Just another day in Bizarro-land.

Is Kei not still being coached by Michael Chang? This is not generating as much conversation as last year's ATP stars but I wonder whether there might be some maneuvering behind the scenes to change the minds of these players. Just as I said last year, nothing about this sounds good.

Many people said that Harris was getting too far ahead of herself on impeachment, but she turned out to be right (funny how quickly people are willing to dismiss the words of a former prosecutor regarding matters on the law). Harris made some salient remarks with passion, which sad but unsurprisingly were overlooked. This thread is worth a watch. I don't know whether the rest of America will catch up with Harris in time, perhaps she truly is too far ahead for this country.

It should be clear to all but the dumbest Trump supporter why Putin chose to help rig the election in favor of Trump.

Yeah, I read that original article (at another platform other than the NYT) and it was basically that infighting between two of Trump's staff members (Mulvaney and Cippollone) ended up botching the rollout. The other aspect is that because Gowdy is still under lobbying restrictions until January (which, shocker, nobody checked), by the time he could be added to the legal team, the impeachment inquiry may very well have been decided. Brilliant guys, huh?

The E.U. already has Boris Johnson over a barrel, as he has been discovered to be going to the E.U. with his tail between his legs in secret (or what was supposed to be a secret) application for extension, which he vehemently claimed he'd never do in public. No doubt, the E.U. is invigorated and girding for a fight with Trump. They seemingly have plenty of energy to spar with Trump, who has been provoking Germany, France and other E.U. countries.

Trump will want to paint this as a "win" but in reality, China (which has other pressing battles to face) is facing pressure on their imports from India, a country with a population comparable to China and larger than the U.S. Both countries are desperate for a truce as both have a sh*tload of domestic and diplomatic problems in which to contend.

As a candidate, as a Senator, as one of the highest ranked black women politicians, she'll still be relevant regardless.

I don't get my knickers in a twist like other tennis fans when I see players exhorting themselves because I know it's likely that the player is desperately trying to pump themselves up and summon up some courage. People were seemingly put out when Monfils was trying to pump himself up during his QF against Berrettini but anyone who has paid attention to Monfils' career knows that he gets very nervous at times of high stress in a match and he was trying to alleviate the stress, but people insist on falling back on assumptions and stereotypes. I do think that Zverev, even as he tries to exhort himself, it often seems like it's not coming from a genuine place--just kind of like he doesn't truly believe but it sort of looks cool. If that is the case, he just kind of wasting his energy. It's just aggravating when I see people policing people's behavior at every turn. If he's doing something worth a warning, a point penalty or a fine, by all means he should face consequences. Otherwise, leave it alone, let the players be themselves a bit more. It's tiring to see so much nitpicking sometimes.- The Politics Thread

Oh, my list of grievances for how SNL marginalized their Black talent is long but that would be for another thread. Suffice it to say, judging from how he did characterizations for the multiple characters in many of his movie, Murphy likely added a lot more to characters like Gumby and Mr. Robinson, etc. than was originally on the page.- The Politics Thread
Yeah, I get that sense too. SNL's writing of black characters has been overly broad for about 25 years and running now. It'll be interesting to see if A Black Lady Sketch Show finds a comedic persona for Kamala. They're the only sketch show that I can see with the ability to do this.- The Politics Thread
Low bar is where we're at, in so many respects these days. They didn't even try where Obama was concerned. They threw up their hands and claimed nothing about him was funny. Meanwhile Key & Peele took their time and concocted Obama's Anger Translator sketches, which were ground in Obama's character and were actually funny and prescient. SNL suffers from lack in their writer's room, I'm at the point where I doubt their writers even take the subway, they seem so far removed from reality.- The Tennis Thread
I suspect that if these courts remain as slow as they are, we're going to see a lot more of this stat.- The Tennis Thread
I agree but at 15, if she stays healthy and focused (that Capriati reference was not the best one ), there is a lot of upside in her game. Of course, I expect that people will also adjust their strategy when they play her now that she's no longer a virtual unknown but I don't expect her game to stay in place either. Either way, it should be interesting and today is a milestone achievement for her.- The Tennis Thread
Congratulations to Coco on her first WTA Tour win. What a remarkable season!!- The Politics Thread
Some Kamala Harris supporters griped that she wasn't represented in this sketch but given the fact that Harris' performance during the Equality forum was of such a high standard, I guess there was nothing SNL could find to poke fun at. I think it's a lot more problematic that they have fifty types of white guys, yet not enough of black, Latino or Asian players to cover a diverse group of candidates (and voters). SNL is going to struggle because this group of candidates is the most diverse in the history of American presidential politics.- The Politics Thread
I guess SNL doesn't have a large enough pool of black guys to find one to play Don Lemon. They did find Lin to portray Castro since they had no actor last time and got criticized for not including him in a previous sketch. Sorry but that sketch was a mess. Billy Porter couldn't even rescue it.- The Tennis Thread
Tennis Channel will be showing the final in Linz. I guess TC got tired of TT berating them over lack of coverage of Coco Gauff's matches and decided to actually try to work something out. - The Tennis Thread
