As expected, Tracey Thomson has been named co-head writer of โ€œBeyond the Gatesโ€ following the exit of Robert Guza Jr. (โ€œGeneral Hospital,โ€ โ€œSunset Beachโ€).

First reported by Soap Opera Network last month, Guza exited the daytime drama series as an executive producer and co-head writer after fulfilling the terms of his contract. Thomson was named his successor as an executive producer, one of eight, after her name was inadvertently revealed in a press release by CBS announcing that the show had been renewed for a second season.

In her role as co-head writer, Thomson works alongside series creator and head writer Michele Val Jean in crafting the showโ€™s long-term story.ย

Thomson has an extensive career in daytime that includes writing episodes of โ€œGeneral Hospitalโ€ and its spinoff, โ€œGeneral Hospital: Night Shift.โ€ She also has substantial experience as co-head writer or associate head writer at โ€œThe Young and the Restlessโ€ and has written numerous scripts during a two-year stint at โ€œAll My Children.โ€

Outside of daytime, Thomson created the live-action, time-travel mystery series โ€œSecrets of Sulphur Springs,โ€ which ran for three seasons at Disney Channel. She also served as an executive producer on the series.

With Thomson now included, executive producers for โ€œBeyond the Gatesโ€ include Michele Val Jean, who also serves as showrunner, Sheila Ducksworth, president of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, Julie Carruthers (โ€œAll My Children,โ€ โ€œPort Charlesโ€), Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner and Anna Saalfeld.

The writing team includes includes Susan Dansby (โ€œThe Young and the Restlessโ€) as script editor and breakdown writers Ron Carlivati (โ€œOne Life to Live,โ€ โ€œDays of our Livesโ€), Sara A. Bibel (โ€œThe Young and the Restlessโ€), Christopher Dunn (โ€œSanta Barbara,โ€ โ€œAll My Childrenโ€), Jamey Giddens ("Days of our Lives," "Ambitions") and Teresa Zimmerman (โ€œThe Young and the Restless,โ€ โ€œThe Bold and the Beautifulโ€).

Script writers includeย Judy Tate (โ€œAnother World,โ€ โ€œAs The World Turnsโ€), Danielle Paige (โ€œDays of our Lives,โ€ โ€œGuiding Lightโ€), Jazmen Darnell Brown (โ€œAmbitions,โ€ โ€œSaints and Sinnersโ€), Cheryl L. Davis (โ€œAs The World Turns,โ€ โ€œDays of our Livesโ€) and Lynn Martin (โ€œThe City,โ€ โ€œThe Young and the Restlessโ€).

Gregori J. Martin, who had been a breakdown writer since the series launched, has exited, putting his focus on the tenth season of the soap opera "The Bay," which he created and executive produces.

Jamey Giddens has replaced Martin as a breakdown writer at "Beyond the Gates."

Episodes featuring Thomsonโ€™s name as both executive producer and co-head writer are slated to air later this summer.

I'm sad to see Gregori J. Martin exit his role as breakdown writer, because I've liked his breakdowns a lot since the series' premiere. But I understand his focus is on his own baby; perhaps he can come back as an alternating breakdown? I know that is unrealistic, but... it'd be nice.

As for Tracey Thomson, I don't absolutely love it, but I'm having faith she was chosen as the writer person to continue bringing the best of the best this soap is capable of giving. Plus, given she worked with Robert Guza Jnr, I'm going to have faith she'll continue to bring something to the table.

Article updated. I forgot to include Jamey's name as I c/p'd from a previous article the names and credits for the breakdown writers.

Apologies.

Ehhh... at least it means that they're probably not working on scripts together.

The show has strong script-writers that will make some of the crap in the breakdowns (which we know Ron C and Jamey G will have) go down a lot better

I feel like the writing has been strong and only gotten better over time. I'm curious how it will feel once Thomson arrives. Hopefully she is a good addition to the team!
