He just does it so well. Especially in this storyline.

Normally, it would bug me that we are going back to Victor manipulating his family. It's like a lazy trope that JG likes to do, and I know I've mentioned how OVER that I am. I am also sure that I've mentioned that JG seems to love the Abbotts more than the Newmans because when the Abbotts are on the frontburner, you can feel it in the writing that JG cares. He plays their beats. The story...silly or not...appears to have some structure to it. There appears to be actual interest. It doesn't hurt that the actors/actresses involved usually bring their A game.

Perhaps it because this storyline is Victor wanting payback on Jack helping Nikki during her relapse...but this storyline plays so different from Victor's usual manipulation. How he weaved a web to back Audra to take over Tucker's company and play up Kyle's insecurities (which was in a stupid storyline and the only false note on the Abbott story front for JG) to get him to be co-head of said company which is for cosmetics...and people STILL don't know it's Victor behind it all yet was very well done. And all to go after Jabot. Again. I felt this storyline has been thought out for JG in connection to the Newmans. Or perhaps that is because it's connected to the Abbotts.

Now the Chancellor story beat....yeah, it's not my favorite, but I really would love for someone to wipe that smug look off Billy's face because I'm tired of his propping and how JG just pushes him into everyone's story when he doesn't even need to be there. And Victor works for me.

Yeah, I would say the same about Summer as well.

And I agree. Another case of how JG cares about the Abbotts. Cuz yes, all of this Summer vs Kyle stems from that kidnapping. And he's been playing it. Even the fact that Audra has history with Kyle that is part of the reason their marriage was destroyed plays into this. I like that cuz it allows the writers to play to AL's strength as an actress and that is making MM bring his A-game in scenes.

Now Nate...you're the LAST person to be talking to Lily about family friction. Have some seats. lol. That said...I loved Victor/Nikki putting the screws to Lily. And SHUT UP, BILLY ABOUT THAT FRAKKING LOGO!!!! I'm sad that Lily is feeling the pressure, but I love that it got that annoying smirk off Billy's face with his whining.

Now Y&R with that silly cgi...lol. But I liked Faith figuring out about Lucy's drinking. As much as I liked Daniel clueing in Heather about Lucy lying. And meanwhile it was all nosediving into Sharon's storyline. I'm genuinely surprised that it's gone from silly to mildly intriguing. It was a nice storyline converge.

That said...NOW Sharon...I know you're not thinking about having ghost sex with Cameron...right?

And another storyline that appears to be gaining traction...Kyle vs Summer. MM and AL continue to bring their A-game. Though I am wondering who MM is working out for cuz his arms in these shirts...mmmmm lol.

They can never go wrong with a catfight. And Diane vs Phyllis will never not be good. I don't know who wrote the dialogue, but they BOTH got good licks in. I was of course happy to see Diane won over that Giggly Heffa though. I was hollering and cheering cuz she was reading Phyllis down.

This week has actually been good. I'm glad I watched/listened to it in one setting. I wished there was more going on, but Kyle vs Summer was a nice A plot that made the backbone of this week. And it's been fun to watch because as I've said before MM and AL brought their A-game. And their dialogue has been on fire as well. I loved Jack playing patriarch over it all and Diane is giving some nice matriarch moments though the highlight was today. I was pleasantly surprised that Victor got roped into Kyle vs Summer. It made sense given the web he's been spinning around Jack, but sometimes it has been easy to forget that Summer is his grandgirl. I'm mostly surprised because Victor was pretty human and tried to get both sides of their fighting. Him coming man to man with Kyle and talking to him was unexpected, but great.

I guess B plot would be the 'Perils' of Billy. RME. And outside of his scenes with Lily, I couldn't care less. When I don't care for Adam, and I'm on HIS side, you might want to have a seat. It just felt like Billy was marking his territory, and he really needed to STFU. I liked the idea that Lily might try to hide Billy from the public and she be the face of A-C, but Billy better not use Jill's illness to make it seem like he's not around without her knowledge. Meanwhile, Billy declared war on Adam so Team Adam there.

Well...since it feels like the relaunch party for A-C is dead...is the next Y&R event going to be Devon and Abby's wedding? I wouldn't mind. But where would be the drama?

Nice to hear that Traci is in L.A. with Alan.

Sharon's storyline and the Lucy/Faith storyline vanished.

I did like Sally's anniversary of her baby dying. And her trying to suffer in silence. But that's down to CH's acting.

Well said @Taoboi

I was trying to get to a point to recap/summarize what I liked, but it seemed to me almost every episode last week got bogged down with the “poor wittle Billy” so there was a lot of FF and skipping scenes from me.

Personally I could use a month long vacation from Billy, and have him come back to get involved with Jabot again. This whole Abbott-Chancellor is completely pointless I forget it’s even going on when FF’s.

Definite highlights for me were Jack &Diane’s anniversary night, Sharon, Faith/Lucy, Summer vs. Kyle, Sally, and of course the highlight for me was Jack just gleefully sitting back and let Diane unleash her worst on Phyllis lol. I too was pleased to see Diane won.

I agree CH did a great job but the it just highlighted for me how much more the show could have gotten out of had Ava been born ie Sally and Adam gaining some maturity and finding their way back together, Adam finally raising one of his kids from the start etc. Instead a year later it’s all about keeping a one night stand with Chelsea secret. Yuck. JG should be ashamed.

