Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I had that same conversation with my late mom years ago about 80s Guiding light... and she was a Reva/Kyle fan and a Maeve/Fletcher fan. In fact, my mom adored Fletcher and thought he was funny and good looking... and she also loved Jessie and Simon as well LOL And... she loved the Shaynes.. especially Rusty with Mindy and she liked Roxie.. but only with Rick and not Johnny.

I actually loved the Sonni/Solita story and the writers strike made it even more like a mystery with the red herrings, etc. Also, Michelle Forbes was a more compelling actress/presence in the role then Jane Elliott was as Carrie. The other thing was that we kind of got to see Sonni after her personalities were integrated during the last six months or so of her stint on the show and it's a shame that Forbes only had a 2 year contract instead of a 3 year contract since I was intrigued to see her dynamic with Roger develop... and her few scenes she had opposite Blake could have developed into a full on feud. Had she stayed an extra year... we wouldn't have gotten Alexandra/Roger's marriage nor do I think we would have had Roger/Mindy's affair. I think Forbes leaving at the end of 1989 caused the writers to make the above story choices.

BTG: June 2025 Discussion Thread
Happy Father's Day to our BTG fathers and surrogate fathers... which all children need even if modern society thinks otherwise (Ashley on this show is exhibit A on that theory). In regards to the talk of the NuTed vs OgTed.... I'm curious if OgTed decided that the pace of daytime filming wasn't for him.. or if he didn't feel that the writing for the character was subpar. I wonder if the show hired NuTed because they wanted Ted to be passive and not to overshadow their female characters since this show. If so, then the show misfired because OgTed might not have been a versatile acting.. but he could match both SPS and Nicole's energy/presence in scenes together.

BTG: June 2025 Discussion Thread
I think the problem is that MVJ probably should leave some of the day to day decision making to more experienced people. Sometimes a creator is too emotionally invested in their creation to be objective and that sometimes someone else can be more objective and fix what isn't working. Case in point... Sally Sussman's Generations struggled when it started until some heavy hitters came in and helped right the ship. And in most shows on tv, the creator of the show usually isn't the showrunner. Not everyone is a Bill Bell or Agnes Nixon.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
The 1989 episode had Julie pre-Caleb being a thorn in the sides of John Dixon and the Hughes family while I finally got my answer as to the origins of Barbara's dislike of Emily ...and it looked to be near the end of Martha's first stint of Lily. I do wonder if Lily actually had feelings/love for Derek.. or if he was just someone that was available because Holden and Dusty were both not available nor in town.

Thank gosh we get some Vanessa/Joey/Doug focus next week... when we could have had a bit of focus this past week.. and less focus on Chelsea/Madison

BTG: June 2025 Discussion Thread
I'm curious to see once Dani/Andre are outed to everyone.. if they'll keep things going or if they realized that the sneaking around/forbidden aspect is what drew the two together. It's apparent during filming of these recent episodes that Andre/Ashley were still being foreshadowed/end gamed. Also, I think Naomi gave bad advice to Derek because a proposal is sure to freak Ashley out even more then make her feel secure. I'm hoping that these random islanded couple issues are either going to lead to them permanently breaking up.. or something happening to Derek (i.e. killed during a fire rescue) that frees Ashley up for Andre. I think Martin probably was mugged/attacked and when defending himself he accidently beat the person to death. And I wonder if this busboy is either a relative of the person killed and/or someone that saw what truly happened and will be gaslighting Martin. Pacing is still an issue with this show... since last Friday we got movement on the Doug/Vanessa/Joey front. and they haven't been on for five episodes. I'm sure we could have sacrificed the pottery breaking scene, Chelsea acting extra with Madison, or a Leslie vs Kat scene in order to get some follow up on that story.

I think Eva being a hairdresser and being self employed taught her how to organize schedules, budget, and to anticipate the needs of those she was providing a service to. All of which are transferable skills. Ted also said that she could work to get certified so it does sound as though she's going to be given paid training/education in order to do the job. An unexpected benefit to this Ted/Eva conversation is that we got an answer as to what exactly Kat's job was before she and Chelsea decided to go into business together.

BTG: June 2025 Discussion Thread
After watching yesterday and todays episodes, I'm convinced that a baby switch was done... and that Kat is Silk Press Sheila's and Eva is Nicole's. There seems to be hints of that with the emphasis on Nicole/Eva's relationship.. and also Kat and Leslie's antagonistic relationship. I wonder if this whole DNA gatherine project of Kat's will result in maybe a match between Kat/SPS... or a non match between Eva/SPS.

Izzy B also had a great platonic friendship with John. I still remember the scenes where she had to tell him she was sick and that unlike him, she wouldn't recover.

I assumed that Reva viewed Cain as someone she owed her life to since he was the one that helped save her during her attempted suicide.. so she felt responsible when he became ill. I imagine that Long would have used Cain as an obstacle/distraction for Reva as Kyle was working through his marriage to Maeve. What interested me was that Fletcher/Maeve were tested earlier then I thought with his constant visiting Maeve in the hospital in December 1985... so possibly Long had it planned out that Fletcher would have been the right man for Maeve while Reva was the right woman for Kyle. Both Kyle and Maeve came from money... so I could see Long planning to ultimately pair them with opposites in a socioeconomical sense of the word had she stayed on. I certainly know had she been headwriting the show when Newman came back as Josh.. she wouldn't have quickly reunited Josh/Reva.

