  1. I also thought this in the very beginning of his campaign but now I'm not sure whether he actually believes he can pull this off, the nomination at least. Trump's success on the campaign trail is an indictment of America's political system, its media and yes, the populace that insists on scapegoating immigrants and people who are perceived as being 'different' for the society's (i.e. their own) ills.
  2. ^Yup, I read about the whole thing when it first occurred. The only thing I didn't know about were the divisions between Dawson and Ferrera. Makes me wonder whether this is emblematic of a growing schism within the Latino community or is it just relegated to certain highly politically active individuals? I have know of two people both Puerto Rican who support different candidates- one HRC, the other Bernie Sanders. The one who supports HRC only yesterday mentioned someone unfriending him on Social Media and I'm pretty sure it is due to his oblique criticisms of Sanders' policies. I haven't asked who it is but it makes me wonder whether it is the friend who is a Sanders supporter (lol).
  3. If only there were any competent daytime dramatic writers still left in the business, that Capitol reboot could've been amazing! Interesting dust-up between Rosario Dawson vs. Dolores Huerta/America Ferrera over Bernie Sanders. It's pretty well known that Ferrera supports HRC and I'm guessing that Huerta does too. It never crossed my mind who Dawson supported until this open letter but I'm going to go on ahead and guess that it's Sanders. All these frictions played out in the public sphere during this election cycle! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rosario-dawson/an-open-letter-to-dolores-huerta_b_9538994.html
  4. The Miami Open tournament needs serious improvements to its facilities and STAT! It is so rundown with lights that flare out right in the middle of matches at night, burnt PA systems, etc. And except for a few matches (I missed the Edmund match) most have been lackluster. I think many of the offcourt drama seems to be draining some of the players at the moment. What's going on off-court? Let's review the year thus far: Match-fixing scandals Drug/Doping Offenses Sexism/Equal Pay matter revisited and the ensuing clapback between players and fans and sports journalists alike and now...MURDER! * Then there's the DelPotro question--his loss to Zeballo after having his wrist evaluated by an oncourt physio. *Then there's the Federer question-- While Federer officially withdrew with a stomach virus, there were reports of him seen limping around the complex yesterday, so some are questioning the official reason for his withrawal. This year, tennis has more drama going on than any of the 4 remaining Daytime dramas combined!
  5. Involved with operatives of both Trump & Fiorina? I know that politics is a grimy business but what an cesspool the GOP is and oh so hypocritical! I personally don't give a jot about Ted Cruz (he can go far away), but I must admit that I am intrigued about this and you're right @xtr, The Enquirer has scooped a steady stream of stories about public figures that turned out to be true (although their methods are often brutal) since the 90s (w/that unfortunate story about Carol Burnett and her daughter's drug use) so I knew it was a good possibility that a lot of what they'd report could turn out to be true, perhaps even all of it.
  6. This is the first time I've hoped something like that was true. He's an odious, hateful sociopath and there has to be something really nasty in his past. I see that #CruzSexScandal is trending this morning. This could get very ugly...
  7. I'm not going to link it because it refers to the National Enquirer but supposedly, they've come out with an article proclaiming Ted Cruz to be the new Elliot Spitzer, hiring prostitutes and all.
  8. Robin Haase's coach has been arrested as a murder suspect! The Year of the Monkey is really hitting Tennis hard!
  9. Insightful editorial piece on why Rolling Stone has decided to endorse HRC: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/hillary-clinton-for-president-20160323?page=3
  10. It's not really the actual scenes that make the episode's content so graphic. I think that Dr. Samuel's ER talk with Margo describing in detail Margo's recollection of how she was raped and the physical actions of her rapist (talking about him getting scared when he heard the sirens causing him to pull out prematurely & ejaculate on her leg) and doing a semen analysis. I only watched ATWT sporadically during the time Diego was on, so I only remember that Emily was raped by him but I don't remember the details of it.
  11. Here's a sample of what went on yesterday on Twitter: http://www.sportscribe.ca/home/tennis-players-set-twitter-ablaze-over-sexism-row
  12. The Real Househusbands of the ATP are going at it on Twitter! Andy Murray vs. Stakhovsky Dusan Lajovic just told Rajeev Ram he'd rather watch Serena eat tacos than watch him play tennis! Andy Roddick put Darren Rovell, some sports blogger/journalist in his place. I have to go to bed but the fun is endless!
  13. Well, Serena mentioned that last year's Women's U.S. Open Final outsold the Men's pretty handily. When asked about it, Venus mentioned that her 2005 Final vs. Davenport was 45 minutes longer than the Men's Final that year. An American player, Nicole Gibbs, tweeted that there 10 1st Round retirements among the Men at last year's U.S. Open. So maybe the men can't handle best of 5 sets. By the way, Martina Navratilova said that the Year End Championships used to be best of 5 and that the women offered to do best of 5 but were told No. I'm making a guess that perhaps T.V. time dictated that no more time be allotted to an already tight schedule of matches. Frankly, Wimbledon is already a mess when one match goes over, I couldn't imagine everyone doing best of 5! I agree that the sport does go in cycles and sometimes one side carries the other. There was a time when Women's tennis outpaced the Men's and the likes of the Williams Sisters, Capriati, Hingis and yes, even Kournikova were all bringing higher ratings, more press and more butts in the seats, and most of the articles I was reading about the Men's game were decrying the era of 'Wham Bam' servebot tennis and how supposedly boring it was to watch versus the Women's game that had greater variety. Now that things are different people seem to want to dismiss all of it. There was a great article on tennis.com talking about the history of the split between the men and women's game. It's a very interesting backstory. Tennis is such a comparatively small-time sport compared to other sports but the fact that tennis, seemingly from the beginning, stressed egalitarianism sets it apart from most other sports and for that reason, I think equity makes sense for tennis. Too bad, all these disparate groups (the players don't even have a true union) don't have any unity and basically can't agree on much because I think it would have benefitted the sport much more if there were greater unity. If I have a chance between tickets to a best of 3 Simona Halep vs. Victoria Azarenka match or a best of 5 sets match between Gilles Simon vs. Sergei Stakhovsky, guess which match I'm going to pick?