One definite lowlight for me was anything Devon/Abby…I mean I get Abby appeared to remind us as viewers that she does indeed still exist lol but the vibes weren’t there. Then on Friday there was the line about how she likes it when Devon wears socks to bed…? Erm, who wrote THAT? The whole second proposal seemed unnecessary but hey since we as viewers probably forgot they were engaged lol…

And another great EB moment when Victor told Summer it was “fixed”. Haha love it.

Now I need to catch up on this week.

Yeah it really was. re: Billy. I seriously had to screen him out. He's just all over everything and I just don't see why. Unlike Victor who I also LOVE told Summer it was fixed. EB was in his prime Victor moment. Phyllis had the shocked look and hair toss. And then the music kicked in. LOVE IT. But all of Victor's moments last Friday were great scenes. I was so surprised he didn't strong-arm Kyle for Summer. He just...talked. hehe.

Tbf, Jack did try to step in, but Diane shut him down REALLLL quick. Phyllis had that coming. Because Diane spoke nothing, but the truth. Phyllis has been stirring the pot between Kyle and Summer just as much as Victor has been doing it between Kyle and Jack. And while Diane might not get the moral high ground, Giggly Heffa doesn't get it either. SHE can have ALL the seats. Loved Diane getting under her skin before Summer walked in.

Awww I forgot about anniversary night. I thought that was well-done as well. Jack and Diane are definitely stepping into those roles now.

So it wasn't just me? I was thinking didn't Devon/Abby get engaged? lol. Just smh.

    • Finland seemed such an odd choice for a location shoot. ATWT went to Greece and later Spain while GL had Tenerife and there were others in that timeframe. But Finland not being a known tourist destination or offering the tropical/sunny atmosphere usually associated with location shoots seems off brand. Maybe they were negotiating a deal with a tourist association and it fell through.
    • I was talking about 1986, but the glimpses of 1982 are about the same.
    • I skimmed some of the 1982 synopses; Steve was planning on an opening an office in Finland, and I think Jim went there as part of the preparation. That probably was a big issue; AW had already gone to San Diego that year, with Rachel/Steve/Mitch. And to upstate NY with Pete and Diana. I wonder if upstate was as expensive lol  AW in 1982 has always fascinated me, because of how messy it was
    • That makes sense. What a messy time for the show. And any changes they made were mostly for the worse.
    • The transition from Neal to Adam was very abrupt, and to be honest my theory is that the character of Neal was designed so that we think he is super shady but then it turns out that he was on the side of good all along so Neal could have seamlessly become a hero of the BCPD with no need for Adam. I don't know whether Robert Lupone was hired on a short contract or if he was fired from a longer-term contract because they decided they wanted someone who was more of a leading man type, but I can imagine a scenario where Charles Grant did both the undercover Egyptian treasure/flirt with Victoria and the straighter-arrow day to day police investigation. But in my imagined scenario the MJ prostitution plotline probably doesn't exist and instead he probably continues a relationship with Victoria. The story seems very odd to me. I assume that David Canary would have been included only because a plotline where Steve is going to Finland in which only Rachel is seen in actual Finland seems unlikely. The synopses explicitly mention that Alice can't go with Steve but would whoever was playing Alice at that time have had the kind of clout to get the remote cancelled? It also strikes me as unlikely that production would have approved the expensive location shoot and *then* cancelled it only because of jealousy. It seems more likely that they rejected it because of the expense but then the jealousy part got added to the gossip speculatively, possibly because while it was being worked out they justified not including more castmembers because of the expense.
    • My comment has nothing to do with cast resentment, but does relate to the Finland location shoot: It may be a coincidence, but Jim Matthews died in Finland in 1982.  Hugh Marlowe's final episode was in April 1982, but the character probably didn't die untll May or June. (I'm unable to find the character's date of death, only the date of Marlowe's final episode). SInce Jim and Rachel had very little interaction after around 1975, it is unlikely Jim's death in Finland had any connection to Rachel's potential visit, but the choice to have Jim die in that location at that time is a head-scratcher.  I'm sure the writers sent Jim on an extended trip (and off-screen) because of Marlowe's illness.  But Finland seems like a strange choice considering the (then) recently cancelled location shoot.
    • I totally understand your sloths concern about it and I agree with you. Let’s hope the show plays it’s cards right.    Further comments about the last few episodes: - I liked that one of the attendees was filming the scene. That’s realistic. I wonder if the writers will follow up with that.  - Martin and Smitty trying to drag Leslie out was very heteronormative, so perfectly in line with them two as characters lol.    As for the future: it’s obvious the Duprees will come to accept Eva one way or another, but the rivalry with Kay should be here for the long term   On the topic of acting: the only bad actors I’m seeing are Ted and Derek. Tomas hasn’t proven to be either good or bad, so far, but he’s certainly mediocre and uncharismatic. He sucks the energy out of the scenes and I don’t see any couple of women ever vying for him.
    • I’m trying to think which actors VW were working with at the time, and none of them had been there for a while. Even like Mac and Ada didn’t have that big of a part in Rachel’s storyline.  And Jamie was involved with all that movie stuff.
    • Brooke did ads before ATWT too. That probably helped get her the job. After ATWT she seemed to branch more into hosting, along with ads.  I think I saw Kelley in an ad or two, but you're right she wasn't on as much.
    •   Thanks for sharing these. I wonder if Charles might have been in the running for Adam. I know Preacher was a bit of a bad boy at times on EON, but Neal seemed to be a step down, and Robert Lupone had played a similar part on AMC. Given the huge cast turnover at this point I wonder who thought they had been there long enough to go.  Laura Malone/Chris Rich would get a remote within the next year.
