Why do I feel like TPTB (including the new Co-HW's) are overlooking a potentially good storyline where Cody and Sasha are named the Faces of Deception?

I was very high on much of the last month but It's been a rough week or more, I've liked and cringed at stuff in equal measure the last however many days. But that's any given week on most soaps. I am hoping sweeps gets out of some of these doldrums.

LOL!!

Really?  In the short time that I've been following GH again, I've only seen or known Cody as the cute stable boy.  My bad!

Like I've said in the "Gates" thread, I wonder whether EK and PM are still working off whatever outlines/projections/post-its their predecessors might have left behind.

TBH, even with all the improvements, I still tune out on a lot of stuff, but only because they are so unfamiliar characters and I haven't been watching long enough to know everything that's going on.

I suspect people are right that they had very little time to work on long-term plans. The slow character focus for the last month suggests that to me. Unlike others I was never convinced they had a bible in place because frankly I don't think the networks have been giving any soap people much time to work on that when they are hired on anymore; I don't think what happened at Y&R with Sussman was an isolated incident, and we've seen so few new HW hires in the last decade anyway that weren't just internal people or recycled like Griffith. They're just handing someone the baton with very little lead time to work up plans and saying 'go'.

Hopefully they can put more new things in motion soon enough, but it's time to start culling hard. I've enjoyed the character depth and a lot of changes in pacing and focus, but I never want to see Home & Heart again.

That's entirely possible, but I'd expect more and better from a writing team that threw out the planned Jason Returns story.

I mean, this Deception/shopping network story is a mess onscreen, and I doubt it looks any better on paper. It looks like Chris and Dan got rid of Sasha, and that PM and EK want her back there. If so, they needed to make that happen more organically  and not to be so cringe.

When I see that horse stable set, all I can think of is how that ENTIRE place must smell of horse. Is that because nothing's happening with the dialogue?

Today, Jordan was mooning over Brick (Stephen A Smith). Really? I don't know anyone who was asking for more -- or any -- of this. I thought that went away with Chris and Dan.

Lucy. I'm so over that character, and Lynn Herring is not to blame for the mess writers have made. I think Lucy is worse since PM started. I could go on with another half dozen characters.

Yes, I know it's early. Yes, I know it takes time to turn around a show. But -- for me -- the last week or so has been a real slog.

I agree!

I also agree that it's time to start thinning out the canvas, if for no other reason than there's too much going on atm and that the more characters and storylines they need to service on this show, the harder it is for them to concentrate on what's really striking a chord with the audience.  I'd much rather watch a cast of 20-25 involved in 2-3 great storylines (even if it means some vets have to be phased out or phased out again!) than watch a cast of 70-75 involved 5-6 storylines where the quality is hit-or-miss JUST because it means I get to see Lucy or Robert or whoever again on a regular or semi-regular basis.

It's not really a story IMO. Just filler. But it needs to go away. IIRC it was PM/EK that had Sasha quit as the Face though, not C&D. But you could've done this "Sasha stays on as the home shopping girl" bit at the same time as her quitting the model job without making me watch more of Home & Heart. Unless Frank insists on more of Morgan and Luna Moody.

It doesn't help when Soap Twitter is an absolute nuthouse. You have folks using all caps in every tweet about how terrible it is that Ava is doing typical Ava things or whatever. I thought SoapZone was bad back in the day, but so much of the second by second live reaction on Twitter now is entirely skewed around people's fan preferences vs. the reality of watching the show. If Ava and Nina's ridiculous friendship is busted up it is suddenly the worst thing ever and so out of character! For as much as I find Home & Heart or Diane's latest diatribe about Carly/Nina tiresome, there's also a lot of that histrionic reaction based on stuff that is totally out of sync to what's actually onscreen.

Can't disagree with any of that, especially regarding Home & Heart and Soap Twitter.

If we're getting more Morgan and Luna, then Frank needs to move to Grey Gardens. I appreciate Morgan Fairchild and I love her politics, but she's not needed on GH. Frank is such a wizard with the budget, yet he spends money on these two?

    • Well, they usually weren't on the show at the time for long until the late 90's. But yeah, they really deserved a story centered on them, and not through the lens of Reva.
    • Chelsea was doing the absolute most today! Why was she introducing her sister to a woman she doesnt know? That whole scene was embarrassing. Madison needs to stay away from her bc she is too immature
    • Gosh, what a waste with Lunacy. Why have her live with $B, reveal Finn, pardon her, etc What makes this story incredibly hollow is that what Luna is asking isn't unreasonable - to spend time with her cousin father. She's not asking to move in with them. How hard with it be for Finn to throw her a bone by, say, I'll meet you for lunch/coffee once at week at the hospital cafeteria. Lunacy isn't going to hurt Finn. In fact, all her crimes were related to finding her father and it turns out to be someone she's loved her entire life. Instead of course-correcting the nonsense of last summer, Brad somehow found a way to make this worse! That's a skill... Of all the younger actors B&B has cast during the past 5 years, LY has shown the most growth and range. Why get rid of her?
    • On the subject of sets (seems more interesting to discuss than the actual show)  Some sets we don't see anymore Lauren/Michael apartment (haven't seen that in years) Victoria's house (are Marian/Tessa living there?) Apartment above Crimson Lights (I think Chelsea was the last resident) Penthouse (Lily's home) Chancellor Estate (Devon/Abby) Chancellor office (once Dark Horse) Nick's house GCAC room (used as residence/hotel room for several characters) Some of these may pop up again. The tack house, for example, was not seen for many months before being used again. Have I missed anything?
    • Thanks for searching through everything. Worked on them so long, just too lazy to check for those links myself, so I am glad you chose to do it! I guess I never did type out anything for 1973-1977 in regards to the preemptions, but they are on the charts at least (and this far back, they don't seem to do any of those "breakouts" anymore, so things are simpler in the 1970's, so eventually I could type those out).
    • I dump on the Y&R sets problem all the time, but BOLD is no better -- and they're not even introducing new sets. All of their sets are years old, and very few look like they're inhabited by people with money. Is that going to change with this move? I'd rather they save the money spent on another remote, which is no better than an HGTV travelogue, and get some new/better sets.
    • The donut posts here make up for a Friday show that was barely meh. Aside from seeing Anna, I really didn't care much about anything else. While I understand the thought behind breaking up all the sadness with "other scenes," I'd rather they moved right to John's funeral. Instead of hearing a stupid story about John changing some minor character's tire 20 years ago, just move on to the crying. I also thought the Chad and Cat scenes were a waste. I realize not everyone is devastated by John's death to the point of not functioning, but going sky diving is a choice. By the way, Jack and Jennifer are giving me nothing on this return. Please leave asap. DAYS did such a great job with John's death, so ending the week this way was a letdown.
    • Add Dr. Montgomery to list of fine women on this show! I hope the show goes forward with Madison/Chelsea and then once they're developed, bring back Allison, who is now divorced or a widow, for a Madison/Chelsea/Allison triangle.  It would definitely be the hottest triangle in daytime.
    • I wonder if Linda Bloodworth-Thomason had Kim in mind for any of her other characters/series. If they intended Allison Sugarbaker (Julia Duffy's character) to be more in line with who Suzanne was/Delta Burke's portrayal-persona, then I think Kim would have aced that. Yes, it would have been odd, Kim having previously played a different character (from a different family), but Designing Women wouldn't have been the first show with that issue. Or maybe Kim could have played Beth Broderick's role on Hearts Afire. Or Patricia Heaton's role on Women of the House.
    • Sony is probably waiting until Y&R’s lease is up as well. All of TV City is going to be gutted, so they have to relocate at some point.
