  1. Someone else will know better but I think Tiffany was introduced as a spoiled actress, like one from a '30s screwball comedy. At worst she was probably naughty. Later on she would get nastier or tough at times, when she was fighting for what she loved (like her nephew), but she was mostly broken and needy.
  2. Thanks. I do wonder what approach they would have had, especially as I don't see how many of the stories could have continued. I wonder if he had suddenly aged Endora as part of the plan if the show had been picked up. I was watching a few of these clips and until then never even knew they'd aged Endora. They also get in a little jab at Direct TV. I also never knew they used a lesbian couple as part of the true love to fight against Satan, or whatever terminology. Nice to see JER had those moments. Endora & Tabitha 7/30/08 - YouTube Endora 8/5/08 Sometimes I'm tempted myself, but I have so much I already don't watch, I just end up going through clips instead.
  3. I can see that. The Windsors are more like the Cassadines than they'd care to admit...
  4. Is it wrong that I kind of prefer the second? The first looks like rejected Nintendo Power cover art for Castlevania. There was just pure hate - for women, for the show's history, the Qs, everything. It was very ugly. The only time some in charge seemed to get more life in their work was when they could have characters go on self-righteous, abusive tirades. One of the positives around that time was making Sam so dark and crazy, but that was seemingly just done because Kelly had contract issues or whatever.
  5. I figured Gio was brought in for Joss or they had already been planning a triangle with Emma and Gio and Joss so I am always expecting that to come around again. The only thing I ever remember about Vaughn is the actor's modeling portfolio. I don't think Brennan/Carly would have lasted even with Measure, because the powers that be don't seem to know how to write any Carly pairing, maybe due to resenting that they never get the Jason/Carly pairing they want (and one I wanted...back in 1998, not now). The show definitely wastes Ric Hearst, they could have done more with Ava or with Liz (even if I don't think Liz would ever get involved with him again), or even Alexis, but Ric has a lot going on in his life and lives on the East Coast so I imagine that may be why he hasn't been on of late.
  6. Thanks! For some reason I can only embed now if I use the Youtube app.
  7. After watching the episode: I assume Rick Springfield was only back for a short time, but the very sorrowful take on cheating (AKA "wanting to explore options") was out of step in Monty's punchier era. He seems to have wandered out of an episode from 10-15 years earlier. Rick does play that sorrow well (and he looked very nice which was a bonus). I liked the complicated Bobbie of this episode in that she unapologetically goes behind Tiffany's back, then squirms when Holly brings up her disdain for the idea of someone cheating. I didn't realize until looking it up that Demi Moore lasts all the way to early 1984. They sure cut their losses with Janine Turner as she didn't even last a year! Beyond the visuals, I've never really understood the appeal of Janine Turner. Demi, I could understand more, with the husky voice and the old Hollywood beauty (especially as this is before her unfortunate enhancements), but she's just not good in anything I see of her as Jackie. The best part of her scenes is her co-worker's tight trousers. I also didn't realize they were setting up Robert and Holly before Luke's temporary exit. Smart to frame it as they did here - two people who are drawn together but are not yet in a period of being aware of their feelings for each other. Sharon Wyatt is just wonderful. The best scene in the episode is her keeping a brave face as Noah leaves, then, instead of weeping and wailing after he's gone, quietly laying her head on the couch, as if she's a child. There's something very odd in seeing Jackie, Heather and Tiffany together. I have always associated Heather with other character groups. I knew she was still around because she's involved in Susan Moore's last days, but something about her feels left behind. I can see why Monty didn't want to keep the character around, at least not enough to give Robin Mattson more money, or however that departure went. Speaking of Susan, Gail Ramsey has a commercial in this episode, which is a surprise as she was (barely) still on GH at this time.
