but I could picture him on Beyond the Gates.
  15. Practically every episode this month I've been like "what is this mess?"
  16. 1998 Daytime Emmys GL got five acting nominations: Cynthia Watros (Lead Actress), Kim Zimmer (Lead Actress), Grant Aleksander (Supporting Actor), Amy Ecklund (Supporting Actress), Kevin Mambo (Younger Actor). As we all know, Cynthia Watros ended up pulling off the biggest upset ever.
  17. Hahaha, yes it does I don't think that would've fit on CBS in the CSI/NCIS/Criminal Minds/Hawaii Five-0/Blue Bloods era though.
  18. Previous thread is now archived. Updated as of 2025. Names in italics are those no longer with us. Actors/Actresses with 10 or More Daytime Emmy Nominations. Years in bold are wins. 19. Falcon Crest first season felt more like a family drama. I thought of it as wealthy Waltons in modern day California wine country. I don't think Earl Hamner wanted a Dallas with grapes/James Bond hybrid but that's what seasons 2-4 were. I wonder how much of the shift in direction was CBS mandated. CBS should have realized that Earl Hamner was not David Jacobs or Aaron Spelling or Bill Bell. Family drama was more Earl Hamner style, not soap opera.
  20. Dallas at its heart and roots was a western, but it got corporate and glamorous in response to Dynasty blowing up.
  21. @DeeVee You're welcome. Yes, no mention of CBS and P&G either. 1999 Daytime Emmys didn't have an In Memoriam segment but when they did that segment honoring all previous Lead Actor/Actress winners, MZ clips got a lot of cheers.
  22. @alwaysAMC You're welcome. I can't remember if this was posted here before.
  23. Remember too that Knots Landing was a community-based show so it didn't have the same limitations in storytelling and expanding the canvas as the family/business conflict-based shows did.
