Sam is expendable because the show isn't writing for her.

I can see that the majority here aren't crazy about Kelly Monaco, but I like her. I also like legacy characters who have been around for years and even decades. I think this is a really poor decision, and I think there's going to be backlash -- not that Frank will care.

Killing off one of Alexis's daughters is not the way to go.

I remember the allegations that Frank wanted to keep LH more than once when Kelly allegedly was being difficult during COVID. There was an illness story to explain all that after but I still suspect it had to do at least in part with masking up as was rumored, and if so I'd have fired her for that permanently. But again, as both caroline and I have said, what is the point? For me Sam has been tired since before the 2010s.

I do think Kelly worked very hard early this year when PM came aboard. She made me buy into the Dante stuff. But it was still a C-pairing, and Sam was still surplus to requirements.

FV should be fired for lots of things. Not for dumping Sam, lol. He has slit many people's throats over guarantees and money. When he tires of them he just waits for them to give him an excuse.

Yeah there is a round of rumors on Twitter that several cast members, all women, were asked to take pay cuts. Most of the top earners are apparently the top line women on the cast. Not sure if I believe any of that, I’m sure Steve and MB are well compensated.

This kind of stuff reminds me immediately of Guiding Light under Ellen Wheeler. Zimmer stood her ground about renegotiating her contract before it was due.

What makes her a legacy character to you?  She randomly became Alexis's daughter when Sam was 30 plus.  Molly and Kristina are legacy characters to me because they were born on screen and basically grew up on screen.  Sam isn't?  She's a retcon daughter that came up out of the blue.  Truly not being argumentative because I agree she's a long time vet.  I just wouldn't call her a legacy character.

I like her, but I would have more understanding if they'd recast... she finally has some story potential with Lulu and Jason both back (and even Rick for that matter, if he sticks around), they have invested a bit in Rocco and Danny, and the Davis girls have just suffered a catastrophic loss, so it just feels like a really bad idea to cut her permanently.

And she was right to do it, no matter what anyone might say now to defend the honor of Marley Hudson. They tried to blame Zimmer for JVD's exit, which was bullshit.

Honestly the way this was getting gassed up online I was expecting Mo, Laura or Steve. All of which I would be fine with lol, but I do think losing MB would be a serious body blow to the show's numbers no matter how much I personally would be happy to see Sonny go. You have to prep the show longer for an exit that big and reposition enough of the canvas. Whereas with Laura, I like her and I think she's done a good job but while I'd be shocked I wouldn't necessarily blink, not unless they intend to kill off Carly which would be a mistake. I would just say, fine, bring back Sarah Brown lol.

I do think she is a legacy character, but they only made her one to anchor Sam deeper in the show. I do think she has a place there that is legitimate, I like her family relationships (it's probably the aspect of Sam I most like) and how they built up her place in Alexis and her sisters' lives, but I have also been tired of Sam since the late 2000s, and I wasn't exactly a fan of her to begin with. I think she had a slight new lease on life with Jason gone in 2012 and potentially with Billy Miller's Drew, but none of that lasted long. She has been cruising for decades.

    • Looking at those totals it seems most contract actors are on a 1 or 2 week average guarantee. I assume contracts are still operating on 13 week cycles so you would have to know the particular actors contract starting date to work out their guarantee. The question remains as to what actors listed as contract are actually recurring? Bryton ?
    • Yep, that scene was at the conclusion of the Derek Thurston vs George Packard storyline, when Kay decided neither of them should run Chancellor.  By the time she put Victor in charge, Victor had been on the show for months & months with his Rolls Royce, his ranch, and Newman Enterprises.  SONY released some Y&R "trivia cards" in the late 1980s, and one of the questions was "who brought Victor Newman to Genoa City?" The answer on the back of the card is "Kay Thurston, to run Chancellor Industries", and it's a wrong answer lol.
    • I think someone said it did exist, but I can't remember.
    • The bit with the scarf reminds me of the fabled stuffed animal scene with Rick and Phillip. (That wasn't debunked, was it?)
    • Ohh, interesting. I instantly gravitated towards her in that episode. Of course I'm already hooked and want to know why she was trying to poison that older lady, but then how did the older lady know to switch the mugs so Susan drank her own poison...  but I have too many timelines I'm watching right now haha.  Oh, Bolger is definitely hot. I didn't realize he was on GL haha. I knew him from OLTL and other primetime stuff.
    • This is a effin shame. Eff Trump and eff the bastards that enable him.
    • I 100% agree but I think this is due to how the show is structured. It's a one family show which means there are no people in her age range that could be used as friends or contemporaries of her. The show definitely needs a second main family. I am glad someone finally said this. Especially now that the cast is gelling in their roles, he stands out like a sore thumb. No energy, no chemistry with anybody. He is just there.  I thought that was odd as well! The previous scene would've worked better as a tag for the credits.
    • That's the one and only Carrie Nye (Mrs. Dick Cavett) as Susan Piper, a deadly realtor. I don't want to spoil a lot if you ever want to see those episodes. She returns as another character in 2003. I think Grant has aged well and he always did a good job at being ripped without going too far, but he was never entirely my cup of tea either. I did think John Bolger was hot.
    • Totally agree. KKL looks great! It makes the Widge groveling so bizarre. Brooke needs to leave FC and with $B's/Liam's funding launch a rival fashion house with Hope, Rick, Katie and a secret designer. The best scenario is that Rick has been absent because he's been with very much alive C2, who is revealed on the runway as the secret designer. It'll never happen because B&B is comfortable just focusing on FC and the Forresters Marones v. Logans. But it'd been so much more interesting if the Spencers/Logans united.