Murder, She Wrote
MSW streams on Peacock (for members), Tubi (for free), is on DVD, and is rerun on cable.... and I know a lot of young millennials/older Gen Z's that have recently been exposed to Murder She Wrote... and they love it. It's timeless.

Another example of the dysfunctional enmeshment that the Duprees labor under. Dani freaking out about her father coming to visit as she's in bed with her boy toy totally screamed teenager instead of a grown ass woman that has two adult children. The whole family needs to be in therapy including Nicole (who probably became a therapist because of the dysfunction within the family). @ranger1rgConsidering the fact that Chelsea has been controlled by a domineering Dani... I would be more surprised if Chelsea wasn't being extra and/or pushy. She's spent more time being a model, having every move controlled by Dani, and being on social media as opposed to developing interpersonal relationships with her peers.

We all knew that TT is busy so if she's off screen for a bit except for phone calls and/or visits.. then it is what is. Ashley was nicely used as support... which the writers should have been doing since day 1 so that viewers could understand why exactly she's on the show LOL Chelsea/Madison.... seems too good to be true... we shall see. Shanice as a PT... if it means more airtime.. I'm good.

BTG: June 2025 Discussion Thread
The way Kat was acting today, it only enhances Silk Press Sheila's stalking accusations. She certainly takes after her Aunt Dani. It took about 70 episodes, but the show seems to have finally understood that Ashley/Derek have to interact with the rest of the canvas in order to get viewers to care about them... or at least understand what their purpose for being on the show. Leslie vs Kat is a wonderful pairing.... and Leslie/Tomas was comically. Dani's delusion that she's still Bill's wife.... no comment. I really hope that Eva doesn't turn out to be Nicole's child.. because I find the fall out from the anniversary party to be pretty good and there's more possibilities having Eva not being Nicole's child then being her child..imho.

I think Long was probably planning to have Claire suffer from Post Partum, but she left the writing staff shortly after Claire had Michelle so that element didn't get explored. And I always assumed that when Claire returned in the late 90s/early 00s.. that she was realizing that she messed up by not staying a part of Michelle's life and became resentful/bitter over her previous choices. That was my theory.

Jenn was a huge part of the success of Days back in the day, and that contribution shouldn't be dismissed. With that said, I do think her and Jack's time on the show should remain as occasional visits/drop ins. When Missy returns to play Jenn, Jenn is back to being Jenn. Jenn in her glory days was head strong, fiesty, and was a live wire.... and her scenes with Jack on Friday was classic Jenn with Jack being the voice of reason. It was the foundation of their relationship back in the day.

Murder, She Wrote
It's a lesson to never be loyal because once your use is up, you're shown the door. MSW was the only bright spot for CBS for awhile, and once they were back on top... they promptly sabotaged the show as a repayment for all that the show had done for the network.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Annie Dutton was anything, but sane when she was introduced. She was very tortured and looked like she was on the verge of tears when she was first introduced. While people, and writers, made it seem as though Annie lost her mind because of Josh.. I truly think that Annie had a lot of untreated mental issues that didn't manifest until her marriage to Josh. Sonni was also anything, but strong when she was first introduced either. Claire in 1983 was a complete 180 from the Claire that we got in 1986... and I do agree that her character was degraded.

I am a little disappointed that the show will be writing Jenn as in the wrong for her not liking Cat, when she's actually in the right. Maybe if Cat was played by a competent actress and had a purpose, I would be more behind this propping of the character. And I can't wait for the funeral for John Black to be over and then we can proceed and move on.

Knots Landing
The last five or so episodes of season 8 after the Jean Hackney story ended were pretty strong with the Laura/Val friendship breakdown, Ben's PTSD with Val trying to help him, and the start of Jill realizing that Val was as much of a threat to her happiness with Gary as Abby was. I always thought that the Jean Hackney story should have ended at mid season at the latest... and then deal with the fall-out because seeing Ben/Val switch roles with Ben in mental decline instead of Val would have been interesting to explore. And seeing Val and Laura's friendship suffer also was interesting and should have been explored especially with Karen caught in the middle and Abby both intrigued and amused at the conflict that she didn't cause. However, season 8 was the only Latham run season where Val was well written.

I think MVJ and Guza made a good team in the launching of the soap, and I'm hoping that the rotation of all stories and characters is maintained once he officially departs from the credits. And so far, Ron C's breakdowns have been decent... but they pop only when he's paired with a good script writer like Jazmin. I hope once Guza leaves officially... that MVJ is able to reign in Ron C and the dread Jamey G.

DAYS: June 2025 Discussion Thread
The whole town gushing over John Black as if he was a saint is eye rolling. I guess death really colors people's memories over his many flaws, but I guess that is normal and human nature. I'm still confused as to why Leo hasn't been written out. The actor stank up two soaps with his sub par acting, what does he have on TPTB's to remain on these soaps. What's the point of Cat? I hope the new head-writers figure out her purpose and develop her character. And I much prefer scenes not focusing on John's death because life does go on for the world when someone passes.
