This.

The 1994 telecast had some of my favorite winners with Zaslow finally getting his due, Melissa Hayden, and all three major players in the Marty rape storyline getting recognized (HBS, Haskell, Howarth).

1991 included a segment "They Started On Soaps".

1991 included a Lifetime Achievement Emmy to P&G

1997 included a tribute to Irna Phillips.

1997 included a tribute to GL & its 60th anniversary.

1997 Writing: Regis introduced from AMC John Callahan & Eva Larue who presented for the Best Writing with nominees AMC, DAYS, GH & Y&R & it happened, a tie! So unusual & the tie was between AMC & Y&R so both of Irna's proteges gave an acceptance speech: Agnes Nixon for AMC & Bill Bell of course, for Y&R. AMC 4th win, 15 writers on their team. Y&R their 4th win with 10 writers on their team. The tie made it exciting.

I haven't gotten to this one yet but I have it emblazoned on my memory. At that time they were finishing up at my forever favorite soap, ANOTHER WORLD. There was no tribute. There was no mention of that 35 year old soap being cancelled basically AT THAT MOMENT. Stephen Schnetzer was at the mic to introduce & he mentioned. Same, again, later, from Linda Dano. And, then, GH won for Best Show. At the mic, accepting, Wendy Riche, her first words were about it, this is a paraphrase but she said something to the effect of our thoughts go out to our friends in Brooklyn, Another World, God bless all of you. Then she went on with her regular spiel about GH. Now, I ask you is that a classy dame or what?

My pleasure!

@Contessa Donatella

I watched 1997,

I thought it was nice. I noticed how often celebrity fans (Reba/Aretha) were used in the past telecast. do you know why they stopped using them?

I loved the AMC/Y&R tie. In your opinion, what makes a show a better choice for the best show over writing? I know a few shows where they submitted the same episode.

I thought it was quite a good year. Well produced.

I really literally have no idea. I am of the impression that whoever is producing has huge power in making decisions about, well, everything. However, I am also aware that a big chunk of soap fandom would always complain so bitterly about anyone on the show performing BESIDES daytime actors. Me, I loved hearing about Reba's personal soap pedigree & I have long been aware of Aretha being a "famous fan".

I loved the heck out of the AMC/Y&R, Aggie/BillSr tie!!!

I think it has to have either an issue or a theme, crisp dialog well-delivered, some romance & some amazing climax that can be satisfying even to people unfamiliar with the show.

What do you think? And, what does your last line mean?

I genuinely do not know. I have always been curious about it. How can a show win for best writing and then lose best show with the same episode?

The episode I would submit for best show would have multi-storylines and/or be event-focused. A variety of types of storylines, mystery, romance, etc. Top-tier performances with smart writing.

What name, Kane?

Writers voting for one. Others voting for the other.

Edit to Add: You had said, " I know a few shows where they submitted the same episode." and you meant that Show & Writing were the same reels but it wasn't clear to me on first reading because I had no idea who 'they" were. So, I asked, meaning to be literal (for once?) about what your last line meant.

Then, you misread me & came up with what does your last name mean?

This to me is hilarious. Neither of us blubbers, or stutters, or says half a phrase & then stops & stares off into space, so how did we bumble this tiny parsec of communication so badly!!!

My username is because on DAYS when Romulus was lying to JohnBlacktoBe about being an international jewel thief a bunch of us were reminded of Emma Peel on the original avengers

    • Maeve Kincaid said in interviews that she misses slapping Jordan Clarke's face..something along the lines "He knew how to take a slap!"   Or voodoo dolls..LOL!
    • Staci Greason was in Paris during this live tribute, which would have been in the middle of the night where she was. So Fairman arranged to pretape Greason earlier in the same day, and then spliced her part into the end of the video after the live feed, and it's all on the same youtube.
    • Agree to disagree. I like it. No doubt it's different. It's supposed to be. Is it dated? Yes, but then that's natural, it's from 1977. I think that reviewer needed to watch a few more episodes. It is clever but not precocious. The role reversal IMO works & well. The best thing I could advise anyone interested, is to try it for yourself, you can always quit it if you don't like it. As much of it as some of us were able to gain access to are up on the Internet Archive & also on my Rumble acct. If you need further directions, PM me.
    • This was really amazing to watch.   They said that a lot of stuff was filmed out-of-order, over a few weeks. John's memorial service was filmed a few days before Drake died, and then there was a prescheduled pause (the studio being dark for a haitus week).  So they got the news of his passing during the break. But some of the recent stuff at John's bedside (such as his death) was filmed after that hiatus break, so not long after Drake died.

I don't know how the actors got through it, especially Deidre. They said regarding episodes airing week of June 9th stuff, it will seem less dark to viewers, as there were some (relatively)  lighthearted moments. (not giving spoilers here).  But I guess Drake was still alive when those scenes were filmed, even though they knew he'd pass soon.
    • Thinking about where the current Cassadines are.  Alexis, Molly, Kristina, and Scout are currently active on canvas. Technically, Ace is on canvas, although we never see him. Jake is in school in Spain? Valentin and Charlotte are currently off-canvas, I think? I've lost track. I thought Valentin was in a prison somewhere, but then I remember reading something about Charlotte, and deciding if she'd live with Valentin or Lulu, but I don't remember what was decided.  I'm unclear on where Valentin is now. Nikolas is in prison. Did I miss anyone?
    • Thank you! Also, can't seem to find Oct thru December '73. I thought it was here at one time.

    • To me, he was her best romantic pairing!
    • In 1986, the writers had Zane shot twice in March and August when he died.  It’s like they didn’t know what to do with the character after they married him to Felicia.
