Doug & Julie, introduced May 5, 1970. Separated by Death 11-29-24.

I keep trying to both edit & write-up the episode. So far I've only been able to cut 17 minutes & the write-up is half-way & stuck, Why is this so hard?! Doug & Julie were essentially my first ship! The very first couple I found to root for.

I just finished watching last week's episodes. Thursday & Friday's episodes were incredibly sad and so well done. Every other episode of DAYS in 2024 pales in comparison. Susan Seaforth Hayes is just the epitome of strength and grace.

Watching these episodes today are especially bittersweet with the news of Wayne Northrop's passing. We truly lost 3 great DAYS legends this year

As sad as this is, from a marketing perspective, I can see why they chose to do it like this. Hope the numbers on Peacock are off the charts today.

Today was beautiful. You could tell that there was a lot of care put into today’s episode. And Friday’s episode as well. It was great seeing so many flashbacks, so many of which I don’t think have ever been seen before. And it was also great seeing Gloria Loring, Maree Cheatham and especially Stephen Schnetzer back on my TV again.

It’s almost unbelievable how effortlessly they fit back onto the canvas. You’d think they hadn’t been gone for as long as they were. The three of them discussing their pasts with their scene partners and also how much Doug was a part of their lives were some of the best scenes today. Btw, didn’t Liz and Marie make peace already? I can’t remember. I’m looking forward to their scenes tomorrow. And I wish more of their storyline was available to see. It sounds like it was a really good mess lol

I also liked the little seed that was planted with Shawn and Belle and I can’t wait to see their storyline play out. They deserve to be on the canvas and I’m glad that Days finally fixed the mistake they made in letting them go.

And I’m also glad that they finally remembered the time capsule and that Ciara was able to open it so easily. I wonder if they’re going to follow the original plan, or if Ron changed it.

I didn’t expect to see Peyton Meyer as young Doug today though and while I didn’t dislike it, I also feel like it wasn’t really necessary either, especially since there are so many episodes of Bill Hayes that exist today. But yeah, I’m still interested in seeing what’s going to happen with his character. He’s gorgeous, btw.

And yeah, I guess we needed an update about Ciara’s baby serial killers too lol

Julie is the oldest because Addie had her, got divorced, moved to Europe married Mr. Olson, and had Stephen. The confusion may be that he is described as Ben Olson's oldest son, which is true, but Ben is not Julie's father.

I am totally not an expert, and I don't want to spread disinformation, but I always thought Stephen was referenced as Julie's half-brother.  And that she held a grudge against Addie for preferring Stephen, while leaving her in Salem to live with Tom and Alice.   Looking back, Addie may have married Ben while in Salem, and they moved to Paris, but I assumed she had Stephen while overseas.

Now, I am intrigued, and I hope someone can fill us in with the truth.

Teen Steven was in a few of the 1960s episodes, played by Flip Mark.  He's Julie's full sibling, but Hope's half-brother.  Ben Olson was the father of both Julie and Steven.  Adult Hope has never been seen with him.

    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him in the mags once FV clearly took a shine to him. Frank's priorities are bright and blazing in one color. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field or explore quads with both with very different people - Emma with a scheming young man (of color), Gio with possibly Trina or someone else, or even a boy. Then maybe put them back together, who knows. But of course none that will happen.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
