B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
Was just about to mention this. We already have these episodes online. It'*s Felicia's swan song... This time period was AMAZING. I'm currently watching the last 1993 episodes uploaded by DAYS22 from January 1993. What a treat: Darla as Camille, Taylor as likable as I remember her, Sheila's desperation to temper with Bridget's paternity test!

I think I once heard that Ethan Wayne wanted out and therefore left B&B around the two year mark. Like you, I also felt some good chemistry and story potential with Storm and Margo. Storm also rightfully disliked Clarke because he badmouthed him to Kristen - so it all made a lot sense.

You may add to our list: Judith Borne as Angela Forrester in January 1989 as well. She was on recurring status the first couple of months. And MAJOR news: Darlene Conley's very first episode has just been uploaded to YouTube. I have waited YEARS for this! Sally Spectra made her debut in #452 in January 1989.

Back to the 1988 episodes from AmySilence: unlike lots of internet clamor on the first airdate of Sally Spectra, I can now confirm that it was NOT in December 1988. I just saw the very last episode of 1988 (#441) and there is absolutely no sign of Sally or Clarke being pressured by his old boss yet. The lovely Darlene Conley probably started taping in December 1988 because I have seen an episode in the 450-range with Sally which should pop on YouTube any day now. It’s gonna be interesting how much set-up there is gonna be because the last mention of shady knock-of rival Spectra Fashions was in Spring 1988... I always assumed there was a much more detailed path to the Spectras, yet Clarke is already super busy with business ambitions at Forrester Creations and keeping Margo’s baby a secret from Kristen - only his (former) employer Spectra is no longer an issue .

+1 The biggest blunder was the total waste of the Grant character (as well as bringing back Clarke and then not using him in 1997!?) as a total controll freak despite the obvious chemistr between Charles Grant & KKL. Thankfully, the Grant&Macy pairing followed which was a joy and provided much the previous love tringale around Grant lacked. Unfortunately, Brad Bell decided to kill Grant off instead of playing it along a little longer.

Notwithstanding that we have seen many angles on how use a fashion show as a story catalyst, I think under today's budget restraint environments these biiiiig fashion shows are a thing of the past. I liked how they tried something different with the Monte Carlo Mini Swimwear (!?) fashion show in 2017 (?), but that said: there is no excuse not to occasionally have business taking place at Forrester Creations. This year in particular has been so bad with the focus on the baby switch that absolutely nothing else has been happening. This used to be way better in the past. Speaking of the past: I've reached episode 430 on the wonderful AmySilence YT uploads and by now, Ronn Moss is just ONE episode shy of raking in 200 episodes in the year of 1988 which no doubt is going to happen as there are roughly 15 more episodes until we ring in 1989. I thought air hogging in the 200+ per year appearances range was a rather modern thing of the 2000s (on GH, Passions and B&B!?), but apparently even Bill Bell was not immune to this. The show was still a lot diverser than it is now, but Ridge is pretty much like Hope in that year of the show. There hardly is an episode where is not gracing the screen. Interesting!

#401 should be November 1, 1988 I'm currently at episode #390 and stories are picking up: Margo/Clarke/Kristen is delicious to watch, Donna/Bill is touching despite the nude camp and Lt. Burke is looming over Stephanie's head. Fascinating enough is the fact that every 5th episode has a location shoot at the Bell Estate/Forrester Mansion which looks nice but as grand as later location shoots.

Something what struck me watching 1987 was that many characters which left quite a legacy or were brought back later on like Katie, Rocco or Bill Sr. TOTALLY get the shaft back then. They had some story but it was really wallflower-material to fill gaps. Especially, Bill & Margo felt like ROYALLY wasted.

Season 1 is really a mixed bag. It's NOT good by any standards. For the longtime viewer however, it is still precious, thanks to the likes of La Flannery and some iconic first encounters and set-ups because there is lots of groundwork for the show's main characters. Up until Clarke's arrival it is basically skip-able IMO. I wasn't too gripped by Caroline's rape for instance. Season 2 starts to pick up steam and is good soap. Greatness is not often found, yet the characters get more life (and useless characters like Katie are more or less dropped), the production values improve drastically (probably due to foreign licensing sales...) and suddenly there are remotes, hospital sets get nicer etc. The upload by AmySilence on YT is up to episode 409 right now. The Dutch Streaming Site is already in the 500s, though. And Sally Spectra should pop up around #420 or so. Therefore, there is quite a good reason to binge those classic B&B episodes. The picture quality alone makes it GREAT watching and even the weaker episodes are at least on par with 2019 soaps if not better. By 1989 B&B is REALLY watchable and begins to feel bold, beautiful and campy.

Has anyone been able to download / save those two episodes from YT in decent quality??? All downloading sites I know off, fail with those two episodes and give error messages. Any way to trick them into allowing a download? 'cause I've been saving all of AmySilence's uploads and would hate to miss out on those two eps. # 397 and #398 ???

Some more names for your cast list... Or maybe you have them listed with the actor portraying them. If so, I'd appreciate any hint... 1988 Cynthia Driscoll, an important buyer from New York in October with lost of dialogue but no on-screen credit!? (Black) Lead Forrester Model Fawn had a lot of episodes and even some dialogue Gayle was another Forrester Creations assistant side by side with Trish in October Dr. Garrett, Ridge's first ER doctor after getting shot in September Dr. Marley as yet another doctor who popped around the hospital in October Ramon - Nick Preston's butler who for some reason never got proper billing!?

Problem is that Videoland is RTL Groups local streaming service and not one of the big US ones... there also might be local laws that make it easier to release such content in the Netherlands than in other countries. Still, it’s amazing that such high quality source material is sitting in the world and the Dutch are the only ones who get access to it. speaking of trivial observations: interestingly enough the writers strike material which lasted for quite a long time in 1988 had IMO absolutely zero impact on the storytelling. While I’m pretty sure that the outlines of Bill Bell were already in place in spring 1988 it was surprising how crisp the scripts were. One has to Inder who wrote these... On the other hand: as soon as the writing staff returned to the credits the first 10 episodes were REALLY bad. There were looong flashbacks and the writing was terrible. Basically everyone gabbed about Thorne and Caroline’s cancelled trip to Europe for the entire time. Apart from that and the sudden exit of Beth and Stephen I don’t think that much was altered due to the strike. Maybe your impressions while viewing will be different, though?

Wooooohooo! This website is a dream come true. The crystal picture quality and most fo all the complete episode by episode nostalgia... Speaking of which: I'm currently watching #364 and am heavily surprised by the blink and you missed it location shoots. They had Brooke driving up to the Bell family mansion ah Forrester Mansion (which is a clip that was on YT before and used in flashbacks later on...), Brooke and Eric talking in the yard, Beth and Eric meeting in Marina Delray (?) and now Stephen and Storm had a talk outside the Logan house in the Valley which I had never heard of. I assume that the show started to REALLY take off internationally back then and that's why they amped the LA factor? 'cause these remotes were so short and pointless for the most part that you could have easily filmed them in the studio. And while the camera work was good, the sound quality was rather meh.

My best guess is that they are "around" but not available on YouTube. The soap trader/video collector, where the last bunch of 1992/1993 episodes we were spoiled with on this board came from, sure has those episodes from Fall 1993. If the Dutch video streaming site continues to showcase classic B&B we might get to see these highlight shows in a mere 5 years. LOL EDIT: I just checked: Videoland.nl has reached March 1989 by now. episode 489 was just posted. 8 more episodes and they have reached season 3 which they will hopefully upload as well.
