  1. I definitely remember a buzz when she first started. At that time in the soap press GH was seen as just about flawless and that character tanking was the first sign for them that the show was going off track again.
  2. I've heard of that but never seen it. That's interesting. All I've ever seen Garrett in outside of Sisters is commercials. The last I heard of Yakov was his complaining about COVID restrictions in Branson.
  3. I was going to add all of the failed attempts at recreating Jenny/Nina/Tara/Dixie (Becca, Joni, Katie Kennicott, Lainie Cortlandt), but the OP said a year or less and I think that only fits Joni. Yes. And his brother Braden was the rapist. A wretched story. While I'm here, do any of you remember if Vicki Platt's character Corinne from that Jamaica remote was ever meant to be more, or brought to Pine Valley? For some reason I thought that was planned but didn't happen. I even have a memory of some claim she might be paired with Jack. I'm not sure if I just made all that up in my head.
  4. The writing for Jeremy was insane...trying to drown Stephanie in the hot tub, being a pilot who was in human trafficking (?), but wait, he was neglected by Mike so don't judge him. That was all Hogan Sheffer to a tee. That would make sense about Tanner as surely, they didn't intend that as a story. 1997 was such a dark year for the show as it was and there we have Hayley, one of the young lead heroines, in her wedding dress, trembling and in tears as Adam tries to console her. Of all of Sarah's post-Carly roles, Madison did seem to be the one with the most hype with the least to show for it. I can't remember if she and Ian were killed in that big disaster or just one...or neither, I don't know.
  5. 1995 was the first I saw of Cecily and I remember her being drab and the story being a bust.
  6. Thanks. That's where I get confused as until recently I thought they'd basically said he was dead. I agree they should have had John and Stefano die together. It would have been fitting.
  7. Do you think there was any real story need to make people think Stefano might be alive and then declare Stefano dead when Joe Mascolo has been gone for a while now and Stefano was shot to death in Mascolo's final appearances? Did they say in the narrative at the time that Stefano wasn't actually dead?
  8. AMC: Camille. Schulyer Grant had a pedigree (some would call it "nepo baby" these days), but little screen presence and little chemistry with MEK. The convoluted and unpleasant storyline did not help. At least Camille had a memorable death. Kit. I can't remember if she lasted a year or not. Maybe? The baby sister whose death caused so much trauma for Jack and Travis should have been real drama, although given that Jack was not a central character by that point and Travis only made guest appearances limited the scope. The "cry rape" story with Tad was a terrible story choice the character never recovered from, along with the limited range of Paige Rowland. At least Paige got a marriage and family out of the role. Tanner. I have always wondered what the initial plans were for this character. This was the peak of ABC Daytime importing Australian hunks. Vince Poletto was apparently a fan favorite on Heartbreak High or whatever Australian teen soap he'd come from. A triangle with Hayley and Mateo loomed. Poletto had a very dark energy in the role. Within several months, Tanner had pushed alcohol on a woozy Hayley and raped her. This was an extremely ugly story. Was that really what they had hired him for?
  9. I hadn't heard about that. Awful. I really enjoyed that storyline. I'm sure it was just another attempt at forced quirkiness but the actor who played John made those stories work for me.
  10. I didn't realize Donna Mills did another of these videos. It's still good for what it is intended to be, although all I can think is how ugly a lot of hair and fashion from the time was.
  11. This is about why I stopped watching, along with the incredibly bleak Trevor storyline. Everything became bleak.
  12. This is Michael Fairman's channel.
  13. Pine Valley is in the Sims world, which helps explain many of the parenting choices.
  14. I wouldn't say that about the ladies. Bradley Cole...well, Jeffrey sure as hell didn't help.
  15. I wouldn't be surprised if Lane Davies as Ridge Forrester is in there - someone at B&B really hated that recast. Thanks @Spoon I remember rereading that issue until the cover fell off. One of the only GL covers in SOD's last decades.
  16. That sounds like a great dream. Always fun, and so random, having a soap dream. Train Journeys with Victoria Lord would be one hell of a show.
  17. Babe was much more assertive. I do wonder if they are still setting up Brook Lynn/Dante and that's why they are holding back with Lulu. Right now both ladies seem to be at a low ebb.
  18. He did - Logan, I think. I know many felt he was a great match for Kin Shriner. It's sad to think Scott has lost two sons...and so much about Franco was sad and unnecessary. Like his very existence.
  19. Thanks for all your reviews (I still need to catch up a few) as they have helped put new insights into a period that I watched but hadn't thought much of in a long time. I enjoy that video too. I'm also reminded that I would have enjoyed some of the last openings if not for bad narration/songs (mainly the 70th). You've helped make the OLTL thread more entertaining so thanks for popping into this one too. What a lovely tribute (and the videos are even better). I always enjoy your memories of the show, and like you, GL (and ATWT) was my favorite soap, a formative memory for me in all the joys, tears, connections, and betrayals of being a soap fan. I hope Beyond the Gates will help shine more of a light on the P&G catalogue and keep those years going far beyond us. In this broken world we need the core values of GL more than ever - morality, yes, but also respecting brokenness and healing, and the wildly different people that make up daily life.
  20. Happy 1500 pages, everyone! What a wild accomplishment. Probably shouldn't seem that way, but these days, I take a happy moment where I find it, as I'm sure Papa Bauer would have advised. Even though I doubt the show will ever be back (never say never, I suppose), GL will never leave us, as we see here every day.
  21. That's interesting. The first Ann didn't even last very long. Callan White was...fine, I suppose. Court played some of the same beats of Ann when she was the boozy/cheated-on wife on AW, June or something Laverty.
  22. It's not wrong - I can see a lot of that with her and Michael with Alan (the main difference being that I don't think Alan ever loved Susan). I kind of wish there was a Scotty figure around Willow, just to see her branch off in another direction of crazed.
  23. I did see a fun clip of Tracy telling a vaguely horrified Emma and Gio that she had swiped Drew's house key from Scout and made a copy. This apparently just leads into more Martin/Tracy, which will annoy me as long as he continues to have the upper hand.
