  1. I don't know if the Beltway will ever see the light, but that Jake Sherman tweet gave me a good laugh. This tweet from one of the dead end left in Congress reinforces why they should be kept out of power positions.
  2. Thanks for sharing that @DramatistDreamer. Those images above make my blood boil. These terrorists won't even get a slap on the wrists.
  3. Get ready for the "it's Antifa!" talking point. (never mind that they had not a word to say when it was proven that far right extremists did infiltrate BLM protests to cause chaos)
  4. @Vee as you were saying. (I know there is some pushback to this as well)
  5. You're right to be worried, although to be honest I'm more worried about lone wolf attacks. I have had my criticisms of Romney, and I have little tolerance for the deification of him in t he last few years, but I was genuinely concerned when I saw that someone confronted him yesterday in a setting that could have been very dangerous. I keep thinking back to the hysteria whipped up by the GOP and their money men when Obama was elected, which led to Gabby Giffords and several other people being shot.
  6. With Manchin I don't really know what to expect, but I do hope they will at least put the checks out - and as soon as possible, before they can be browbeaten into not doing them, or means-testing, giving less, what have you. I think Ossoff campaigning on those at the end was key to his win. I'll be thinking of your mother. I have some family there too, or nearby, and am hoping they will just stay in as long as possible.
  7. I remember in Obama's first term they were going to try cap and trade, but big money pushback, and worries from Blue Dogs, helped kill it. Now that the Blue Dogs are mostly gone I wonder if they may be able to work something out, if Joe Manchin goes along. (if Ossoff wins, I mean) I know what you mean about a day or two to be able to enjoy the moment. I was looking at some of the memes going around about Kamala Harris walking into the Senate to cast the tie-breaking vote. @Vee Stacey Abrams and LaTosha Brown were interviewed on The Daily yesterday. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/04/podcasts/the-daily/georgia-runoffs-stacey-abrams.html
  8. I didn't realize the tweet with my above post never showed up.
  9. @BetterForgotten when I saw this tweet I thought of the video you posted.
  10. After reading an article a day or two ago where some of Biden's people viewed the chances of winning both seats as being a miracle, I was thinking about the discussion here last week about whether it would be appropriate to see the outcomes as a miracle. If Ossoff wins, then the stars truly were lined up - if jean jacket king David Perdue, whose bland malevolence and sociopathy is a dime a dozen in today's GOP and still appealing to many voters, had decided not to make a racial attack against Kamala Harris (he can't pronounce her name - lol!) at a campaign rally, if he had not tied himself to Kelly Loeffler, one of the most heinous (in every way) candidates I have ever seen in my life, if he had not continued to tie himself to Trump long after it was clear that was literally a losing proposition, then he probably could have pulled it off. Yet it takes a lot of hard work to get to a miracle. Ossoff never really stopped running after his 2017 House loss, and he recalibrated his message for the current climate in a way that seemed sincere. He was also able to make the attacks that Raphael Warnock would not be able to make - blasting Kelly Loeffler (on Faux News no less) for "campaigning with a Klansman" was the type of to-the-throat moment that Democrats could always use more of. Stacey Abrams put aside two years of her life - during a pandemic no less - to help other Democrats avoid the same voter suppression and racism that robbed her of being governor. It became very popular, on the right and among the fauxgressives of the left, to mock her determination, yet look what she did, along with every other black voter and activist who were written off over the years. Republicans will be pulling out every trick in the book, and a few that haven't been written yet, to try to stop her from beating Kemp in 2022. I hope she is given everything she needs and more than deserves. It would be easy for me to say that Loeffler, whose entire campaign strategy involved looking for puppies to make coats out of and modeling trucker hats several sizes too small, defeated herself, but that would be ridiculous - she was still a very rich white Republican woman in a system that usually rewards her type of politician (if you can even call her that) at every turn. Raphael Warnock managed to survive everything from a pathetic splinter campaign from Joe Lieberman's son to months of vicious racist attacks and personal smears from the GOP and their media outlets, and he did so with grace and compassion. There will be pushback to the idea that these results "saved" America, but at least they gave us the chance. We won't have 2 years of Mitch McConnell choking the life out of everything. We have options, and plans. And that's a lot more than I thought we'd have a few months ago.
  11. Kelly Loeffler is now 2/3 of the way through her arc of going from one of the central characters on Facts of Life, to occasionally showing up just to be unpleasant to nicer characters, to never appearing again.
  12. When they had Kim tell Seth in one of the summer 1988 episodes that Betsy was like her daughter, and describe their bond to him, it was so surreal for that era that I ended up wondering if that was the strike writers. I had nothing against the Frannie and Kim relationship, and there were some good moments which helped make 1986 such a strong year for the show, but it just wasn't anywhere near as interesting or important to Kim's history as her bond with Betsy. Even reading the synopses of Kim being alone and lost, sitting in the park, and bonding with Betsy, who also felt so alone and lost as a child, is powerful.
  13. Looks like it's going to be close, but I am just going to assume the usual and be glad I won't be on much of tonight.
  14. Repulsive beyond measure. As so many of the ghouls in the corporate world have been with their treatment of undocumented immigrants at meat packing plants.
  15. It's unfortunate that this is how many will remember her last days. At least she wasn't aware of any of it, and I guess people had a day of diversion in a very depressing time.
  16. I guess Google Drive may be the best for now (or the "vaults" that some mention on here - I've never actually been invited to any). Hopefully something can change someday. If I ever find that clip I'll let you know.
  17. Apparently this is going to get even worse. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/12/case-act-hidden-coronavirus-relief-bill-just-beginning-next-copyright-battle I guess, like you said, we'll just save what we can and hope some treasures will still appear. That's the part that most bothers me...knowing some may have material out there we have never known of, but won't share now.
  18. I'm so sorry to hear that. There's so much I wish I'd saved. Hopefully that 1974 clip can come around again. I talked some with munecojim on one of my Youtube channels and they seemed to think it was the AMC videos. If so, then it's just another example of this genre alienating the very fans who keep it going.
  19. Considering the circumstances, I shouldn't have laughed at this, but...
  20. That sounds like something Lucinda might have said, but I can see why she changed it.
  21. Hope you enjoy it - I'm so glad it was new to you.
  22. No problem. Hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for confirming about Virginia. I wasn't 100%. Glad to see one more new glimpse of her. I really miss getting to see so many soap actors in commercials.
  23. That last one reminds me of why I generally avoid this show's fandom... I have not been able to get into the show in recent years. Jodie didn't click for me, sadly, although ultimately that is down to Chibnall, who has consistently failed at the show, from writer to showrunner.