  8. No, I meant them. I'd looked for them a few times and never could find them. Thanks. I'll look again.
  9. I liked Chris too. Whatever his reasons for going were I thought he embodied what Adam should have been. They've had four liked or well-liked actors in the role of Adam, which is more than you can say for many Y&R recasts. The writing has well and truly been the failing of this character, that and the show's worship of certain Newmans. Part is probably because we can discuss decades and decades (sometimes even the radio days), which we can't with Y&R in this thread, but there's also just something so ossified, so numbing about Y&R's last few decades. The exact opposite of anything Bill Bell wanted his show to be.
  10. Lauren would have been a great choice, although she would have had her work out for her with some of the ham in the Spaulding family at that point. The only time I remember any was Kim Rhodes on AW, but that may be generous.
  11. Anne Jeffreys - YouTube
  12. They could have brought her back when they brought Amanda back in the mid '90s. Maybe she would resent Amanda for leaving the family behind and secretly work to undermine her. Maybe she would form a triangle or quad with Lucy and Alan Michael.
  13. I know it wasn't a Marland touch (shades of years later when Iva adjusted quickly to learning she was given up by a couple who later became filthy rich and stopped being mentioned after a year or two), but they did Jennifer a real disservice by not having much more of an adjustment period for her. She went from barely getting by with Morgan to having a major position at Spaulding. I imagine the idea of her relationship with Mark was meant to show her indulging in a life she couldn't have had, but Mark Pinter always seemed older than his age and they just had no chemistry. Once Cooke was moved away from Kelly and Morgan was able to act her age, I thought she improved, but it was probably too late.
  14. Didn't see this when it was put up months ago. I didn't realize Elizabeth Savage had her own talk show while she was on Loving. She's very...expressive. And she and Tristan Rogers were much closer than I knew.
  15. Thanks as always. Well...that's something. Does anyone remember in early 1998 when the ABC soaps all had to do "storms" to promote Storm of the Century? I think most of GH or PC just had the characters in a car...
  16. Was that character played by Giancarlo Esposito brought in under Marland plans or was that Pat Falken Smith? Then he wasn't around long. AW did bring in a slew of black characters in 1981-1982, but beyond Travis having a black friend on Search, and what already existed on EON, GL and ATWT didn't seem interested. ATWT did bring in Heather and Tucker around 1983. I wonder if that was down to Jessie and Angie becoming popular on AMC. GL seemed to, for whatever reason, have the least interest in black characters of any of the P&G soaps bar Search. Even the "better" periods starting with Gilly and Hamp only really have a few strong years (maybe 91-93).
  17. You're right. It was very short-sighted, as anyone should have known Dynasty was not going to last much longer the way it was going (if ABC hadn't been faltering Dynasty probably would have ended a few years earlier than it did). Dallas and Dynasty weren't similar shows and shouldn't have tried to be the same (can you imagine Alexis ever setting foot in Ewing Oil?).
  18. 1984 NBC promo Soap Operas (Clara Peller)
  19. @slick jones Thanks for all these updates and the reproduced interviews. I forgot Pam Grier was on Knots. What a waste to just make her a cop. I wonder what her OLTL role was.
  20. Not to be uncharitable, but Atkins never was much of a draw in his own right. The support he did have was for taking off his clothes, and even that wasn't enough to make that stripper movie sell. He probably got more career benefits from, years later, being in that nude photo book with Josh Duhamel and Frank Grillo (among others) than from being on Dallas. His casting, along with others like Barbara Carrera, shows how the powers that be at Dallas had lost grip of what made sense for the show. Dallas was not that type of camp or that type of fantasy material for gay men.
  21. I'd be fascinated by what she has to say. I don't dislike Locher but it seems like he asks even less soap questions than usual in some of his recent interviews.
  22. Thanks. I think there was another version around too - and there's also a full version of both those episodes at a Georgia university site, I think. I wish all those disco performances were available. The only others I've seen are Bertie Higgins (notable for Nola thinking back to her Casablanca fantasy) and Jennifer Holiday (notable for seeing Trish getting down in the background).
  23. Louise is such a gem. Glad she is still showing up here and there.
  24. Thanks. I should probably watch more of this period to know for myself...just kind of tough to find or get into.
