  1. I do think Grigor should contact Vallverdu, it couldn't hurt right? I listened to parts of a podcast by some British sports journalists and one proposed that he thinks Andy should reconnect with Lendl while the other was adamant that it wasn't going to happen. I know names are being floated out there as potential coaches, including Martina Navratilova but this is all rumor as far as I'm concerned. Did you hear about Shia LeBeouf playing John McEnroe in a future film about Borg and McEnroe? ‘You cannot be serious': Shia LaBeouf to play John McEnroe in ‘Borg/McEnroe’
  2. Unsurprising news of the day: Berdych parts ways with Vallverdu. https://t.co/BBAkBEHlcF
  3. I just saw Mark Pinter (ATWT, AW) in an episode of Grace and Frankie, Season 2.
  4. I saw almost all of the Serena vs. Madison match and most of the Andy vs. Novak match. Madison came out firing in the first set and Serena, perhaps stunned, started out lagging behind at first but by the 5th game, really raised her level. I don't know the last time I've seen that many aces on clay. Always in the back of my mind though, I wondered whether Madison could keep playing at that pace and high level (she couldn't) and if her level dropped, what she would do as a backup plan. The first set was very competitive, high level of tennis and the tiebreak had a certain tension to it until mid-way through. When Serena secured that minibreak close to the end of the set and then closed it out, I wondered whether she'd hit with a freer hand in the second and she did. Madison didn't completely go away in the second set but Serena started to run away with it before Madison managed to get a foot into the 2nd set and you got a sense that there was slim chance for Madison to get the match away from Serena, although it was still entertaining to the end. Andy vs. Novak, what can I say? Many were speculating that Kei (who fought Novak all the way to the end of their SF) actually provided the assist to Murray by wearing Novak down- I tend to agree with this. Novak seemed frustrated in his SF against Kei as well. I missed the moment he banged his racquet against his ankle but apparently he meant to bang it against the bottom of his shoe and in frustration he banged it hard, only he accidentally banged his ankle- hard. I don't know what Novak's deal is but the other day, during a match he shoved the chair umpire's arm aside while the umpire was pointing out a mark (which is against the rules- unwelcome touching of an official, player or venturing to the opposite part of the court when you're not supposed to, are all grounds for penalty). Novak could've, should've been fined (can you imagine what would've happened if Nick Kyrgios had pushed Carlos Bernardes' arm aside like that? Today, Novak hurls expletives at a different chair umpire, saying that he doesn't want to play because the conditions are f*cking dangerous- Andy didn't seem to mind playing out there. People also speculated what the response might be had it been a woman carrying on like that- most said, some pundit probably would have made a remark about hormones and 'that time of the month' so some people started remarking on Nolé's hormones. I don't know what his problem is but I hope his circle and his fans stop demanding that Nolé be liked as much as Roger or Rafa or whoever because if it hasn't happened at this point, with his tantrums this week, trust me, it ain't gonna happen at this point. @Soapsuds, I really hope the French is wide open this year, particularly on the Men's side. I'd love for a first time winner to take it. Even though I'm not too keen on the French crowd because of their past rude behavior, considering the horrific things they've endured over the past year, I'm hoping that a certain acrobatic Frenchman can make one helluva run this year. Tennis has been so crazy this year, that actually makes perfect sense
  5. That is a very colorful take (lol) to say the least but this damn election season feels like it's going on ad infinitum for I'm open to all the interesting and entertaining takes I can get, especially if they are grounded in actual fact. This election season is so long!
  6. Great trailer @CassieFan. The show does look interesting and NBC is in desperate need of as many shows with potential as they can grab.
