Y&R: Old Articles
Thanks as always @YRfan23!!! I had watched the 2/14/94 episode first up and to my delight it’s the episode where Ashley received the painting from Mari Jo. I also recall that Colleen birthday party clear as day 27 years later; I always felt the show did criminally underuse Greg Wrangler as Steve at the time. I was eventually disappointed by Brad & Lauren’s breakup but here I still see them as a very viable couple, powerful interlopers if you will. And it reminds me of what a waste B&B in time eventually did to Lauren, we still see Scotty here yet never did on B&B. Still utilizing Douglas was a fun and good thing, but who was Marvin Oakley? I thought Cole’s father was eventually proven to be the notorious Rick Daros.

Y&R March 2021 Discussion Thread
Whoever mentioned Phyllis is being used as comic relief is absolutely correct. Those Phyllis/Lauren scenes talking about Sally’s search results on the Abbotts felt like something off an old ABC TGIF sitcom or a Nickelodeon show. The one shoulder dresses being used on Phyllis & Lauren are silly as well.

Business mogul cast on YR
Oh lord that was Kimberly’s DID story that went off the rails right? Then he was wasted with the recast Ariana Chase. I had completely blocked that out lol.

I always wished the show had added a couple more Hughes characters via John and Marian Hughes. Always been fascinated what the story was with them but there is such little info! I think someone here early mentioned Edie would also returned for a couple holidays in addition to the 1963 return.

Days: March 2021 Discussion Thread
I found it odd the show didn’t pick up where it left off with Friday’s Sami episode. This is as bad as Y&R not following up on the cliffhangers.

Business mogul cast on YR
Not a bad choice to cast but I hope they don’t squander Burgi’s potential and talent. I loved him on Desperate Housewives and he’s aged very well since his One West Waikiki days(as well as his AW days). But I’m not going to get my hopes up.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
Does anyone remember this storyline? I know 1987-89 is messy: Played by Camilla More (Gillian, and later Grace, left) and Carey More (Grace, right) - Real life twin sisters. Gillian had Grace come to town New Years Eve, 1986 to pretend to be Gillian, while Gillian killed Emma Marshall. Gillian framed Kim for the murder, so she could have Shane. Gillian was caught when Shane noticed she was acting quite strange. On a trip to London, Shane found Grace and brought her to Salem to help him catch Gillian. Once Gillian was taken to jail, Camilla More began to play the role of Grace, and Carey More left Days. Grace was later killed by the Riverfront Knifer.

Which Soaps Did You Stop Watching, Come Back to, and Couldn't Enjoy Anymore?
Days. I enjoyed the show for almost twenty years even through the hell of Langan, Reilly 2.0, and “Touch the skies” but it was the 2011 reboot that killed my interest in Days overall. I think it was EJ and Sami having sex while mourning their briefly presumed dead son for the sake of shock value and what not along with the other ridiculous stories that reboot brought. I tuned again in 2014 for Sami’s exit but nothing else interested me on the show. Watched in 2015 for the 50th anniversary and up through Stefano’s death but then deaths of Will & Bo left me feeling cold. The final straw for me was Chase raping Ciara when I felt Chase had so much potential. The Aiden stuff was whack. I started watching Days again last July when I heard Sorel was back as Vivian as was Sami coming to crash Nicole’s wedding. The show hasn’t been too bad, favorite story by far has been the Gwen story but that recently ended with the death of Laura Horton and now Cady is gone as Jennifer. And Ben Weston is an albatross to the show.

Soaps You Could Never Get Into (It's Not You, It's Me)
Never got too much into the main ABC soaps of AMC, OLTL, and GH. I really appreciate the shows and have read about them and watched various clips out of interest however when I tried to get into them they came off as just so romcom/dramedy to me. I think I enjoyed Loving the most when I watched it at the time the most probably because of the 30 minute timeslot. Didn’t bother with PC(not to mention it always aired late at night where I lived). I watched Ryan’s Hope on SoapNet the early years were amazing but I felt the show lost steam as it went on. I would have stuck with just the CBS soaps really had it not been for Days. Days, at least in the 90s and 00’s always felt like me a P&G soap from another planet. 😁 As for AW when I first watched it seemed like a fun little show as the main story at the time was Cristy Carson having a body count but I never grew any real affection for it until after cancellation.

Wow, speaking of 1997 I was combing the vault to see what was new and lo and behold clips of Sarah Aldrich as Victoria have finally surfaced! I haven’t seen anything of her well, since 1997 lol and that brief glimpse we saw last summer when Malcolm & Olivia’s wedding aired. She comes off as a bit of a ditz and was very wooden for the most part during her appearance at the pool party but at least her death stare to Diane was funny.

