General Hospital: May 2023 Discussion Thread

Kristina is supposed to be a smart cookie, she was smart in HS and went to an Ivy League before dropping out.

Can they fast forward her through uni, and say she has been taking night classes, and is now a med student? I think she would mix it up well with the hospital crowd. Maybe she can be a psych intern under Kevin?

I guess this might be unpopular, but I don't want or envision Kristina as a Dr. at all.   I could see her opening a non-profit or charity organization or doing something similar to the Ward House, but maybe for LBGTQ+ youth.  There has never been any indication Kristina has ever been interested in the medical field.  Even as a teen she seemed more interested in the law.  If we are going to give Kristina an insta career I would prefer she took over Diane's job as Sonny's lawyer which would pit her against Molly as the DA and get Kristina into Sonny's business.

I don't see her as a doctor either. I don't think it's necessary. It's not even like it's part of her familial legacy and she's never shown an interest in 10 years as an adult. It would feel real hammered in.

I also don't like that they have Josslyn wanting to study medicine. She doesn't the intellect if I'm being perfectly honest. Maybe she can be a professional candy striper (do hospitals still do that?).

Joss' true calling is to be a human speed bump, which she is fulfilling quite nicely.

I will give the show credit for Joss’ makeover. She doesn’t look like a teen anymore. It’s like she became an adult overnight.

Scotty and Cody have a lot of potential as comedic partners. Scotty is best when he has a little humour in his storyline v. pure scheming. I like that Cody is playing for laughs.

Lucy is finally back, and no one has mentioned how happy to have her alive again. No emotional reunions. What a wasted opportunity.

Gladys is Rhonda Wexler 2.0. Agreed?

I don’t need Morgan Fairchild in Port Charles.

I think Rhonda was a screw up and not a great mom, but I never felt she was malicious, and I do think she loved and tried with Karen.  Gladys is just an awful person with no redeeming qualities.  Even D character Rhonda had more depth than Gladys.

Definitely.  I don't think the actress that plays Gladys is bad either, but Rhonda had multiple relatable issues that made her the way she was.  I knew she loved Karen though.  Does Gladys even like Sasha?  I know she has a gambling addiction, but I don't get the sense Gladys is trying to be better or doing anything other than praying on a vulnerable woman because she's rich.  I know I am giving too much thought into a story I don't care about, but I at least felt bad for Rhonda.  I don't care at all about Gladys.

I completely forgot Scotty was supposed to hate Cody for claiming to be Dominique’s son. Has this all been confirmed, is Cody actually a Staub/ Scorpio or is there still some ambiguity?

I thought Serena gave away her fortune. Is there anything left for them to fight over? Carly is not coming back, we deserve a strong Serena on canvas. I know everyone has been clamouring for a Marci Miller Lulu, but I think she would be a good fit for Serena.

Cody is sex on a stick. Give him a romance worth fighting for. Maybe he can cozy up to Brad after finding himself underwater on some debt to Selina? Or, he can work as a stable hand at the Q’s and strike-up a friendship turned romance with Brooklyn?

I love that they dress Felicia likes she shops at Kohls/Chico’s. That is exactly how she should look! She is part super spy/ part suburbanite whose kitchen has all those wood block signs with kitschy sayings like, “rose all day.”

    • Well, that is weird. I do not see him but I only have him on Ignore on 2 accounts.
    • In the preview for the show back in February on Entertainment Tonight, Jeresa the costume designer was specific about each character's economic background, personality, and the character's personal fashion preferences.  Very much about the characters and not the actors. She said Eva is a thrifter, so her normal daily wardrobe would be something from a thrift store, and if BTG buys it new, they intentionally make it look used. So what you said fits about the type of thing a lower income person would buy for a fancy event.
    • As hard as it is for me to imagine anyone but Don Stewart as Mike Bauer...I dunno...maybe someone like "Adam-12"'s Kent McCord?  Or Robert Hogan?
    • Yep I don't hate Javi and then he's macking on Leo and I'm done with him. Leo is a failure who needs to go away   I am bracing myself for Alex reading the manuscript and imagining him and Stephanie as the main characters, because this couple has literally nothing else to do until Joy comes back showing
    • Oh yes. The towel scene though
    • Interesting that Donald May has been mentioned twice. He's on my dreamcast list for Alan. He was somewhat older than Stewart and Bernau, but he could have played either role. An actor I thought about for Mike was Dan Hamilton. He played a role on GL during the 60s, but enough time had passed that it shouldn't have been a problem. He usually played smarmy characters but it would have been cool if they had gone against typecasting.
    • I like Jed Allan, it has to be someone who can play authority but "good" authority to oppose Alan's bad. As mentioned upthread, can you imagine how it would have been with Alan and Mike against each other, with Roger in the mix. But I would have had Roger, ever the opportunist to try to take advantage of their fighting to make his own headway.  Maybe that could have been the storyline, Mike involved with Alex, but the constant fighting with Alan causes a rift (she like Mike fighting Alan when it is to her advantage, but he can be a bit self righteous and I can see him demanding her to disavow Alan publicly..) so that is how Roger lands in her bed, much to the consternation of BOTH Alan and Mike. I would like to have a woman of a certain age being fought over by two men (really three if you count Alan.
    • Please let May have less garbage time. The Y&R threads have shrunken, whereas I can barely keep up with the Beyond the Gates threads.
    • The Liam cancer story was a failure from day one. It didn't start at point A but at a late point C. My aunt had brain cancer, and it isn't being told properly or correctly.
    • OMG, did Gio look good. Do not get me started on how good he looked. Lord. It's as if the writers realized Lulu had almost no scenes with her mother, so they wrote all this material for a 2-day Lulu/Laura therapy session. It was nice to see them connect, but I scratched my head yesterday when Lulu tried to connect her adoption story to Laura's life. That was a stretch to me, and I sign the writers were working overtime. Today, the script eventually got to the right place, but I thought it was overboard to see Lulu so worked up that she was near tears. That's investment in a story that's become an obsession.
