GH: Legacy Character Recast

Y'all are wild for this. To think my terrible friend @Darn was castigating me over text the other day for suggesting Lucas return and get in hot water for inadvertently hooking up with Brenda's scheming gay son who he doesn't realize is a) Brenda's boy and b) 17.

Lucas is like Aiden's cousin! Uncle! Something like that! He's also got nearly 30 years on him. A hook-up or scandal with some twinky ne'er-do-well is one thing on a soap, but pairing these two up for real? I can't see that at all.

Technically, they're only related legally, guys. And as I stated, if Guiding Light could sell Jonathan & Tammy, then a little Aiden & Lucas interaction could be passible. Again, it's all hyperbole at this point, 'cause who knows if Disney would allow this to happen at all.

Passions and Days of our Lives have done far worse in that regard. Even though General Hospital is normal in comparison, let's again remember that the two aren't blood-related. Yes, they are cousins, and I'm not saying it'll happen, but I find the timing of Lucas' return and Aiden's recasting with an older actor to be on purpose. I do overthink things, though. I'll admit that.

Unless GH has a plan for Lucas that doesn't include Brad... this change just made me question their intentions.

I just figured it had to do with Lucas mentoring his coming-out. I will be mortified if they tried to pair them. Lucas has been treated for decades like part of the Spencer family proper. And that's not even getting to the age gap. (I don't mind age gap romances unlike some of the puritanical stuff out there, but this is too much on top of everything else)

But the implications are just as skeevie as you are all attempting to sell a simple idea of a story as.

As @Errol has stated: they're not bio-related, and Lucas has not really been in the Spencer orbit for quite some time. The implications of a crush-type of storyline is there with these castings happening.

It would be massively disrespectful to Bobbie’s memory and how hard she fought for Lucas basically his entire childhood for the show to go “well they don’t share DNA”.

Not to mention how offensive it is adoptees and gay people in general frankly lol Aiden has a crush on the only other gay person he knows who also happens to be his cousin. Weird stuff. If they go there…I mean, whatever floats your boat I guess!

It is, but let's not pretend this isn't the soap that tried selling to us that Natalia, the homophobe, was the victim of her own words being leaked to the press.

Again, had they tried to introduce Tobias beyond a one-off mention, the storyline would be telling itself. But Tobias seemed to be a "Hey, we need this scene. Make up a name!"

Yeah There were a couple of episodes several years ago, when Aiden was 8 years old (yes eight), when Elizabeth suspected that Aiden might possibly be gay.  She asked Lucas for advice on how to make this feel normal for Aiden if he was indeed gay, so that he'd feel safe discussing it whenever he'd be ready.  I think they discussed books for Elizabeth to read as a parent so that she could be a good ally.

At that time, Lucas and Brad were still a happy couple. Elizabeth wanted Aiden to be around Lucas and Brad just being a normal happy couple, so that Aiden would see that this could be possible for him someday if he was indeed gay.  Aiden wanted to go ice skating.  Elizabeth and Lucas quietly arranged it so that Lucas and Brad would just be "coincidentally* at the ice rink (or frozen pond or whatever) skating .. at the same time that Elizabeth and Aiden would be there.  This would give Aiden the opportunity to see Lucas and Brad naturally together.  They set it up, and it did happen, and Lucas skated over to say hi.

Lucky and Lucas are first cousins, as Luke and Bobbie were siblings.  That makes Aiden and Lucas "first-cousins-once-removed" legally, which is still cousins for me.

It was pretty clear from those scenes when Aiden was eight, that Elizabeth regarded Lucas to be her peer/mentor in how to be an ally, and as an older relative mentor for Aiden.

When Aiden came out to Elizabeth when he was 13, (last year?) ... someone tweeted out those scenes from when he was eight, so I watched them then (last year).

I wish they had kept him younger. It was a chance to tell a story about a young gay male on an America soap that has not happened before. I wanted this all the way back to the bullying story with Charlotte. It would have been good material for the adults and the kids. Plus they could have progressed into something like Heartstopper, a sweet story that soaps have yet to tell for gay characters too. Now he looks like a more traditional hunky teen and I fear we will barely seen a story or if we do it will be same old.
