Webmaster Errol Posted September 24, 2022 Webmaster Share Posted September 24, 2022 It looks like Peacock’s much-hyped reboot of “Queer As Folk” will be one and done. The streaming service has opted not to order a second season of the Stephen Dunn-created series, which premiered in June. Only eight episodes of the series were produced. Starring Devin Way, Fin Argus, Jesse James Keitel, CG, John Sibilly and Ryan O’Connell, who also serves as a writer and co-executive producer, “Queer as Folk” was a vibrant reimagining of the groundbreaking British series of the same name created by Russell T. Davis, who himself also served as an executive producer on the new series. The show follows a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy. Guest stars included Kim Cattrall, Juliette Lewis, Ed Begley Jr., Nyle DiMarco and Chris Renfro, among others. Word of the show’s cancellation came from Dunn, who shared the news on Instagram on Friday night. “It’s a rare gift in these times, and in this country, to be able to make a show as fearless and unapologetic as ‘Queer As Folk’. This experience changed our lives forever and we’re so grateful to have found this incredible new family. But today we received the disappointing news that we’re not getting a second season,” Dunn posted alongside a photo of the show’s cast. “We know how much it’s meant to the fans and while we’re heartbroken we won’t get to make more episodes, we wanna thank everyone for watching and falling in love with Brodie, Mingus, Ruthie, Noah, Shar, Julian, Daddius, Bussey, Marvin, Judy and Brenda. We’re so grateful for the chance to honor our community and are so proud of this show.” In addition to creating and EP’ing the show, Dunn also directed at least three episodes of the series, including the pilot episode. Additional executive producers include Jaclyn Moore, Lee Eisenberg, Emily Brecht, Nicola Schindler and Louise Pedersen on behalf of All3 Media International, which distributes the format and the original British series produced by Red Productions for Channel 4. The show was produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Check out a trailer of the show’s first and only season below. Members Paul Raven
As soon as you see words like fearless and unapologetic you know what you're in for.
Members te.
Not surprised. No one in my (gay) circle seemed to watch this. Just reading the description it seems utterly unrelateable to me.
Members Faulkner
Yeah, I didn’t see much chatter about this. No. 1, it aired on Peacock, which few people have. No. 2, it’s not 2001 anymore. There’s much more LGBT content out there; there’s much more content, period; better Internet and the accessibility of gay porn means that people don’t need to watch a racy show like QAF to be titillated by hot guys thrusting. Dunn bit off way more than he could chew with this. If he had tightened the canvas to just a handful of characters and really developed them as human beings, this would have been much more satisfying. Too focused on making ham-fisted statements about identity and visibility, not focused enough on creating an interesting world of people so that those statements could actually land.
