It’s been more than a year since it was announced that ABC had put into development a primetime spinoff of “All My Children,” entitled “Pine Valley,” and since then there has been virtually no news on when fans could expect to see some of their favorite characters back on screen, if at all. That could soon change according to Susan Lucci (ex-Erica Kane), who recently revealed that there has been some movement on the project but COVID has put a delay on things, for now.

Speaking with PEOPLE about her ongoing collaboration with the American Heart Association and its Go Red for Women initiative, the soap icon told the publication, “There has been movement. I wish it was a quicker movement, but yes, everything in terms of being in the right hands, as far as I know, would be in place.”

“It’s really interesting, and the concept is so good,” Lucci added. “[It’s] in the right hands … [with] Kelly Ripa [ex-Hayley Vaughan Santos; “Live with Kelly and Ryan”] and her husband, Mark Consuelos [ex-Mateo Santos], who are both so terrific. They would be executive producers, so I’m really hoping that this is going to actually go forward.”

As for why things have been delayed, Lucci put the blame on COVID, saying, “COVID is in play again, and things are slowed down.”

The potential series is based on the town in which the daytime soap opera took place (Pine Valley) and will follow a young journalist with a secret agenda looking to expose the dark and murderous history of the town only to become entangled in a feud between the Kane and Santos families. The series plans to explore all the secrets that come with the Kane and Santos family names. Lucci has already indicated she will be part of the show should get picked up by ABC.

In addition to Ripa and Consuelos, who will also serve as executive producers, “Pine Valley” is being spearheaded Leo Richardson (“EastEnders,” “Katy Keene,” “Star”), Andrew Stearn and Robert Nixon, son of the late Agnes Nixon, creator of both “AMC” and “One Life to Live.”

Since submitting the producer’s draft for the potential series last February, Richardson has left the potential series in the hands of those above him (i.e. network executives). “I wrote the script, true to what I pitched and sold to ABC, and we are waiting now,” he said last year. “I am incredibly proud of what we have cooked up and we will keep you posted. Fingers crossed for us please.”

Hulu Originals and ABC President Craig Erwich glossed over a question on the potential show’s status when asked during his turn at last month’s TCA press tour. “I don’t have any updates on that project right now,” he said.

I feel like if it wasn't for Covid they would've at least given this a pilot, but now they have to be so careful about what they focus on for development so I don't see it happening. Unless they feel it is going to be a sure bet they aren't going to waste one of their few pilot slots on a soap experiment. It would be nice to see it picked up by a streaming service though, but I don't think Hulu would be interested.

I think if not for COVID it might have had a shot. I think with time and tide interest has waned. Granted, I also think AMC is a better fit for serialized streaming a la the Prospect Park revival than attempting to wedge into the increasingly-clumsy, ADHD box that network primetime dramas have largely become. But we've discussed that up front. I just think the buzz is gone and ABC doesn't care. But we could all be wrong.

date: Tuesday, May 13 | Sara A. Bibel, Jazmen Darnell Brown | Anthony Pascarelli So Deadbeat's secret has to do with a car accident? At least Nicole is getting dressed. That's a sign of good things to come. Eva looks gorgeous in her sparkling pink number. Very age-appropriate and fashionable. So, Douglas is back to his gambling addictions and lying to Vanessa, and here comes Joey, ready to fully cash in on the debt owed to him. Jan, you look gullible, but do not let Dana continue to trick you into believing her sob story, because it's just that: a story. If you're going to eavesdrop on someone, maybe do not make it so apparent (i.e., the new character: Kenny). But at least Deadbeat isn't running for president anymore. That's a sigh of relief. Anastasia, the town gossip, is a mood. Hoping she's an occasional guest when things need to be spiced up a bit. So, Deadbeat is no hero? This is alluding to this big, bad secret that's being harboured. Interesting. "You is kind, you is smart, you is important." We love historical references, this time to The Help. Oh, the showdown face; Nicole's slight eyebrow lift at the sight of Ted and Eva. If Vanessa knew she'd be showing up with Dani, then she really should have given them a heads up about who was at the country club. Not Derek just throwing his nasty, dirty shirt on the ground. I would be completely pissed off... and I guarantee he's using all of the steamy hot water, and I would absolutely off him. He and his ugly-ass chair would be out of the home. Oh, so everyone knows about Anastasia, and I do adore her. She gives me Leanna Love from Y&R, but even juicier. Eva, don't beg Dana for forgiveness; she manipulated you most of all... and you deserve better. So Anatasia wants lip filler? Or is she hinting at something else...? Well, well, well... Joey's true colours are finally coming out, and not going to lie... I believe him. Dana putting on a show that makes her look even more psychotic than she actually is. Dougie boy, do not sell out Vanessa and her business. The anvils dropping about Dana's future in Fairmont Crest keep coming out more and more. Months to build debt and one week to pay it off? Sounds about right to me. Notes: Karla Mosley (Dani) was right during the premiere week: Dani would be leveled out, and these last few episodes have showcased that. It's nice seeing Mosley showcase some good range and the capability of everyday range, as well. Jon Lindstrom (Joey) is showing what a capable actor he is; GH only barely tapped into that during the long-winded, dragged-out Kevin Chamberlain revisit. Ambyr Michelle (Eva) continues to be the undisputed standout amongst the cast. She's going places. Brandon Claybon (Martin) and Ben Gavin (Derek) continue to be standouts in the most needing of being recast, immediately. We've now got a second year under our belt, so now is the time to tweak the casting on both roles. Although Derek could easily be written out via a fire or emergency via his job.
    • Typo as I am referring to Dani alone.
    • She's jealous and resentful that Bill didnt fight for her the way Ted is for Nicole
    • Trisha makes it so hard to hate Leslie. Missy is just getting started to unravel. Can not wait.
    • CharacterS, plural. Who besides Dani are you speaking of here? Just curious. Of course, could be the s is a typo.
    • Very happy we got Mona's reactions yesterday and now Jan's today.  I'm so happy they aren't forgetting these minor characters.
    • Some of this is just YMMV. For example, I couldn't be more positive about Dani. I believe she has avid fans like me, people like you who do not appreciate her & probably most people in the middle for varying reasons. I see a lot of people liking her BUT feeling she is one step forward & then two back.  And, then I am not as enamored of Leslie/Dana/Sheila/Sherry/Anna/Etc. as some are.  I think it's a good thing that there's a variety of opinions on specific characters! I picture this Venn diagram of us where as a whole we REALLY LIKE THE SHOW but like soap fans we don't agree about specifics. OH! I had an amazing encounter yesterday - a soap opera fan who hates the show. Turned out she was as racist as could be. UGH.  Otherwise, I loved the reveal & last Thursday & yesterday. Specifically yesterday I loved Dani, Anita, Nicole &  Mona.
    • Now Vernon feeling bad for Eva too. The Dupree women will NOT be happy with the men in their family
    • Ambyr Michelle continues to win! That scene with Martin was good, and nice to see him be nice to her like that. I'm very curious who the guy is spying on everyone at Orphey's.
