Sidwell doesn't seem like the type of father who would accept his son being gay.

Really? A few months ago, before Marco was introduced, Sidwell had some scenes where he seemed to be flirting pretty hard with Lucas. Now, I guess I could see Sidwell being disappointed like, "I raised you to be a fey bisexual like me! But you're just so butch, Marco!"

I must have missed him flirting with Lucas. He did say to Lucy today that Marco has great taste like him when he saw Marco with Lucas.

I can't help think how weird it is that since Drew is member of Congress, within the GHverse, that video Lulu and other people are taking of him may end up as national news and (given the small difference in seats between Democrats and Republicans IRL in the House) could affect important health care legislation. Not that we know what party Drew is in of course.

I feel like Drew is definitely a Republican lol.

The show seems to want us to think Sidwell is this classy, cultured, open-minded man when I don't care.  He's still an international supervillain and evil guy.  Last time I checked Natalia was a horrible personal not an actual criminal.  I am glad Sidwell supports his son's choices, but I don't know why the show is spinning him as a person with a good heart or whatever they are doing here.

They’re giving him the Sonny whitewashing treatment.

But, what are we to think about watching him dance on the parapet as the explosion went off in Sonny's penthouse burning Michael alive?

I'm not sure even the writers know what they're trying to achieve with Sidwell. Most of the time they write him as a Bond villain. But one who has a PFLAG sticker on one of the rotors of his private helicopter, I guess.

I don't think it is very complicated. It's just that he is okay about his son, not a bigot, and everything else is game on, in terms of villainy. Why is this a problem to us? Maybe it's not.

It's odd though because Sidwell seems to be Sonny's current direct rival, so they are just two misunderstood criminals fighting for the greater good or something lol

It seems like the show is trying to make Natalia look worse somehow.  We don't really need more reason to dislike Natalia and nothing is going to make me like Sidwell.

I think it gets confusing because of the mixing of genre codes. Sure, a realistic character might contain multitudes and might do bad things but also be an enthusiastic supporter of his gay son. But in nearly every other way, from writing to performance choices, Sidwell is not a realistic character--he can only be perceived as a comic book villain or James Bond villain.

It's like if you had a drawing of Donald Duck, but the bottom half of his face was replaced with a photograph of an actual duck's beak. It would be really really weird, right?

Sidwell the comic book James Bond villain, underwriting the Nurses Ball -- just another ridiculous idea -- a replacement for Sonny the mobster.

Sonny had Stone as a valid reason for supporting the early years of Nurses Ball being focused on AIDS research, so I understood that... back when the entire focus of the event was AIDS (and not stupid red carpet sparkly gowns).

But still, it annoys me to see Sonny portrayed in recent years as some magnanimous benefactor to Port Charles society.

I gagged at Laura gushing appreciation to Sonny for him being present at the dedication of the Monica Q cardiac wing.  And then Lucy introducing Sidwell as the NB underwriter.  I tried to watch the April 1st anniversary episode but all that nonsense was so annoying.

/end rant

I said they would do this when they hired him, lol. He's the new Cyrus who will mope about his family woes while terrorizing more people for the next 2-5 years as the show tries to have it both ways. Much of what he's done so far (including eavesdropping in the church) can be planned by simply taking old breakdowns and doing CTRL-R on any mention of "Cyrus" and adding "Sidwell".

You 100% called it.

I thought the show might try to differentiate them a bit.  But, no, it's almost the exact same plotting and we didn't even get a breather in between the two.  Sidwell is just more suave and richer and supports the LGBTQ community.