  14. He tried to clarify his remarks in a Facebook post that says absolutely nothing. https://www.facebook.com/notes/novak-djokovic/better-game-for-all/1104463359606514 I think he expected other male players to fall in line and back him up (since many often bow down to him on the court) but Stan and Andy have already made statements that indicate that they disagree with Raymond and Novak, for that matter. This so called clarification seems quite pointless. And you're right, his remarks and his pointless Facebook post only gives credence to fans who say that he'll never be a beloved #1. Personally, I've never understood why that was so important to him. If he just kept playing and going about his business, winning matches, popularity might have been in the realm of possibility but he pushed it too hard and became way too ingratiating. I've always thought he was a bit disingenuous but I had to acknowledge what great strides he made in his game and I never begrudged him his success but these comments bring it all back as to why it took me so long to even come around to be able to even appreciate his climb to success. I had little respect for him for that fake MTO he took at Wimbledon early in his career, which took me years to get past it. Now these remarks are sending me straight back to how I used to feel about him. Too bad Tsonga couldn't get himself together long enough to take Nolé out at IW, although Tsonga has annoyed me lately, with his shotty play at Davis Cup and his recent chauvinistic remarks.
  15. OMG, #tampons4Novak is going around on Twitter today! I'm guessing it started circulating to mock his comments on women's hormones & tennis. Can't say he doesn't deserve being dragged.
  16. I remember there was a discussion about what a depressing year 1992 was on ATWT. I don't know whether the episode of Margo's rape is posted anywhere online but AsTheWorldStillTurns has posted it and it's labeled 8/3/92. Was this the only time ATWT issued a warning about the graphic nature of the content before airing an episode?
  17. Well, Serena had a down day on court and Azarenka played solid tennis but boy, did Milos ever get his ass handed to him c/o Djokovic!
  18. Marco Dapper (ex Carmine, Y&R) is going to be on Vh1's Hit the Floor.
  19. This seems to be quite common among European and Middle Eastern men. For awhile, it seemed to be less prevalent among Western Europe (it never left Eastern Europe) but it now seems to have made a comeback. The only one I recall is Dimitrov doing it and he did on the lips….teehee…..I recall another male player doing it as well but I can't recall who it was. I did a double take when I saw ML kiss FL. I am sure Judy Murray was jealous….LOL Definitely not bad on the eyes. Quite a few tennis bloggers seem to know him (and vice versa). Since I don't get Tennis Channel, you'll have to let me know how his segment goes over I sure will. Right now they are showing tennis doubles championship from Indian Wells…the American women won Up next is Pospisil and Sock in the men's double championship match. Yeah, I heard Coco and Bethanie won, that's great, especially since they just started playing together at Fed Cup and I think this was their 1st full tournament playing as a team. Well I know that Richard Gasquet and Monfils embrace at the net and it appeared that they kissed on the cheek (they've known each other since they were like 8 and 9 or something, I think). I also remember the Russian Davis Cup team years ago, the captain Shamil Tarpischev always kissed the players on the cheeks. I can't speak for Dimitrov but I think, most times I've seen it, it appeared to be cultural. Now, if I start to see tongue...
  20. Definitely not bad on the eyes. Quite a few tennis bloggers seem to know him (and vice versa). Since I don't get Tennis Channel, you'll have to let me know how his segment goes over

  22. Oh wow, 2 in the same month. I wonder if Eileen Fulton kept in touch with either. The character of Grant Colman popped up on the show pretty frequently years after he was no longer a regular in Oakdale, so it could've been possible for Douglas and Fulton to be friendly IRL.
  23. Oh yeah, I agree, the P&G shows did many things wrong the last 15 years of their respective shows, it just makes me too tired and depressed to list them all. But yeah, the generational roles assigned to characters got screwed up somewhere along the way and have remained as such among other things.
  24. For all those who claimed that Obama was weak for saying that going into Syria would be very complicated, while saying that Putin was strong for bulldozing his way in. That Obama was playing Checkers while Putin was supposed playing Chess. Well, I got your Checkers! http://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-syria-russia-pullout-idUSKCN0WG23C?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&utm_source=twitter Putin wants to put a "Mission Accomplished" spin on this withdrawal but it isn't any more "Mission Accomplished" than it was went Bush said it in Iraq. @DRW50 Thanks for finding that clip, especially since I now realize that I didn't see the entire Cold Opening. So funny!
  25. You're welcome. Claire played a pivotal role in Michelle's adult life though. I just wish they didn't write her into a corner and then send her off as a deadbeat mother yet again. I think Claire could've added so much had she stayed long-term the 2nd run. I fell off with GL by the late 90s but yeah, it seems like after Maureen's death that would have been the best time to return Claire to Springfield. I feel like both GL and ATWT had this in common- the last decade and a half or so of the show's existence, both shows seemed to do Mother/Daughter relationships so poorly after having done so well in the previous decades.
