Roles that Had 3 or More Decent Portrayls

Name a some soap role that had three OR MORE actors who did a good job in the role.

Dorian OLTL- Nancy Pinkerton, Claire Malis, Elaine Princi and of course Robin Strasser were all good. It was refreshing to see the sex pot femme fatale version of Dorian that Claire played in the 1977 episode on YT.

Adam Y&R- All four Adams have been good so far, with Michael Muhney having been the best. I'm not sure whether Grossman or Hartley was the superior Adam.

I think people might argue Ellen Dolan was a bit miscast, but I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen from Margaret Colin, Hillary B. Smith, and ED as Margo as ATWT.

Y&R: Phyllis. Stafford, Sandra Nelson, and Gina Tognoni have all been great in the role, even though Stafford fell into her oddball patterns in the mid-2000s.

GH: We’ll act like Jennifer Bransford didn’t happen (just like GH did when they inventively brought back the two most successful actresses in the role), but Sarah Brown, Tamara Braun, and Laura Wright have all played Carly to the hilt.

Carly owns this list. That role is a prime example of different actresses bringing something distinct and memorable to the role. I'm sure the modern average soap viewer could readily identify the 3 different Carlys before they knew that Dorian or another long time roll had been recasted.

As much as I act like the Jennifer Bransford era didn't exist it would have been cool to have her back in 2014 during the 3 Carlys scene or at least for the 60th.

Haha

I saw both of Brenda's run as Jill. I actually preferred her I'm a diva and I'm the star of the show run from 1983-1987.

I don't mind the Alexis Carrington version of Jill. It's just her acting needed work to keep up with that. Jess Walton is solid in the role, just not as entertaining as over the top BD. I wish diva Jill had more interactions with Lauren and Victor!

Noticing many Y&R actreses added some camp in their second runs. Michelle Stafford and Victoria Rowell (Victoria not as extreme as the other two).

JR Chandler had memorable portrayers: Kevin Alexander was a strong child actor, especially through the Tad/Dixie/Liza triangle. Jesse McCartney was beloved in the role and unnecessarily recast. Jonathan Bennett had to potential to be THE adult JR, if only the show signed him to a contract. He handled Dixie’s death well, and JR’s role in the Proteus saga. Andrew Riddings, miscast and green. Jacob young, deserved an Emmy his first year for his “Judas” speech after Adam returned Miranda to the Kanes.

    • Not me, I am having withdrawals, I need that soapy drama lol
    • I faintly remember the tv movie where Ted Danson played the lead.. my late mom liked the movie and she also read a few of the novels and enjoyed them.

    • Paula and Jeanne’s first time writing Alex and Stephanie. It didn’t seem like there were any changes in Alex at all lol but I can’t help  but think that that’s more on RSW than the writing. I didn’t see a big change with Stephanie either, but I did enjoy her scenes with Kayla, whose character has gotten so much stronger since last week. I hope we get to see a lot more of their relationship, and their relationship with Steve as well. As for Steve and Shawn stealing the drug to try to save Bo, idk. I don’t dislike it, but I just don’t know lol but I also think that it is time for Steve to pass the torch on to the next hero.  And finally, Javi showed some kind of spark! I was a little worried in his first scene today that he was going to continue to be so obsessed with Leo, but him demanding that Leo drop the investigation into Rafe and Gabi could actually be pretty interesting. I don’t think that would’ve happened under Ron. And if we’re forced to endure Javi/Leo, let them at least have some kind of actual conflict, instead of the forced, biased crap that we were subjected to. And speaking of Leo, one year ago today, he got Dimitri’s letter

Btw, why is Gabi so beholden to Javi? Cousin or not, if I was her, the minute he said to her, “If he goes, I go”, I would’ve been like  Also, are they going to go there with Philip and Gabi? I’d prefer that than Gabi getting involved with Alex.
    • She does look good in blue. I wish they'd do more with her hair, change it up the way JMW does now and then
    • Hahaha - this is hilarious (and a ton of wigs at use!). The closing shot!!! LOL
    • Yes. I don't know if Lenore was ever asked. Then it became a nun. Thanks. I didn't realize it was in 1987. That timeline doesn't make a lot of sense even if she would have had Ed to interact with. If they didn't ask her back in 1989 and she was willing, what a stupid error. The attempts at these feuds, or even the whole families tied together stuff like Maryanne Carruthers, never had any real impact because of how depleted the Bauers felt even by the mid '80s. And instead of expanding them, which would have been common sense, various producers were just too lazy, or too ashamed, and kept bringing on other families, or bringing in too many people at one time and not knowing how to write for them (the Spauldings in the McTavish era - as SOD said at the time, everyone in the family had the same personality).
    • Wasn't there talk of them bringing back Rita as Gus' mother at one point? Or something?
    • I think they are a part of the same family, although Carla was never really scheming for the same reasons, and once her double life was exposed, she stopped.
