Interesting to see Guza come out of retirement for this as well, I hope we have a positive from this and not a negative effect. I had wonder about his whereabouts following Meg’s passing, glad he’s keeping busy with this project.

I would expect this kind of work would be a real lifeline for Guza given Meg's passing. He's a writer I'm ambivalent about because he's written some of my favourite GH (the mid to late 90s) and also why I don't watch GH anymore.

Michele posted this yesterday, Vivica just turned 60 yesterday, lol

Vivica has been my #1 pick for this show. Whether she'd do it I don't know...but she would be a name that daytime audiences would connect with.

Seeing Julie Hanan Carruthers name again made me wince though. Her PC and AMC runs lacked real distinction production wise other than the fact PC had 13 week arcs and AMC had that ugly shaky film look for minute. To stand out this show needs to visually be more modern and grand than the other soaps.

The one thing I remember about Julie Hanan Carruthers is that Susan Lucci said publicly that she was very kind and well liked by the AMC cast and crew. This EP position will surely be about setting up the day to day running of the show. She had little creative involvement in AMC and I expect that to be the same with The Gates.

RE Guza and Carruthers:

Uninspired, disappointing hires.  Vets (ages 64 and 70) who are relics of the a bygone era in daytime. Out of commission since 2011/2012. Both had large, forgettable periods in their respective soap careers i.e. Guza/co-creator of one of the worst soaps ever (Sunset Beach) and a failed Loving co-head gig at Loving.  He also turned GH into the Sopranos (copy cat/lazy) which haunts (and ruined) GH to this day.

Carruthers' Port Charles was a dumpster fire and AMC was a sad shell of itself upon cancellation after her 8 year EP term where the show had had 6 head writing teams including Megan McTavish's longest stint (4 years).

Agreed. I've followed this news since it launched and these two hires are very uninspired. I know there are a ton of Guza fans and apologists, but he's responsible for one of the worst soap operas to ever premiere: Sunset Beach. His GH was a nightmare for viewers who loved the Labine/Riche era. As for JHC, she was a non-entity at AMC. A friend of mine worked on the show when it came to Los Angeles and JHC was more concerned with buying sandwiches at Costco, cutting them up, and putting them on trays than EPing that show. She ran PC, Night Shift, and AMC into the ground and now they think it's a good idea to give her The Gates? The Santa Barbara Crew was struck again. When will their hold on daytime cease?

The power structure at this show is quite different. MVJ is clearly surrounding herself with close friends/associates she trusts to help execute her vision. That's par the course for any creator. I think we need to watch this show play out before rushing to any rash conclusions or assumptions.

MVJ worked with Guza & JHC all the way back to Santa Barbara & then over at GH. They work well together. When launching a soap & one where you never been EP or showrunner before, you need folks that you trust to help steer the ship. These are great choices by MVJ.

I know how soaps are run, thanks. I've launched a few shows in my time in the industry. My comment is merely how friends help friends even when said friends have a record of tanking the show they work on. That's all.

Then as someone who has "launched shows" you should know you're at your most comfortable working with people you trust vs. "talent" that corporate America forces you to work with.

Just because some of these folks tanked at other shows, it doesn't mean they'll wield the same power on this show or see the same results. Are we past the days of waiting for something to air before judging?

Because she trusts these people, yes, it makes sense.

There is a difference here too: GH, AMC & PC had long histories. The Gates is a clean slate. This group will help create the History for The Gates hopefully long run.

I think it's a totally different set-up from all we've heard - MVJ is the creator and the one calling the shots on who she wants to work with creatively. This isn't Guza or JHC's show (unless some underhanded shenanigans happen). This vision isn't being filtered through their eyes, so I don't think it's fair to knock them or assume they'll bring the same issues to this show. They may, but we'll have to wait and see it play out first.

The Jacksons!!!! Related to Martin and Doreen Jackson a la Generations? Nah, just kidding. It's going to be wonderful to hear about the non-related characters as the news wears on. I think we've all deduced that these rich black folks ain't gonna be the only game in town.

I kinda like the names. Betty Jackson sounds like someone I would not mess with.

They’ll inevitably be that young vixen/bitch from the wrong side of the tracks trying to make her way into that family.