  7. I loved Finn Carter and Sierra during the Marland years! Sierra was such a subtle character but the development of her character from 85, when she first appeared to the end of 86' was so dramatic when you actually think about it, but it was a gradual change that was rooted in story, which made it so believable. From those scenes of Sierra being manhandled by Tonio and wanting to hide the bruises to her response to Lucinda's plea for her to reconsider divorcing Tonio where Sierra saucily says "If you think he's such a great husband, why don't you marry him?!" And Sierra admitting that (in marrying Tonio) she made the biggest mistake of her life and she was trying to fix it. So you went from a character who was once easily manipulated by her mother, lied to and cheated on by her husband, to someone who creates and determines her own agency and under her own power, charts her own life course. That was some deft writing on Marland's part, which made it all the more sad how Sierra's character was torn up in '94 to facilitate Craig's budding relationship with Samantha. I know Finn wasn't returning to the show so something had to be done to resolve the issue of her marriage to Craig but considering the fact that Scott didn't even stay that much longer anyway and Kirk and Sam soon got together, I consider it kind of a waste what they did to both Craig and Sierra at this point-from then on, both characters became somewhat expendable. During the Marland years however, the character grew in esteem, albeit quietly.
  8. Did I mention that Novak got bageled in the first set of his match yesterday? Obviously, he recovered though. I never thought that Belluci would actually win that match.
  9. Yeah, I heard. He's supposed to play Davis Cup for Argentina. So far about 4 players (all males) are skipping the Olympics, Thiem, Feliciano Lopez are two of them that I remember immediately. Oh, Tomic is another.
  10. OMG! Goffin scores the double bagel over Tomas Berdych! I didn't see the match but I saw the score. WTF happened?! Berdych isn't just in a slump, it looks more like the beginning of a freefall! Unless, he just couldn't be bothered with Rome. In either case, not good for him.
  11. I don't know what to say about Dimitrov. He may need some time off, where he can assess his game and his desire to play the game, without the media spotlight. Maybe he needs a sports psychologist? He and Davin may not be working out but I also think there may be some deeper issues there. The Williams Sisters lost their doubles match, Venus actually slammed her racquet and got a warning for racquet abuse! Serena couldn't stop laughing at this because it's probably been like 20 years since Venus slammed a racquet and Serena is usually the one who smashes her racquet and gets the warning. At least Venus won her singles 1st round, Serena plays hers tomorrow. Nick Kyrgios called the bluff of some Australian Olympic official who threatened him and Tomic over the possibility of them not being picked for the team. Nick Kyrgios calls Australian Olympic chief's bluff over Rio snub threat Monfils lost to Belluci but he looked like he just wanted to have more time off . I think it's for the best. Hopefully he refreshes himself, stays off that ankle and resists the urge to do backflips or some crazy acrobatic moves as he's been known to do. Or this: I wish his coach wouldn't encourage him.
  12. His last name is Richmond. I didn't see anything about it becoming a series though. Oops, sorry about that. The change has been made. I read about it in a trade newspaper for film and TV, that the producers were looking at making a pilot episode with the possibility for a series in mind.
  13. Also on TV One, Tequan Richmod is set to appear in an original movie that looks as if it may become a series called Ringside.
  14. I was just about to ask whether anyone saw this. I only heard about it this morning.
  15. Yeah, the U.S. men haven't really done that well on clay since the days of Jim Courier, Michael Chang and Andre Agassi in the 80s and 90s. It usually been the U.S. women at least winning titles and making the clay court record looks respectacle. Speaking of a nation not doing well, the Italians are being dispatched really quickly. Mostly qualifiers and wildcards on the Men's side but already Sara Errani is out on the Women's side, bageled by Heather Watson in the 3rd set. The commentator wondered whether this might've been Errani's last singles match in the Foro Italico, as she has mentioned that this may be her last year. In tennis breakup news, Andy Murray has split from Amelie Mauresmo.
  16. Even though this theme was before my time, the first time I actually heard it, I thought it was such a beautiful theme song. I wished they would've used it or even an updated variation of it in the last few years of the show, even once, maybe for an Anniversary show or something.
  17. ESPN3's coverage has been getting worse. Madrid-they only covered women's matches through the Quaterfinals. The Italian Open, again only Women's matches and from what I see on the schedule coverage begins even later than in Madrid-on Wednesday! I wish Internet providers would do deals with Tennis TV for streaming and just forget about the networks, they're just useless, especially ESPN!
