Letting Newman slip through their fingers will bite them in the ass.  The Dane/Ashland combo could have thrown a monkey wrench into SO many stories. From Kyle to Phyllis to Victori-ah /Billy/Lily to Jack, Summer etc.

Just a waste of a great actor.

Not that GH needs another character but Robert Newman could step in as Jimmy Lee or Jeff Webber with ease.

Shades of what caused JG’s 2012-2013 tenure to go off the rails.

The show was building significant momentum with Summer’s paternity resurfacing, the Winters/Michaelsons dealing with a mysterious stalker from the past, and Adam dealing with a mysterious red headed femme fatale. Then JG abruptly decided to take the easy way out.

Nine years later the show has more momentum again with Diane’s return, Nate and Imani building up to a possible affair, and Ashland becoming the new town villain…yet it looks like he’s taking the easy way out once again.

Let’s hope he doesn’t barricade himself in his office again.

I thought that was such a given since he was a recast to really finish off a story that was started by another actor.

Personally, I felt the writing was on the wall when they revealed Victoria outsmarted everyone...which was loooooooooooong overdue. And then the thing with Harrison. Le sigh. It would have been nice to keep him, but we cannot have nice things. I mean...Imani/Nate has kinda up and vanished for example.

Oh how I miss the Michaelsons. And I believe I was one of the few that loved the craziness of Summer's paternity.

But I totally agree.

A while back I had mentioned I recalled reading that Hilary was supposed to be the illegitimate daughter of Gus Rogan and Dru, someone had asked me on this board if I could find the direct source for that but unfortunately I could not, and now I can’t even remember who asked me about it lol. Maybe there was truth to it or maybe it was some heavy fandom speculation as opposed to fact but sounded more interesting on paper as opposed to what we saw play out.

I like the initial craziness of Summer’s paternity as well with Phyllis seducing Kyle (I can’t remember if if was Hood or Sawyer now lol) in front of Summer lol. Switching it back to Nick because Sharon wanted revenge was fun but was total a cop out; the fact we had to see Sharon get electro shock therapy and then EVERYONE knowing Sharon had some horrible secret but she couldn’t remember what it was and then all of the sudden NO ONE wanted to know what it was lol.

Back to Ashland this the point when if Ashland had like two additional kids from  previous marriage would seriously come into play at. An Ashland Locke Jr would tell Sally and Summer he’s disgusted with his father’s actions and wants to protect Harrison from the Ashland’s infamy while tempting both Sally and Summer that he is far a better than either Adam and Kyle.

Meanwhile Regina Locke has hated Victoria all along and she sleeps with stepbrother  Reed in some twisted Cruel Intentions pact the two blame Victoria for Ashland’s downfall.

LOL it’s hard to tell as JG was co-writing with MAB the whole duration. It was an immediate improvement over Latham but was very campy, and MAB successfully blamed JG for impeding her “vision”. I get the feeling about 90%+ was all MAB and not JG.

Yeah, what was on-screen was a waste of Tony Todd.

I want to say Sawyer because I was watching most of Hood's Kyle...who I was the few who liked him as well...lol. Then again, that might have been him, but I think I'm thinking of Summer trying to seduce him.

See? So much potential when there could have been so many offsprings of Ashland.

This show is almost anti-entertainment. It also seems to cut characters off right when they are coming into their own. Robert Newman was finally starting to not only look the part with his clean-shaven face, but he also began to achieve that sort of menace that Richard Burgi could play in his sleep.

I didn’t love the Tara actress, but when she became the cold-hearted bitch tormenting Summer, she was more comfortable and watchable. But that was right before Tara was thrown in jail. Most of her time was skulking about sullenly like a dishrag, and no one would have played that well. That was all on JG/AM. They always want to try to outsmart the audience (forefronting Tara as this mostly guarded, seemingly abused character for months before revealing the vicious beeyotch behind the sad eyes) when transparency was normally what Y&R excelled at.

That would be an welcome change, they don't seem be very good to let a woman stay with JUST ONE of them much long, einther they get into a war over such female or she gets dead, i really was put off by Sage's death back in 2016

    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
    • What was Ruth Martin's association to the Thornton family?  I only remember the daughter that dated Tad, and she had a buxom mother.  But, did Ruth date David Thorton before Joe?

Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.
    • Question: Jon-Michael Reed's review of 1977 is up in the retro soap section.  It includes a fleeting reference to comedic scenes between Jeanne Cooper and Julianna McCarthy regarding “Kay's would-be beau, Ralph the Plumber”.  Could someone please fill me in will more details? I forgot that Kay and Liz were friendly before Jill stole Kay's husband.  And the thought of Liz playing a comedic scene blows my mind, because I only recall her being dour both in demeanor and wardrobe.
    • I said this on Twitter on Friday when Leslie mentioned Chicago, so perhaps she might be related to one of Anita's bandmates. In addition, Leslie did say she grew up listening to The Articulettes too.
    • There was a scene in the past week or two with Leslie looking at some papers and mementos, which included an invitation or souvenir from Alan's memorial service or funeral -- it was dated as November 2024. Me just guessing but it seems to me that Martin's nightmares about the accident are from something longer ago than November.
    • ah thanks! do you know who the third one was in the blonde? the fifth one i know ive seen before in the brown wig but i forgot, and then ive never seen the psychic one before lol
    • I felt for Ted early on but as the story unfolded it has changed my opinion on him. To know he was cheating while his wife was struggling to give him a baby is a lot to deal with. Plus, this happened ages ago and still he's paying Leslie off and threatening her to leave town.  What really caused me to lose him in this episode was how even though he was busted, he still refused to take responsibility and come clean and the way he talked to Martin and Eva was terrible. To tell Smitty he better get Martin away from him when that is his SON who he used to cover up his affair? That is true dog behavior. Ted seems upset he got caught but I'm not seeing the remorse I would need to want Nicole to forgive him. I'm curious how I'll feel after Ted gets to talk to Nicole but I need him to fix it with the rest of the family as well.
    • I'm sorry. I well remember Jake doing Doris but I have no independent memory of the story around it.  Krystle with a K Lake, sure, both Tony the Tuna stories & NOT.  And, Jake also impersonated a woman named Bunny Eberhardt but he didn't know she was a woman so there was no drag. This weekend I re-watched Kevin & Mac, GH, and my strong impression is exactly what it was when I watched it in real time: They did not let them look very pretty. Of course, I think the best ever drag on GH was Alexis posing as the Q butler.  In a different use of drag at AW one Halloween, Jensen Buchanan went as Charlie Chaplin & Judi Evans went as, I think, a male gypsy.

    • I'm not sure who wanted them to dump REUNION & instead do a "Dallas-like daytime show" but it seems that it def came from NBC to AW through Rauch, so, yes, it absolutely could have been his (cough-another-stupid?) decision!!!! I've just begun the new Lisanti book so maybe I will find out. (I waited for the kindle version to come out.) I would apologize for being so critical & so sarcastic, too, but, well, I'm not actually sorry!  Silverman was NOT a friend to AW.  And, I believe the critique is on point & deserved! I wanted to explain why I think the timing is off for the 90 minute show to be a reaction to the GH Luke & Laura story & its hype. Because, for sure, networks & production companies did react to it! The first 90 minute show was Monday, March 5, 1979.  And, there was some unknown amount of time ahead of that with people arguing about it & then, planning it.  The Luke & Laura wedding was mid-November 1981.  They were on the run from Frank Smith & stayed overnight in Wyndham's Dept. Store early August 1980.
