One of my lasting images of Adelson will be from last year, when Trump reportedly berated him over the phone, humiliating him, yet he still ended up giving Trump more money. What a legacy to leave.

It's been a long time since I read the book but I thought he complimented Marlowe briefly to make a dig at Virginia Dwyer.

These companies will funnel their money through in another PAC, or will just donate to Scott after a polite delay, but I do hope this will hang over him and stop his slow march toward more power. Some in the House are trying to censure Mo Brooks. More needs to be done, but I guess expulsion is still too much.

These people don't actually care about freedom of speech. They are happy to oppress other people who don't share their views. Even Angela Merkel, who decided to make Trump a martyr today, presides over stringent laws against free speech. Yet suddenly she is upset.

The Republicans who refused to wear masks should be expelled.- The Politics Thread
This is going to be the new normal. I am aware it has been 'normal' for many in this country for a long time now, so that is poorly worded, but I'm worried about just how much further it's going to keep going. The Glenn Greenwald types who have so much influence keep berating and hectoring the idea of a new domestic terrorism bill and comparisons to 9/11. I understand some of the wariness, especially with how the Patriot Act ended up being used, but it's going to get to a point where what happened at the Capitol is going to seem like child's play.- The Politics Thread
This was the state supreme court race in North Carolina that came down to a few hundred votes, where the GOP spend endless money and launched various attacks against the black female chief justice (Beasley). It's so dispiriting - this is the type of stuff they continue to use to rot this country away state by state.- The Politics Thread
It's long overdue to delve into the organizations that exist to brainwash the military into fascism and theocracy. If they don't, then I'm very concerned about what is going to happen over the next four years. Grifters like Shapiro have probably reached their peak but a lot of people seem to eat up that Daily Wire [!@#$%^&*]. I do wonder how many will keep listening to low-energy Glenn Beck and his completely pathetic drones like Dave Rubin. Has there ever been a First Lady as useless - and completely irrelevant to the public - as Melania?- Another World Discussion Thread
It's very well-written and is a priceless document to an era that is mostly unavailable, but the main problem with the book is his digs don't really tend to match what we see of the surviving fragments, especially when it comes to Jacquie Courtney.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

There are already a lot of conspiracy theories going around about the officer's suicide. I don't know where this is going to go, but whatever happened, this is more blood on the hands of Trump and his Republican sycophants.- The Politics Thread
I see your point. Yes, I agree about the filibuster. I guess it will take a few cycles for that to change. Hopefully this put Democrats in a decent position in 2022 to expand on their numbers. Oh I hadn't heard that. Geez. I hope not. I think people don't get just how many psychos out there do not see these officers as any type of heroes. They are targets. Even to members of Congress.- The Politics Thread
I wish they would consider, before singling him out and putting his name this way, that he's going to get a lot of threats and attacks. I hope he was at least consulted beforehand.- Falcon Crest
- GH: John Reilly has passed
Sad news. He played Sean with a lot of humor and the right touch of gruffness, taking a supporting, one-note character and making him a touchstone for many viewers. He and Sharon Wyatt were so so good together. I'm sorry that his ATWT work, which was apparently terrific (so much so that viewers could not accept the return of the former actor to the role), is all lost to time.- The Politics Thread
https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/10/manchin-prefers-targeted-stimulus-checks-457065 (not even getting into his other comments, like praising the treasonous senators who changed their mind at the last minute) I know there's more important stuff going on right now, I am not trying to derail, but this just really upsets me because yes, I could use the money, but beyond that, I feel like there are so many conversations not being had in this country about the working poor. This idea that still dominates our decisionmaking that paints a picture of people who have jobs being automatically able to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" is extremely punishing, extremely out of touch, dangerously so. Considering he raised a daughter whose company jacked up the price of epi pens by an obscene amount, apparently he has little interest in suffering people, but these views go far beyond him, and I don't feel like they are ever going to go away. I've seen comments about how he also does not want to give stimulus checks to people on Social Security. There's no way in hell the Democrats would go for that, but if true that also stupefies me, considering how many of these people are living below the poverty line. Agreed.- Days: A Horton Returns
I agree. I know many don't care for her as Laura, and I can't say Reilly's material did her any favors, but I do think JLB is a very unique, compelling actress who could have been properly utilized.- Days: A Horton Returns
It will be nice to see her again. I wonder how she will play off Cady. Considering how rarely Laura has appeared in the last 12 years it's crazy to think she has been able to play off all 3 adult Jennifers.- Fantastic Returns
I think when they gave Heather more personal stories and not just business, she did alright - the miscarriage story with Holden, for instance. I also thought her work in the scenes where Lily learned The Truth About Aaron was very strong. I can't judge fairly because she was my first Lily. I did not see Martha until she returned. I never really got the hype. I did think she had chemistry with Paolo Seganti, but otherwise I enjoyed her more as Rose. I think it's something where if you were not watching when she first came on as a young girl, then you didn't have a connection. She is actually my least favorite of the three Lilys.- The Politics Thread
Men like this tend to see black or Hispanic women as a fetish. Regarding how this clip seems like bad acting - there is a fine line between performance art and fascism with these types of men. Some on leftist Twitter that I don't care for but sometimes make valid points have been documenting the failed comedians who moved into podcasting and then melded fully into extremist, white supremacist behavior. Joe Rogan is the most obvious example, but there are many others further down the list who platformed the Proud Boys and other hate groups. There is also a push to deify these men as "real" men, even though they are greasy and grimy and toxic beyond belief. It's the most toxic version possible of the old cartoons about the scrawny guy kicking sand in the face of the bully. - The Politics Thread