  18. JMO but to me, the theme songs appeared to get progressively worse . If they (the producers and execs) knew that ATWT was coming to an end, it might have been a nice nod to history if they could've done a modern variation of the very first theme the show had. If you replace the organs and put in a piano or a guitar, or even sped up the timing of the notes, the first theme could've lent itself surprisingly well to an updated version, in keeping with the 21st century but since I'm reading from comments that the show was cash strapped and couldn't even afford to update the previous openings, I guess they wouldn't have put the time nor the effort into anything requiring more thought or creativity. As a young child, I heard the 1980s theme and I have love for that theme but the first time I heard the original theme (this was after cancellation of the show), I got very misty and began to wish they had acknowledged it in some way before the show went off the air permanently.
  19. There are some terribly tough 1st round matches. The Italian Open draw is a clusterf*ck from several quarters.
  20. iva and john's son right so brother to lily, rose craig and margo so many possibles ughh caseys prison pal matt could have been mj Yeah, Iva & John's son. ATWT did not manage characters (especially young adult ones) very well in the last fifteen years of the show. This mismanagement cost the show a lot in the end.
  21. Thomas Hogstedt, who used to be Sharapova's coach at one time, coaches Keys. I never got the notion that Levine was longterm- it all seemed so casual. Keys, I'm not sure how much to expect from her on clay, she can get to balls but doesn't have the best footwork. Speaking of Sharapova, she sharpened her footwork a great deal because she used to be the least likely to win on clay (even describing herself as a 'cow on ice') but then she really improved her footwork mid-career, so maybe somewhere in the future Keys will improve her footwork so that she can be a future contender on red clay. One British journalist remarked that he thought that Grigor Dimitrov was in a dark emotional place and his meltdown in Istanbul was actually a cry for help. I think everyone was shocked that Sam Querrey got off to such a quick start but we all knew the tide would turn and it was only a question of 'when' not if it would happen. Berdych seems like he's standing still, which in Men's tennis means that he's actually regressing. I say that because I saw the score from his match against Murray and his matchup against Murray seems to tilt more and more heavily in Murray's favor, maybe because Vallverdu, who used to be in Murray's camp and now is in Berdych's camp, gives Murray some type of extra motivation. And they had that run in last year, I remember where Murray got ticked by something Berdych said under his breath (but loud enough for Murray to hear).
  22. Did ATWT ever bring back a teen MJ Dixon? If Aaron returned in his late teens so should've MJ.
  23. I get you, @marceline, when it's your city at the center of this, you want to make sure that you can in whatever way you can, make sure that things don't descend to hell.
  24. I know someone who lives in the Cleveland area who is seriously looking to schedule her vacation time so that she and her family can be out of town during the RNC. I live in a solidly Democratic state which voted twice for Obama, but Trump Towers are less than 30 miles from where I live but I hope that will provide enough distance from having to look at his ugly mug on campaign commericals. I don't watch much TV but I am only constantly and noticed quite a few campaign ads online in the last Congressional elections. Oddly enough, they were for Floridian politicians, which I don't leave anywhere near. No matter what state we all live in, I think we should all brace ourselves for the possibility of a particularly nasty general election.
  25. I wasn't watching regularly between '93-'01. Some years, I could only watch during the summer, others, I really only caught an episode here and there during the holidays, so a year like '94, which I'm trying to watch some episodes, is mostly unfamiliar to me. I have to say, though, '94 is pretty boring. There are pockets of interest, here and there but so many poorly written storylines. A real chore to watch. It's painfully obvious to me when the drop-off in quality began. '93 was depressing but at least the storylines had more interest than some of the pointless drivel I'm enduring watching '94. Nicolas Coster's horrible accent is grating, how did he get away with playing a Maltese?! One positive: Judy Reyes (Scrubs) appeared on an episode!
