Nothing against Diane McBain, and her fabulous side hairdo, but Dee Dee is such a poor man's Marilee Stone. I wonder if Fern Fitzgerald was on vacation or otherwise occupied during McBain's two episodes.

I've been making my way through the 1981-82 season, and Donna promoting her book cracked me up. The cover of Sam Culver: The Political Years looks so cheap, like it was a self-publication job. I guess they weren't going to pay for John McIntire's likeness. I initially thought How to Save a Fortune was an inside joke, and if I zoomed in, I'd see it was "written" by Leonard Katzman. Nope, it's an actual book, by Barry Kaye. Geesh, you'd think they would have done this at a nicer venue than the local bargain store.

ARTICLE: Hank Northrop, Son of Lynn Herring and the Late Wayne Northrop, Joins ‘Days of our Lives’
Yeah, no snark* from me, this is awesome. *Unless they do something cutesy and stupid, like have him be Roman's long-lost kid with Lisanne Gardner.

This one I picked up from a long ago YouTube comment. Tracy & Ashton, GH -- Trash. I suppose Penny & Jeff, ATWT, could be "Jenny" or "Peff."

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
I see. I had a similar experience in 1999, where I thought it would be fun to follow Passions from the start. I've also mentioned how Loving (and later The City and Port Charles) was the one ABC soap that my grandma never got into. Yes, I remember that being discussed.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
The City ended two years before Another World did (unless you mean that AW no longer aired in your market). Speaking of airings, I wonder if there was any serious consideration to having Loving air between All My Children and One Life to Live starting in 1984. I think it could have helped Loving, but maybe ABC didn't want another head-to-head with AMC and The Young and the Restless*. And perhaps ABC thought there was too big a risk of viewers skipping Loving and changing to As the World Turns or the second half of Days of Our Lives. *And Search for Tomorrow, but AMC-Y&R would have been the big battle. Still, though, I keep wondering about whether it was mulled, and if the decision was strictly in-house (By ABC only? Did Agnes get a say?) or if there was (wait for it) focus group testing.

Yup, Sid and Linda didn't sleep together. Now I wish I'd have kept track of everybody's relationships.

Finished "Cricket." If I ever met Joan van Ark, my nerdy fan question would be "Did Val and Rusty have sex?" Also, Karen offering Joe her hypothetical eggroll makes me wonder if there was ever a time anyone considered Michele Lee for Gypsy.

ALL: General Retro Soap Discussion
I think the absolute best case scenario would have been if she got out of daytime. Now, whether she would have succeeded in primetime is anyone's guess, but it would have at least have spared us the attempts at reinventing various shows (and the domino effect this would have on daytime). (See above.) I can't answer this one with any authority. From what I understand, she was excellent at finding the right music for a scene. And she did inspire some loyalty or admiration from actors.

Somehow I had forgotten about the three-hander episode with the McCleary brothers returning to their flood-damaged home. It's ... well, a choice.

They were different churches. You're thinking of both the abandoned church in Delaware where Gilbert took Ava and Sandy and the Glass Chapel outside Corinth where Trisha & Trucker's last wedding (and later, Trisha's funeral) took place. Lorraine joined The City in February 1996. Poor Charles -- losing two women within months of one another. @Kane came up with a decent way to justify this: that All My Children is a reality show to the Loving characters. There were also at least two other instances like this: Ally watching AMC while avoiding going to school at the start of her pregnancy, and Shana looking forward to catching up on AMC (specifically scenes with Trevor) while on bed rest during her pregnancy.
