Well, CM isn't Jane lol. As an audience we also have years of history with Tracy and know she has layers even if the writing isn't there.

I like Drew being a shameless villain privately. He's gone a little too far. He can at least try to act like a normal human in public lol.

Hmm kinda like crafty/cunning? Cuz I believe Sidwell eclipsed him in that department. I believe the thread talked months ago about how it was good to have Drew as the more...grounded villain while Sidwell was the more soap supervillain. But since Sidwell blackmailed Drew, Drew's villainy has lost all of its agency for me. It was like the writers just could not have two villains at the same time. I smh.

I think there's room for both if I didn't find Sidwell's entire existence unnecessary. Sidwell's out there performing his own comedy routine half the time and sometimes it's mildly entertaining. I don't consider him a sustainable villain like Drew.

I was thinking more of someone like EJ on Days for Drew. You know he's up to no good, but he's always shocked people think that and keeps his plans closer to the vest. He's able to charm and convince people he changed while Drew doesn't care.

Wacka wacka!!! lol. But I completely agree. I like the actor, but it's the same show and dance that Frank does with villains with that 'look at me! I'm evil' though from where I'm playing catch-up, the actor is bringing some nice menace finally. But I don't and have never found him sustainable. Now Frank on the other hand...by displacing Drew who was really running roughshod over everyone and had a lot of fingers in story pies to bow down to Sidwell...seems to feel differently. I found Drew too to be the sustainable villain. All he needed was a redeeming quality, but they took it away (Scout) and I really hated they did that. He was perfect IMO due to that. It's another reason why he's a cartoon now. His obsession love for Willow ain't it.

EJ is a good example for Drew to be like. It would be nice if they would try. But alas.

That is how it should be at this point.

I also never wanted the shooting to change Drew. He's too good a villain as he is and Mulcahey's more nuanced version of the character is long gone anyway. But you can add some more layers and dimension vs. what they're currently doing, and see what happens in future.

It really is not. The eye mite arc is up there with Jean Passanante's(?) pet subplot where someone (Olivia, IIRC) had to go to court over public breastfeeding, leading to I think Alexis and the other women going titties-out in court. Riveting stuff.

I think there are other ways you can affect a change; namely, Drew seeing Willow with clear eyes and vice versa and their relationship becoming something different and more mutually villainous. And you can add a bit more dimension and pathos to his new persona per Jake and others, as we've said in the past. But I don't think he needs to do a 180.

It points to the lack of general schemers on the show right now. Back in the day you had grey characters like Alan, Edward, and Monica who were capable of anything in the right situations. And people like Scotty, Lucy Coe, Katharine Bell, even early Damien Smith and early 80’s Heather Webber. Reliably capable of blackmail, opportunists, scoundrel behavior without crossing into supervillain. That type of characters are reasonable suspects in a story like this to keep the fuel in the storytelling fire.

Yeah, I checked out almost immediately when she took over for the same reason lol. AMC and some of ATWT were enough for me.

I would look in for very brief periods in those years and I think that subplot came about in the first year or two. 2016-17? It was played for laughs but IIRC JP or Altman was super proud of pushing this social issue. Alexis and the ladies are liberating the stuffy court by ripping open their blouses to prove a point for women's rights! Okay.
