Did you find Andre/Dani love scene off the charts heat generating? I was totally down with the R&B slow jam in the background.

Dead at Silk Press Sheila.

Wow, what a ride the first week has been. I thought I was going to watch the first week only but I want to see how the rest plays out.

We’ll see how it plays out over time, but my feeling is while they’re respecting the typical soap tropes, they are also intentional about deviating from them as well

I feel that way about MVJ too. After years of writing for mostly white characters on GH and B&B, it must be refreshing for her to write for characters from her own community and different from what she was told was the norm on those other soaps.

You can tell how much has been locked inside of her for years after working/writing for other producers whose visions may not have aligned with her. And to think, this week was all Val Jean; next week, Guza Jnr's material comes into play, and I'm excited to see it.

I want to challenge all of us to say what were the 5 most important things that happened this first week.

1. Dani's slap of Hayley in front of everyone at the very end of S1E1.

2. Natural approach to sex & physicality including talk, after.

3. The Fairmont Crest community at the wedding even if they were dressed in black with sour expressions on their faces & refusing to stand for the bride processional.

4. The non-lethal discharge of a handgun at the wedding.

5. Naomi's confrontation with Bill. "My father is dead."

Oh, God yes. I know I am in the minority, but I love the Y&R sax red opening. But I'm bias since it was me learning about and liking and trying to follow Y&R as a regular viewer when I was just a teenager aka always at school. lol.

I really love how they built up to Andre and Dani throughout Thursday's episode. And just how it felt like a natural seduction. And just their vibe...right down to the slow dancing...just made me think of black people romance in the late 90s when it was not unusual to see the lady being serenaded by the guy...or the r&b band/singer that was popular during the time. For me, it was unexpected and therefore magical. Even though I know Andre is a player, but I was not expecting all of THAT. He was smooth. I wasn't hating on Dani at all.

NOW I was hating on her kicking him out of bed the next morning. He clearly, for all his player vibe, liked her just a lliittttttle bit. And it was nice to see a satisfied smile on her face when she woke up to him watching her. Or perhaps my mind is just a little on old school romance. Andre and Dani were giving.

Yeah, Cheap called Leslie that and I hollered at work during a brief break. lol.

Like someone just said online today, BTG has a lot going on and multiple storylines and yet it does not feel like another show with its multiple storylines and quick cuts. Proving that it can be done with good character development, good pacing, and STILL be soapy. And this is just focusing on character and being the FIRST week. Just wait until they find their rhythm AND add on the ability to plot going hand-in-hand with character...if that makes sense.

Agree. It's been fun to read.

I feel the same as well which makes it deliciously refreshing.

You can see the thread. You can sense the plotting. Just the fact that so many storylines from sprung from the main plot of the Duprees vs Bill/Hayley. It's like an umbrella tale and yet not one at all.

Currently watching todsy’s ep, and Dani is dangerously close to being annoying af now. Groveling for Bill was embarrassing and it just makes all of her snappy comebacks and btchy attitude all week look ridiculous and pitiful. She is not the bad btch she wants everyone to think she is, and now a gun? Girl please go find you something to do. And not your sister’s nephew. We need an episode or two without her just so other characters’ POVs are developed more. Idk if it’s because it’s Friday, but I see her and I want someone to smack her.

”I hope my forced presence is a dark cloud that has a negative impact on the rest of your miserable lives.” Girl, please get a damn life. They should’ve just let her go to Paris. And stay there.

I feel for Nicole because you know she’s spent most of her life dealing with her sister’s histrionic nonsense.

That's what made the Ashley/Derek story seem so out of place. Maybe keep that to the second week. The first we see of Ashley is a nurse at  Laura's bedside and then in Wk 2 we find out more.

Same with the brief 'role play' story with Vanessa. That can be introduced down the line.

My main beef ATM is the gay story.

First there is no chem b/w the two. Martin's acting is subpar. To have them married with teen kids seems a missed opportunity to explore 2 guys living together but realizing the goals are different. It all seemed a little too hetero for me. And the lack of affection when other characters are cavorting/kissing seemed suspect. Defenders will say it illustrates the gulf b/w them but that might work had Martin rebuffed Smitty or just gave a lifeless kiss.

I didn't even think of that! OMG, another soap we can do episode counts for! Yay!

I'm not committing myself, but I think I'll do a re-watch this weekend to at least help it get started for anyone who might want to do it.

    • I really CAN'T with the two dolls comment. It's so cynical. So disgusting. A billionaire telling normal working people this is just... you can't make this sh-t up. That's comics villain level of vile.
    • This episode was on fire and definitely the best the show's done so far.  And of course the two big reasons were TMG and Ambyr Michelle who were phenomenal.  This could be both their Emmy reels.  Sad thing is they will probably be in the Supporting category so only one of them will win.   Claybon was pretty good when Martin confronted his dad. I'm glad to see he's improving.  I also liked that scene with Andre with Eva, showing some compassion with his cousin.  Now that the secret is out, Eva and Leslie can start to interact with more of the cast, like at the end of today's episode with Leslie showing up at the Dupree's.  And hopefully that will help the show be not as boring - this storyline was the only one that was truly interesting, and now it gets to branch out.  Minor nitpicks: bad editing during the Eva/Leslie/Ted scene by themselves, and when Bill was rubbing Hayley's feet.  They gotta clean this up.
    • It's the best episode ... in months.
    • I'm sorry to respond so late. It's just this is the first time I'm seeing this. You are amazing! Thank you!
    • I like KKL's hair straight, but I also like the waves. I have no issues with her hair... AN and JMW on the other hand... have had some rough moments hair wise the past few months.

    • I think I can help with pointing to a period where to start watching. The show is available in youtube in multiple playlists that I'm sure someone already sent to you, so I won't do that. You can easily find them also by typing Edge of night and the year you are searching on the youtube search engine. Mid 1979 till the end (1984) are pretty much 90 percent there thanks to some amazing uploaders. I would suggest for a new viewer a starting episode of 6077 - it's the episode that begins the Mansion of the damned storyline. Before that... it's the end of a prior storyline and I found it very confusing and hard to watch, because you are getting the climax of something that was happening long time before you start. You can start watching from 6077 - the episode where Nola gets the offer to do the movie script... and just go from there. Once you watch this episode... you won't be able to stop.  Quite frankly if someone had told me to start with this episode... I would have spared myself the struggle of the other 30-40 episodes before that. If you need help with links or playlists... I can also help, and you can message me anytime.

    • I haven't had 1 free second the past few days, so I'm gonna have to catch up tomorrow. Judging by the amount of people posting here... I'm getting the feeling it's going to be GOOD.
