Sony must've really *loved* JG's pitch for this story because they hired BF, brought MM back (for a bit), invested in new sets, promos, etc. It's a pretty significant investment. 

Hopefully, this story delivers after the build up.

The running wild speculation is that Cane is doing some grand gesture as Dumas in order to impress Lily.  I think that's ridiculous; but I'm listing all the theories, and that's one theory.

There is also a theory (despite the enormous age discrepancy)
that Dumas is a pseudonym for Tucker.
I don't agree with that one, but I'm also listing it with all the theories here.

1) Why on earth would Victor Newman or Jack Abbott care about lowlife Cane?
2) Is it really possible that con artist Cane has become a mysterious billionaire?
3) If Dumas is really Cane, why doesn't the all-knowing Victor know this?

4) If Dumas and Cane are the same person, then the show has completely changed the character to fit the plot, making Cane into some powerful yet debonair brilliant businessman.  Total rewrite.

Since they are going to all this trouble to cast Billy Flynn on Y&R, then I doubt that his character will be murdered (regardless of whatever character he's playing, they wouldn't kill him off this soon.)

If Cane and Dumas are two separate people, then I could believe the show might kill off Cane, but then again, why would anyone bother about Cane?

So, I have no idea who will be murdered.

If all this is for a Cane re-cast what a waste!

Cane the Chancellor-wanna-be is all played out. Is there going to be yet another battle over Chancellor Industries without an actual Chancellor in the battle? Why bother?

I'm tired of all the Chancellor-adjacent characters thinking they have some divine right to Chancellor Industries. Devon, Tucker, Nikki, Billy, and now adding Cane back in again? Why not an actual Chancellor?  Jabot isn't interesting if there aren't any Abbots, and Newman Enterprise is nothing without real Newmans. Why does Griffith think it any different for Chancellor.

I realize they won't bring back Phillip III since they won't write for gay characters. They don't seem interested in hot Chance even for sex scences.  Why not have discover Phillip III had a unknown son prior to Chance then?  But it looks like Griffith is caught up forever, in these mind numbingly boring, no-Chancellor-bloodline-characters-allowed  in any Chancellor Industry storylines.

I really can't believe AD will be Cane. If it's true that story is DOA.

Or is Josh going to give a past or present character an unknown son?

 

No question that some cash was spent on sets.

Cane will definitely be DOA if Dumas turns out to be Cane. Doesn’t make sense and would be a pointless exercise but that hasn’t stopped the JG before from doing pointless stories.

The other theories outside of Cane I have seen floated around is Dumas is John Abbott III, Brad Carlton’s lost son, or that Billy Flynn’s Dumas will be revealed as the real Adam in hiding since Chloe blew him up and Mark Grossman’s Adam has been an imposter. 
 

But any way you slice it, the story has dragged on wayyy too long, the buildup has been severely lacking and it’s not even interesting, mainly thanks to this low-energy writing of JG.

Update that this version #3 of the promo on youtube ...
is geo-blocked outside the USA, so you'd need to watch via VPN.

Update again:  the show took the version #3 promo down after a week but...

You can just watch all the scenes in promo #1 and promo #2 and you'll get all the content from version #3.
Promo #2 on instagram is missing the scene of Sharon spotting Nick&Phyllis in the maze.  That missing scene is in promo #1.