Sunset Beach Discussion Thread
LOL I was reading that and almost spit out my tea I'm sipping on when I saw that about Elaine and Paula. I am wondering what that means as well about the "acting" part as I liked Elaine and Paula and both Laura Harring and Leigh Taylor-Young are both competent successful actresses so I wonder what the exact issue was unless they just completely ran out of story for the two that fast. Especially since I felt Elaine was so vital to the Sunset Beach canvas it was odd not to even bring her back with AJ came to town, that would have been interesting. 1. That Ricardo vs. Antonio story sounds like total overkill even for Beach. Sure a massive fight between the two but for Ricardo to become evil and try to murder Antonio? Glad it never played out. 2. Lisa Guerrero returning? Would have been a complete disaster as if her first go around wasn't bad enough. 3. I agree, having no story projections or thought method is pretty bad storytelling for soaps which is I think Beach suffered a lot during its final year. Unless DePriest & Whitesell had finally run out of soap clichés and recycled ideas to use lol. I suppose Meg Bennett is also responsible, disappointing for someone who was once a Bell protégé if she didn't plan out storylines either. 4. There was too much Meg. I would have to say Annie was the most interesting leading female character on the show as well. 5. Didn't anyone actually like(or watch) the Amy/Sean/Emily/Brad stuff at all? I barely remember any of it aside from them just hanging out at the beach and getting into surf competitions, it was all FF material to me. 6. Tomlin must have been off his rocker when it came to diminishing Kathleen Noone at the time. They ended up having to work together on Passions when Tomlin served as Director. Which reminds me Tomlin also had to work with Leigh Taylor-Young as well. 7. Just hilarious about Seidman's remarks about Y&R😄 If I recall right Seidman worked on GL & ATWT after Beach ended. She reunited with Tomlin & Whitesell for their 2008-11 Days run which probably explains her fond memories for writing there. Later she followed Josh Griffith around from Hollywood Heights, to Y&R, and Days again before Sussman brought her back. Her scripts were fair to mediocre at best, so I'm guessing she's talking about her Y&R exit when she left out after Sussman was dismissed and not when she first followed Griffith out.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Killing Jennifer Munson off instead of recasting if Ferrin wanted to leave was the point I can pinpoint where I think was the beginning of the end for ATWT. All for Emmy bait, ratings, and a hoping in vain that Spencer Grammer as Lucy would work out(it did not). I'd say Jennifer's death is to ATWT what Frankie's death is to AW and Maureen's death was to GL. Just never recovered. BTW was watching a 1997 episode recently and Bob & Chris were complaining about how bad DeWitt Cereals tasted even though they ate it every morning or something. It was rather bizarre small talk but I found it odd whoever the dialogue writer for the ep went out of their way to mention DeWitt, this occurring during the Demorest/Walsh/Brez era.

LOL! If there was ever a time to reintroduce the two that was the time in 1994. It would have definitely given Jill a lot more to do than an umpteenth divorce from John. Plus I could definitely see Chuckie being a JT type character and have a lustful affair with an older woman(Lauren? Mari Jo?) while Jennifer would have definitely been an Brittany Hodges-type character.

Mysteriously dropped Storylines
What happened to the Grant family was a tragic mess. If I recall right David’s return in 1998 came right after Charles had his heart attack to a faulty Spaulding produced + Santos mob funded pacemaker. For a brief moment there seemed to be momentum; David swearing revenge, Vicki Brandon revealing herself as a Spaulding, David finding Vivian getting comfort in Griffin’s arms(!) and arguing with Marcus, Vivian being a victim by the Nursery Rhyme Stalker and then absolutely nothing came out of it at all. Worse still is that Marcus & Dahlia lasted a lot longer into 1998 than I remember from what I have seen, still randomly popping up at parties and what not. Carl if you ever want a sad laugh with SoapCentral profiles on characters who got non exits you should read the end of Ellen Stewart’s profile on ATWT.

Mysteriously dropped Storylines
Actually, we do know why he dropped Morgan’s return: Thudley got Hunter Tylo back! However I hated the show wasted Buxton’s talent like that, as I think that has been her last daytime appearance.

Mysteriously dropped Storylines
Interesting that happened the same year as the mysterious psychic that called in the Cole/Victoria/Ryan/Nina quad as well as the Dina/John/Audrey North story that felt so rushed and dropped.

LeMay gave that interview back in the late 90s shortly after his time as a story consultant in the mid-90’s for AW I’m going on have to dig up that one up, I believe it’s the same interview where he kind of trashed Robin Strasser while he was huffing & puffing.

The Media/Journalism Thread
A round of +1’s too all! This reminds me of what a deeply confusing, yet fascinating time the early 00’s were. In soaps, in politics, in fashion, in pop culture...When all is said and done, it’s hard to even say how this era will be remembered. Haven’t seen too much nostalgia for it at all that’s for sure. Speaking of media from that era Justin Timberlake is also getting well deserved major pushback as well between Janet Jackson Appreciation Day for the Super Bowl and the Spears documentary as the media has been so easy on Timberlake to give him free passes: https://www.buzzfeed.com/ehisosifo1/justin-timberlake-britney-spears-problematic-moments No wonder his marriage to Jessica Biel is allegedly on the rocks at the moment.

