  1. Sara Gilbert was MVP last season, but something’s off about her this year IMO. Particularly with the timing and delivery, She’s not as natural or comfortable. Lecy OTOH has really stepped up.
  2. I’m pretty sure that The Voice has usually led in the demos by a wide margin, since it skews a lot younger, but DWTS had usually led in total viewers. That didn’t mean much, but now ABC can’t even claim those bragging rights. (Of course, DWTS was many seasons in when The Voice premiered, so it wasn’t a buzzy show anymore.) NBC will soon run into the same issue with viewer fatigue from too many Voice cycles. It’s still good at launching shows, as Manifest and New Amsterdam both have done well this season.

  4. It’s weird that article doesn’t mention the poor demo ratings, which I’m sure was the deciding factor. They should have only done one cycle a season a long time ago.
  5. Pitchfork’s 100 Best Songs of 2018 on Spotify
  6. LOL, it kills me that we have to follow a British newspaper for a story on an American tennis figure, coach of the No. 1 American men’s tennis player and commentator on an American TV network, who was arrested on American soil, with American tennis players coming to his defense. Hilarious. However this shakes out, I’ve lost the remaining scrap of respect I had for tennis media.
  7. This guy and his flexibility...OhEmGee.
  8. And I know people loved them some David Andrew McDonald, but Edmund was so obviously a big queen flouncing around devouring all scenery in a 20-mile radius. It made it that much more insulting that soaps weren’t investing in actual gay characters. And then there was Carmen and the Santos family...the show had just changed so much so fast.
  9. Same. It felt like GL had been cancelled and rebooted as something barely recognizable.
  10. I think time slot has helped a lot too. More people are at home on Sundays, so live virewing has increased, and at least in the States, it helps that TWD is in steep decline, the female-focused CW genre shows did sorta meh, Outlander isn’t as fresh, and HBO and Showtime didn’t have any big fall launches. Network programming on Sunday nights has become dismal, aside from all things NFL. Doctor Who benefits from that. Most of the new interest has come from younger women, while interest from younger men has stagnated or even decreased. They’ll need to figure out how to either get the younger men back (doubtful) or stem any losses from women, who’ve been pretty loyal this season.
  11. Yeah. I wonder if Toby Whithouse was ever in contention to be showrunner. His episodes, while never my favorites, were certainly levels better than Chibnall ever produced as a writer for DW, and Being Human proved he could do rich character work with a lot of humor. But I suppose the massive success of Broadchurch trumped all of that.
  12. The gap year has been confirmed. I suppose BBCA better hope Killing Eve’s second season really breaks out ratingswise (a possibility) because their biggest show will be off the air for all of 2019 save for the Jan. 1 special. First look at the New Year’s special.
