By soap memory, what storyline do you remember first seeing on your soaps ?

 

GH I remember Laura being stalked in the early 80s. YR I remember someone having a face veil, but I dunno who it was. For some reason it always makes me think of Katherine lol

1969: Gillian Spencer's Viki Lord in love with Joe Riley, but splitting for the first time into Niki Smith who loved Vinny Wolek. 

Days (obviously) 😂😂😂

Christmas 1995, Midnight Mass in Aremid: John and Marlena were holding candles, and they joined their two flames together. And Kristen saw it and looked all pissed off 😂

I also remember Hope getting caught in the avalanche.

OH yeah I forgot Days, my first memory of Days is Bo and Hope on the boat about to sail away, mid 80s

For daytime, probably Santa Barbara - Eden describing a memory of a murder. I think that must have been part of the Robert storyline. For primetime, probably something from Dallas or Falcon Crest. I remember being horrified by Maggie's drowning. 

They go hand in hand as the first vivid memories I have from Guiding Light:

• Reva "pushing" Annie down the stairs
• Reva in the cave Edmund traps her in as water fills it while she's in the blue dress

These are a bit vague coming from 2-3 year old me especially for Y&R but:

Y&R: I swear probably Victor/Hope on the farm Summer 1993

B&B: 1994, Sheila “pushing” Jay Garvin to his death. Lol 

AW's Pat Matthews in a jail cell, awaiting her trial for murdering Tom Baxter, and her growing relationship with her attorney, John Randolph.  Probably 1964.  I was five years old.  

 

AMC:  My first big storyline I remember was Janet coming to town and throwing Natalie down the well in 1991. I have flash memories of characters and things that happened in 1990.

GH: Flash memories of really being into brothers AJ and Jason in the early to mid-90s (Kanan in the role). Robin and Stone too.

OLTL: Tina/Cain and their relationship; Luna/Max; Alex. I was really into those characters back then in the early to mid-90s.

DAYS: Marlena's possession haha.

ATWT: Luke/Noah, which I purposefully watched given where I was in life at the time ~2007.

GL: Faint memories of Alan-Michael/Frank/Eleni, which intrigued me, but I really didn't have an opportunity to follow the storyline. I mostly remember loving the early 90s intro for GL. Otherwise, I just started watching full episodes of 1995-1996 GL this year, and I'm loving it! 

First soap opera memory... Sheila stalking Stephanie and then fighting with her and falling in the pool. I was sooo little then. But I remember calling Sheila - the dark haired evil lady. I watched it with my grandma while she was knitting.

Lol I always called Sheila that too when I was little!!  and Sally to me was the “crazy big red haired lady” 😂😂

My first memories, as a teen, 15 which was an awful age if you ask me, but, anyway, were of AW and of DAYS. But, AW is vague but DAYS is sharp. 1966, Susan Hunter (Denise Alexander) and Julie #3 (whoever?) were best friends. Julie was dating, or courting or secretly engaged to David Martin (also whoever?), who was 3-5 years older than she & Susan. They were high school age. He was college age. Julie, as we probably all know, was living with her grandparents, Tom & Alice. Tom thought that David was too old for Julie. I believe he also thought they were too serious about each other & his suspicions were dead on. But, he made the mistake of forbidding Julie to see him. Right, as headstrong as she was?!!! So, he just drove their relationship into secrecy, creating lies & a heightened sense of "us against the world" since they had to sneak around to see each other. This also meant there were too many times when in the evening David would be alone & Julie would be stuck at home, also alone. David & Julie were actively planning to run off & get married. I think they had a fight. David went out & got very drunk. Susan had had a falling out with her parents & also was getting very drunk at the same bar. OF COURSE, the two of them fell into conversation, which led to them hooking up, which led to her being pregnant. (Bill Bell wrote this.) The 3 of them decided together that Susan &  David would marry so the child would be legitimate & after the child was born, they'd divorce & Julie & David would get back on track to get married. Susan gave birth to a boy, who she named Richard after her father. He was called Dickie. There was an argument over a swing set that David got, with Susan saying the boy was far too young & too small. One day David was supposed to be watching the baby who he had out on this disputed swing & he wasn't paying attention briefly & the baby fell off the swing & broke  his neck & died. 

This has already gotten too long.

Cutting to the chase. Susan went nuts & killed David. "Uncle Mickey" was her lawyer. He used temporary insanity & it worked, he got her off. 

The two who had been the very best of friends now were the bitterest of enemies. And, of course, by this time, Julie (#4 now, SSH) was pregnant by David with another boy child. They were set for years of nemesis-level hatred. 

(In May 1970 Susan introduced Doug Williams to Julie, with the evilest of intents but it backfired.)

Edit to Add: The camera panned to that swing, bare & barely moving over & over & over.  That dam*ed swing drove me crazy. I cried. Bill Bell SWORE he would never kill another infant. Apparently he got a lot of mail.

Heheheh that's soo sweet. 😂 I used to call Brooke... The "yellow haired woman... that I like". I was a baby! 🍼

My grandma would respond - "You don't like her! She is like your aunt... An easy woman!" She was team Taylor till her last day. May she rest in peace. 

My earliest soap memories are of GL and Reva driving off that bridge, traumatized me for life LOL.

My soap memories begin in 1994, when my grandma retired and I was 5. She was an ABC fan. GH was something she watched daily, and she'd catch AMC and OLTL as often as she could (sometimes she'd end up taking a nap for slightly longer than mine was). Grandma never got into Loving.

Anyway, the first things I definitely remember watching:

GH -- Brenda taking a bath at the Quartermaine mansion and considering which guy she was gonna end up with (A.J., Jason, Ned, Jagger, or Sonny).

AMC -- Kendall wheeling in Richard Fields. I also have a vague memory of Phoebe looking through a photo album and recalling family members ice skating. The memories become much clearer with the summer of 1994, and the return of Janet.
