I wish that more light could be shed on why Jan is so pro-Derek and why she holds him to a high standard of perfection (that even he says he doesn't deserve).   I figure that it has to do with her past association with whomever is Ashley's dad.. but I would like to see more of her viewpoint/perspective when she's brunching with either SPS or Mona.

While it probably does have to do with whomever is Ashley's dad, I feel the show has done a good job establishing why Jan's POV on why she's pro-Derek in her brief scenes. Her as a single mother who had to struggle for her and Ashley, love the idea of Ashley (who is in a dependable job that is her dream job) has a man who also has a dependable (if dangerous) job. Both of which pay well so Ashley does not have to struggle like she did when Jan was raising her. And...Jan can see that Derek adores her...and soooo doesn't come across as a player.

I am so glad I'm not the only one noticing this.

You guys know that I'm a white guy. This makes me so angry that I have no words. I was afraid to post about it thinking I might have it wrong, or that I'm making too much of this. I also wondered if my general dislike of the Joey character played into my feelings.

But I don't think I'm making too much of this at all, and I don't like where the story is going.

And now we get this POS white guy taking credit for where Izaiah is in life? Are you f.ucking kidding me?

Now we have the white Madame who's going to feed escorts to all the rich women of color while she also condescends to the Latino hunk who screwed her.

All of this has really turned me off.

Oh, I've noticed. And as Joey is such a polarizing figure on this board, I knew at some point we would start to seriously discuss it. It has slowly, but surely over these 8 months he has gone from a minor character to someone who has his fingers in so many pies. I think I mentioned it when we had the reveal about Allison's 'husband' and how it was foreshadowed months ahead of time with Joey having an escort service. That he has so many ways for him to enter the story and be that ongoing/recurring villain. And while it seem he's being set up as a nemesis for the Duprees...and they do need one...I don't think long-term cuz I'm starting to think like Vee that Vanessa will take over his whole business, but it's too noticeable to not be commented on. And now he knows Izaiah, too? A new connection and story avenue for him.

I do wonder if that was always the plan for Joey or if it shows how much MVJ loves having JL on her show and finding ways to keep him. But you know I like that storyline and how it came together and like him and Vanessa.

I get the critique, but I also think Joey works as an antagonist so I don't have a huge issue with it. And I do think in the end it will be Vanessa who will take his empire, which works for me personally. Full circle. My only complaint about Joey is the silly-ass casino set/Golden Corral.

I do think having a similar Black antagonist would help down the line. Hayley and Leslie are good for what they are, but it's not the same thing. But I suspect that's why they are keeping Dante Green in the background for now. It is inevitable he shows up and wreaks havoc as an archvillain.

I'm thinking that way as well. Watching Vanessa this week, I can't help, but think about you and going 'it's happpppening...'

I also feel that way about Dante. I will fall out if turns out if Kat/Chels's Dante and Dante Green are one and the same.

I'm really enjoying the Martin/Kat scenes and the Nicole/Smitty/kids scenes, good family stuff today. Nicole is so great with her grandkids.

Enjoyed seeing Pamela twice this week!

And dare I say it... but I think deep down, Jan has a thing for Derek.. but can't admit it since he's with her daughter.   Hence another reason why she's so pro Derek and trying to push him to stay with Ashley.

I like that Jan didn't condone what Derek did, but also low key called out her daughter for lying to herself about where her true feelings lie.

I'm truly hoping that this hasty reveal will now keep Derek/Ashley broken up.. and perhaps testing Derek with other people and also place Ashley at the hospital where she works best (plus, there are some handsome doctors that she could be looking at).

  • Shanice is not reading the [professional] room with this one. And not Ted joining in on it, too. Damn.
  • I adore the relationship between Bradley and Nicole. It is sweet to see Nicole so loving of her son-in-law.
  • It sucks that Pamela cannot join Andre and Nicole in Los Angeles for their photoshoot for Forrester Creations. But I am intrigued by this upcoming model!
  • Well, here we go with the sibling confrontation I was expecting.
  • Not Nicole calling out Tyrell's use of the word "yo," ha. She was not having it. That was such an Anita call-out.
  • Of course the snot-nosed, spoilt bitch would not think it is a big deal; there are some conversations that should not be happening in public spaces. Sex is one of those conversations. And Samantha should be talking to anyone but you. Legitimately ANYONE.
  • World War III is about to erupt in the Richardson Smith household now that Martin dropped the atomic bomb that Samantha is pulled from Chelsea Kat. Uh-oh. Watch out.
  • Oh, that was a low-grade blow from Samantha to Bradley and Martin; I know she is a teenager and they say things they do not mean, but that was an incredibly low blow.
  • Ugh. The spoilt bitch would just be disgusting in cutting her own father off for embracing his other child. Gross.

Notes:

  • Well, we end the week with a breakdown script by writer2. At least Paige is a talented scriptwriter that can turn this pile of dog poo into relative gold.

Dani and Andre are literal fire 🔥

I agree, I've really come around to them as a couple this week.

Martin can be such a d!ck sometimes, ugh.

Kat is such an entitled Brat and Martin, he pissed me off today and had me siding with Kat 😡

How? I think her feelings were valid today especially after she got a verbal lashing from Martin that she did not deserve
