@soapfan770 I barely watched any of this run so I can't even properly clown but thank you for all the time taken. The highlights are the soul-sucking images of Jason Thompson, who seems to look more like Peter Bergman than he probably should.

Poor Chris Cousins. I guess a check is a check.

What is that awful etch-a-sketch design in the background of one of those sets?

Out of context that Two Chads photo is surprisingly hot.

Could Claire discover that she is not a Newman and Jordan made it all up/stole another baby or something that rids us of the character/actress.

Maybe Claire at first doesn't believe and the when discovers it's true, tries to hide it b/c she's happy as a Newman. Maybe someone tries blackmail. But her deceit is uncovered . Claire realizes she's living a lie and feels alienated, deciding to skip town for parts unknown.

Victoria is shattered but eventually moves on. That awful retcon can be forgotten.

Santa Barbara Discussion Thread

I was listening to the recording of the livestream again today and I found it quite touching how the chemistry between A and Marcy is still palpable.
Full disclosure - I was never a Cruz and Eden fan, my SB love was firmly rooted in Mason Capwell and Julia Wainwright and earlier Mary Duvall. But I'm well aware how important Cruz and Eden are for the success of the show and when Marcy attended the 40 year anniversary it was a wonderful moment.

Knots Landing

And seeing Ruth and Lillimae having lunch with Ruth instantly knowing that Lillimae was a gossip and was useful to get intel on Laura was another element that set apart Knots Landing from the other soaps.
Ava obviously wasn't opposed to doing tv work since she and Stefanie Powers did a pilot for a tv show in 1986 that didn't get picked up. That would be an interesting pairing had it gone to series.
Eric and Michael should have been dumped since they didn't really fit into the show anymore. Unpopular opinion.

Y&R: Josh Griffith steps down as head writer

I somehow don’t feel they’ll put any real effort in trying to find an “outside” voice - at the end of the day, all Sony and CBS cares about is the show coming in under budget and producing episodes as cheaply and quickly as possible. We’re just looking at the very limited cesspool of recycled “talent” unfortunately, but I would love to be proven wrong.
It would be great though if they found another Harding Lemay type though - someone whose background is not in soaps and possibly doesn’t have any real affinity for the genre, but was trained and coached on how to write for it and found ways for it to gel with their creative mindset. Then again, this could go in the Hogan Sheffer direction, which is the last thing this show needs…

Y&R: Josh Griffith steps down as head writer

Any new writer unfamiliar with soaps would probably want to dump half the cast based on their story history.
It needs to be someone, if not familiar with the show, at least with an understanding of the genre and the limitations in place and some experience in a writing capacity.
Or a new voice co writing with someone with experience.

Knots Landing

@All My Shadows Season 6 was Knots Landing best season. The last 10 episodes of Season 6 were to me the peak of Knots Landing.
Season 5 Knots Landing got corporate with Lotus Point, ventured into James Bond/action thriller territory with Wolfbridge, and also got glamorous. IMO going corporate and glamorous was done in response to Dynasty blowing up and becoming a pop culture phenomenon.
Hahaha, that's funny.
Knots Landing isn't the type of soap we'd expect to see a messy wealthy matriarch that tries to control her son's life but Ruth didn't feel out of place at all and I think her story was complete in the episodes that she was in. I loved the scenes where Laura called out Ruth and put her on blast. It's so funny that Ruth preferred villainess Abby over the more virtuous Laura as the ideal mate for Greg.
Ava Gardner arc on Knots Landing was quite the contrast to Lana Turner arc on Falcon Crest. Ava was by all accounts well-liked by Knots Landing cast whereas Lana was allegedly throwing diva demands during her Falcon Crest arc. Then again, Ava admitted that she took the part on Knots Landing for money so she was really in no position to throw diva demands.