All My Children Tribute Thread
Gloria Marsh profile: 1991: Nurse Gloria Marsh arrived in Pine Valley with revenge on her mind. Her fiancé, Craig Lawson, had left her with no reason and pile of bills. She got wind of his latest plot to siphon off mourning widow Dixie Cooney’s vast trust fund. Craig begged Gloria to keep silent. She would only agree if Craig agreed to continue their affair. Things began to change when Gloria actually met the kindhearted Dixie. She felt guilt over her affair. But already, she was in too deep and did not know how to find her way out. 1992: When Gloria’s involvement with Craig was revealed, she became an outcast in her new town. While getting drunk at a roadside bar, Gloria met Will Cortlandt. She flirted openly with Will but was not expecting anything more. Will was not about to be led on, and raped her that night. When Will was found dead in his apartment, Gloria was among the many suspects investigated. Gloria took refuge in Wildwind as personal nurse to the recovering Angelique Marick. Gloria’s new position in Wildwind helped to her to recover some of the dignity she had lost in as a result of her very public indiscretions. 1993: Gloria began working at the hospital again. There, she met kind Stuart Chandler. Gloria fell in love with Stuart. But, his brother Adam Chandler had other plans for her. Adam promised to give Gloria everything that she ever wanted. Gloria tried to be content with her relationship with Stuart, but Adam was always in the back of her mind. On the day she was to marry Stuart, Gloria admitted that she had feelings for Adam. Instead, she and Adam married on his yacht, Fidelity. But Adam and Gloria’s happiness met an early hurdle. Adam experienced paralysis as a result of a car accident. Adam hired Alec McIntyre to take care of his affairs as he recovered. Alec shamelessly flirted with Gloria. She did her best to keep true to her marital vows. One night, Alec and Gloria were stranded in a snowstorm. At Adam’s cabin, Gloria gave in to temptation. Alec promised that he would leave town after they made love. Only, Alec liked the new arrangement and reneged on his promise. 1994: Gloria thought Adam was missing. Really, he had faked his disappearance upon learning of her affair with Alec. He was masquerading at Chandler Mansion as Stuart. When Gloria found out the truth, she plotted her own revenge. Upon Adam’s miraculous return, they were to remarry in a lavish ceremony at the Valley Inn. At the ceremony, Gloria told Adam that she would not marry him if he were the last man alive. At that moment, a tornado came crashing through. Gloria watched as the tornado destroyed the inn. At the end of day, Gloria announced that she would be leaving Adam. But the break was not as clean as she hoped. She was now pregnant with his child. 1995: Gloria was devastated when her baby, Anna Claire Chandler, died soon after childbirth. In a psychotic state, she blamed Adam for the baby’s death. Adam caught her trying to poison him. Gloria went to Oak Haven to recover from her loss. 1996: Gloria comforted Tad after Dixie left him. Gloria was the only person in Pine Valley Dixie had remained in contact with. Gloria felt guilty because she began to have feelings for Tad. 1997: Gloria had fallen in love with Tad. But she could not get past his history with other women. When Gloria found out Liza Chandler was pregnant, she wrongly came to the conclusion that Tad was the child’s father. Gloria turned to her old friend Dimitri. Dimitri had just broken up with Erica Kane. Both friends learned to lean on each other. Dimitri surprised Gloria with a proposal. She accepted though her heart still belonged to Tad. Dimitri told Gloria they were going to his native home in Hungary, Vadzel for their long awaited honeymoon. Really, Dimitri was on the run with Madelyn Grey. He had just learned that Madelyn was not his daughter. Dimitri’s brother Edmund Grey and Tad snuck into Vadzel to reclaim Madelyn. Tad convinced Gloria to read the paternity test. When she realized Madelyn was Edmund’s daughter, she begged Dimtiri to give up the child. Gloria remained in Vadzel to comfort Dimitri, but he pushed his new wife away. 1998: At the first annual Crystal Ball, Gloria watched Dimitri confront Tad and Edmund at gunpoint over his embarrassment at Vadzel. Gloria stopped Dimitri from hurting them. After a heated argument, she told her husband their marriage was over. Gloria tried to clear her mind at the hospital. A storm hit Pine Valley and caused a major bus accident. As Gloria tried to tend to the victims, con man Ryan Lavery tried to make it appear as if he was on the bus too so as to cash in on the settlement. Gloria saw through Ryan’s act. But before she could do anything, Dimitri was admitted after a tree branch at Wildwind fell on him. He was in need of blood, and the hospital was out. Gloria realized Ryan was a match. She threatened to turn Ryan in to the authorities if he did not give her the donation she needed. Gloria stood vigil over Dimitri until he awoke from his coma. When he awoke, she gave him her wedding ring, and left Pine Valley forever.
