You are fortunate to be unfamiliar with Body&Soul.  That was a horrendous soap-within-soap from Carlivati on DAYS last year.  It was disparaging of soaps (but not in a fun way. It was done in a mean way). It was disrespectful of the actors.  And so many stupid things that Carlivati thought were clever/cute/funny but were simply annoying.  It went on for months and months and months.  And the characters who were doctors and other prominent members of the Salem community were randomly working a second job at Body&Soul.   It was awful and made many of us not want to watch at all.  After that had finally finished filming, Deidre Hall implied relief in her comments.

B&B and Y&R have been begging for cancellation with the quality of storylines they've put out in the past few years.

I think The Edge of Night has been off the air too long to work as a revival. Maybe the niche core fan base is still string, but I'm not sure the wider populous of soap audience is that familiar with it.

To me me, AMC and OLTL are the best options for revival. they seem to be mentioned much more in layman circles than ATWT or GL.

But again, despite our rebbo era, a lot of of the writers and actors who made cancelled soaps special are dead. Reviving some of these soaps would essentially be name recognition only. Maybe it's time to just make new soaps and build a new generation of fans, and characters.

This is a premature question, and I don't want to jinx anything, but how long do we predict Beyond the Gates stays on the air?

I think ATWT and AMC were probably the two soaps that had the most mainstream mentions over the years (although with ATWT it was further in the past than AMC). AMC did keep name recognition to the end, which is why I wish the TV movie deal was going through. OLTL is still in a place where you could bring the show back, maybe have Erika and Robin (if they are willing) in some capacity, but OLTL was always treated as the unwanted stepchild by ABC.

I'd take GL back, gladly, but I am not expecting it.

Edge of Night is just a very cool soap name, and you could easily bring back the show's format for a new era, with a few small ties to the past if you want. That's why I'd bring the show back...just make sure it's with a strong mystery writer, even if no one can replace Henry Slesar.

I would love to see a 30-minute soap on ABC akin to Melrose Place and the German soap "Unter Uns" centering on the family that owns an apartment building; also, the smaller apartment can have young adults starting out in the world and other diverse residents staying there and working in the neighborhood. And with maybe about ten to fifteen sets, it could keep costs down and have about two to three daytime vets playing key roles and the rest being new to the genre too.

Also, you could always write out characters when actors want to leave or if its storyline dictated.
