After four consecutive weeks of declines and four consecutive weeks below two million viewers, ABC’s “General Hospital” was finally able to reverse course during the week of December 25-29, 2023 (Week 15).

For the week, the daytime drama series averaged 2.040 million viewers, increasing +125,000 viewers from its performance during the week of December 18-22, 2023 (2.040 million vs. 1.915 million). In fact, this marked the show’s best outing among Total Viewers in six weeks – since the week of November 20-24, 2023.

“The Price is Right” (4.222 million / 4.808 million) hit a new season high for both half hours among Total Viewers during the Christmas holiday. The second half-hour saw the biggest increase overall week-to-week, adding +311,000 viewers. The first half-hour added +244,000 viewers.

“The Young and the Restless” (3.406 million) attracted its second-largest audience of the season and had its best performance since the week of November 20-24, 2023, adding +165,000 viewers over the week ago period. “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.908 million) hit a new season high among Total Viewers with an increase of +149,000 viewers compared to one week earlier. The show’s previous season high (2.888 million viewers) was also during the week of November 20-24, 2023.

“NBC News Daily” (1.248 million) also saw an uptick from its performance one week earlier, adding +16,000 viewers.

“Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Talk” and “The View” aired amended repeats for the week and are excluded from the weekly rankings. Ratings for “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” were unavailable at press time.

Note: The Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 demo ratings were unavailable at press time. This post will be updated when/if we receive them.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of December 25-29, 2023 in Women 18-49 Rating, Women 25-54 Rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2022, 2021 and 2020, respectively. The numbers above are calculated using Live+Same Day viewing and DVR playback, defined as 3:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m. and are courtesy of Nielsen. Household ratings are the percentage of TV homes in the U.S. tuned into television, each of which represents 1,250,000 homes as of the 2023-2024 television season.

Note*: Officially, the demo ratings are sorted by the rounded figures released by Nielsen. “NBC News Daily” 2021 and 2020 figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives,” which moved to Peacock exclusively beginning September 12, 2022.

Year-to-year comparisons (2023 vs. 2022) for most daytime broadcast shows among Households and Total Viewers will be unavailable for the foreseeable future due to figures being unavailable to Soap Opera Network during that period.

    • Kim used to say that you can tell when she was unhappy because she would try weird or new things with her hair.  I don't think Rauch was at OLTL at the time Zimmer was but their producer at the time probably wasn't much of a peach either.
    • I wonder if less set use was preparing for the move. They probably were preparing for this for awhile now
    • The early part of the season is decent. After that, Season 9 is one of the worst seasons until season 13. Season 10 is a little worse.    That would have made sense, even if it cost us one of my favorite scenes (Ben putting Lilliemae in a headlock). That's an excellent storyline and leads to the show's last strong season finale.
    • The TVC Studio 31 that they used for 38 years was only about 13,730 sq ft., according to the TVC website specs: https://televisioncityla.com/stages-offices/ Sunset Las Palmas Studios has 11 sound stages, which go up to 20,000 sq ft., though we're yet to learn which of those sound stages will house B&B. Depending on which one, the specs for it can be found here: https://www.sunsetstudios.com/los-angeles/las-palmas-studios/ Sound Stages 4, 5 and 9 are available for use starting September 1, 2025. It's unclear if either of those stages would be used by B&B since they begin production there starting Tuesday, August 19, 2025, which would be before the date shown on the website, but we shall see. Of those three sound stages, only Sound Stage 4 and 5 make sense since they are larger than the specs the show had at TVC, while 9 is quite smaller.  Sound Stage 4 would be the best option overall for B&B since it has 18,819 sq ft., the largest individual sound stage at the lot - Stage 3 and Stage 8 share space, which combined makes the space 19,900 sq ft. --- Forgot to add, unless there was an issue with storing the sets, the changes at TVC should have had no issue with production on the show, resulting in fewer set use as there has been no movement in terms of construction that would impact either show (B&B/Y&R). Of the 2-3 times I've been at the studio, the most recent for Don Diamont's 40 years at CBS, it was the most dead I had ever seen the space, but that could be due to vacations, holidays, or the preparation of the B&B move.
    • I didn't post about it in the BtG thread as I still don't watch the show (an hour runtime is just too much for me right now with a new soap I can't just mostly skip through) but I can't imagine the ego of someone who is hired as a breakdown writer and decides to [!@#$%^&*] their own name all over the show. Classless beyond belief. Any writer who cares more about masturbatory behavior than quality of work should not be hired.
    • Yeah, it would've made things more tightly woven.
    • I like Chelsea and Madison. Two very pretty black women as a potential couple. But I really wish this show would've showcased two very handsome black men as a couple instead.
    • I didn't even think of roasters from GH

Maybe this roast will take even more than two years
    • Irna wasn't involved with ATWT at the time of Neil's death, was she? I'm imagining a situation where right after his latest doctor's appointment, he's killed.
    • The Cruise of Deception was the first thing that came to mind when I mentioned that Brady might take after that side of the family
